[Well, Happy 2023 everyone and we might as well start the new year off with a fresh sandbox. In the 19dec22 Sandbox Mr scenes offered an intriguing suggestion (830am) in an attempt to eliminate the detritus of TDS and things gratuitously Trump from continually contaminating practically every other topic with yet another boring lap around the Trump barn. He suggested that RR add a Trump category and restrict posting of Trump-centric comments to that category. I envision it being structured like the Sandbox with dated, and perhaps even topical, labels so that the comment streams don’t become too long. I need to noodle on this and invite readers’ ideas about how it would work. gjr]

No one blames Bumblebrain for fifty years of porous borders and bad immigration policy. He only catches blame for supporting open borders under Obama, and most certainly for doing away with the Trump border controls when he became president. This changed illegal in-migration from a relative trickle to a tsunami that under his watch has invited in and dispatched into our hinterlands an historic 5 to 7 million foreign nationals who are overwhelmingly economic refugees from shithole countries. Included in the throngs are drug mules, human traffickers, terrorists of all stripes, and criminals galore. The hundreds of thousands of increased fentanyl overdose deaths of Americans under his watch are totally his responsibility, and caused by his illegal ignoring of the president’s constitutional national security duties. None of this is understood by our Left.

I remember this well. Punchy was staining his tee shirts over Trump’s taxes. The Slammer awaits. Finally got him now!
‘FLASHBACK: Everything The Media Said We’d Find in Trump’s Tax Returns’
“For the last six years, Donald Trump’s tax returns were a blank canvas onto which Democrats and their corporate media enablers painted every imaginable conspiracy theory: foreign influence-buying, money laundering, insurance fraud, securities fraud, tax fraud, and then some.
Those tax returns finally came out over the weekend of January 1 — and, having failed to find a smoking gun, the media have already completely dropped the story. Monday was the last day anyone on liberal cable (CNN and MSNBC) or broadcast (ABC, CBS, and NBC) networks even mentioned those tax returns.”

We have all heard this rhetoric from the usual sources. The below graph shows migrant encounters spiking recently, but not for the first time under Biden/Obama but for over 40 years.
The inflation hysteria, immigration hysteria and drug smuggling hysteria is just that – a narrative ginned up by the GOP to try to stir the pot and get people to the voting booths.
https://www.pewresearch.org/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/FT_21.11.01_MexicoBorder_1a.png?w=640
Fun fact, the USA is not the only destination for migrants, drugs, or inflation but right wing media likes to ignore those facts.
Refugees entering Ecuador (country of origin): 65,854 (Colombia) (refugees and asylum seekers) (2021); 513,900 (Venezuela) (economic and political crisis; includes Venezuelans who have claimed asylum, are recognized as refugees, or have received alternative legal stay) (2022)
As of September 2022, host governments report more than 7.1 million Venezuelan refugees and migrants worldwide.
Refugees entering Brazil (country of origin): 261,441 (Venezuela) (economic and political crisis; includes Venezuelans who have claimed asylum, are recognized as refugees, or received alternative legal stay) (2020)
Nicaragua trafficking profile: human traffickers exploit domestic and foreign victims in Nicaragua and Nicaraguans abroad; women, children, and migrants are most at risk; women and children are subject to sex trafficking within the country and its two Caribbean autonomous regions, as well as in other Central American countries, Mexico, Spain, and the United States; traffickers used social media to recruit victims with promises of high-paying jobs in restaurants, hotels, construction, and security outside of Nicaragua where they are subjected to sex or labor trafficking; traffickers exploit children through forced participation in illegal drug production and trafficking; children and persons with disabilities are subjected to forced begging; Nicaragua is also a destination for child sex tourists from the United States, Canada, and Western Europe.

Living up to your name, Liar?
BB, Natl Review and others have shown the mess from illegal immigration to Europe for years.
The idea that other countries have inflation is some kind of excuse for our inflation is absurd.
As if it were some kind of disease from outer space that can’t be helped. Our nation’s inflation has a observable reason and it could have been prevented.

“The inflation hysteria, immigration hysteria and drug smuggling hysteria”
What? Those aren’t real problems? Inflation at around 2% for 30 years, now topping 7.9%. You speak with the tone of someone living off of a trust fund. The reason those matter is because they actually touch peoples’ lives.
“Fun fact, the USA is not the only destination for migrants, drugs, or inflation but right wing media likes to ignore those facts.”
It’s rather hard to ignore the ruination of Europe but charity begins at home. France gets more amazingly vibrant every year.
Given that we live in the last years of hegemony, I’d say that US inflation is the Western world’s inflation. Hopefully the warmongers running the Biden administration get a real-deal hot war going with Russia before they really turn to China. It should help the arms manufacturers no end and maybe we’ll see the day when millions of fighting women find out what a ‘cat hole’ is.

Cereal 1239pm – Your cited Pew data does not hold your argument. First, most formerly counted “encounters” were denied entry and turned back to Mexico, they did not automatically become the catch&release illegals of today. Second, the presented data ends in 2020, the last year of Trump border controls that also denied entry to the overwhelming share of “encounters”. Before Biden, the estimated ‘gotaways’ represented the only large cohort that got in. Third, starting in 2021, the Border Patrol started known catch&release encounters, which for 2021 and 2022 came to more than 5 million, and at the same time their estimated number of gotaways exceeded 500,000 each year. Arguing that today’s border is business as usual over the last decades is ludicrous.

Liar 4:03 – “Hint: Biden is not on the list.”
The price of oil jumped as soon as Biden took office. Biden has done his level best to drive up the cost of energy. Biden has and continues to hand out billions the govt does not possess.
It didn’t start with Biden, but he’s doing his part to drive up inflation. The fed govt is constantly issuing new regs that drive up the cost of labor and goods.
Team Biden is most certainly the single biggest source of inflation in our country right now.
And his hand-picked team of financial morons are constantly misreading the obvious signs of what is wrong.
Remember that “transitory” inflation?
And Biden declaring our economy is “strong as hell” while the markets are sliding downhill faster than a sled on a snow covered hill.
There is a cause for our vastly inflated dollar. Too much paper money chasing too little things of value. Textbook.

More hogs at the dei cash bucket –
The University of Michigan will spend more than $18 million this academic year on salary and benefits for its diversity, equity, and inclusion staff, according to an analysis by economics professor emeritus Mark Perry.
That figure, which amounts to the cost of in-state tuition for 1,075 students, will be paid out to more than 142 staff during the 2022 to 2023 school year, according to Perry’s analysis of public data.
The university’s vice provost for equity and inclusion, Tabbye Chavous Sellers, is the highest-paid DEI staffer. Sellers, the wife of former DEI provost Robert Sellers, makes $380,000. Seventeen DEI staffers make more than $200,000 in total compensation, according to the data. Ninety-five staffers make more than $100,000 in total compensation.
The university’s DEI staff has seen rapid growth in recent years; in the 2018 and 2019 academic year the school employed just 82 DEI staffers, for a total cost of $10.6 million. The staff grew to 126 during the 2021 to 2022 school year at a total cost of $15.6 million.
“In my opinion, most colleges like UM are spending way too much money on DIE efforts, and it’s incredibly wasteful because those efforts are part of advancing the new DIE religion in higher education and directly contradict the core mission of a university — to educate students, teach critical thinking and expose them to intellectual diversity — in favor of pursuing misguided goals of social justice, racial justice, and gender justice,” Perry told the outlet.
He added: “Those misguided and expensive DIE resources could be better spent by reducing tuition instead of feeding new layers of costly administrative bloat that end up getting passed along to students in the form of higher tuition and fees.”
