A hit to free market capitalism, the most successful way of organizing a social order, that has provided the highest quality of life by lifting billions out of poverty and disease over the last two centuries, even when practiced imperfectly and without the awareness of most people who enjoy its blessings. And due to its magnificent history denied, today capitalism teeters on the brink of being abandoned by masses readily convinced of getting more free stuff and a better life under collectivism; all in spite of any supporting evidence. Everyone will vote, no exceptions. A hit to those of us who know that EVERYONE franchised to vote, will cast a vote whether they like it or not, and whether they know it or not. Every voter has two choices – vote your own preferences with a ballot, or don’t and vote for the other side. Since every unanswered vote actually does vote for the other side, your vote will count with or without your ballot. No qualified voter in a democracy can ever sit out an election. Whatever your choice, it will always impact for you or against you. And know that you have also voted in every bygone election, and you will vote again next Tuesday.
[2nov26 update] Why is SETI not involved in the terrestrial encounters with Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena (or UFOs) – see the post ‘We Are Not Alone’? As a member of the SETI community, I have often wondered about that, so I asked its leadership. Here is their official position regarding where they direct their investigations.
1. We work with publicly accessible raw sensor data of known provenance. We do not engage in the analysis of human-source reports or any data product that we cannot directly and concretely trace back to an open-platform instrument.
2. We do not focus on objects within the earth’s atmosphere. We also deliberately exclude all objects/sources that have positional properties consistent with human technology, i.e. transmitters having Doppler signatures consistent with common orbits of human-made artificial satellites.
