[Well, Happy 2023 everyone and we might as well start the new year off with a fresh sandbox. In the 19dec22 Sandbox Mr scenes offered an intriguing suggestion (830am) in an attempt to eliminate the detritus of TDS and things gratuitously Trump from continually contaminating practically every other topic with yet another boring lap around the Trump barn. He suggested that RR add a Trump category and restrict posting of Trump-centric comments to that category. I envision it being structured like the Sandbox with dated, and perhaps even topical, labels so that the comment streams don’t become too long. I need to noodle on this and invite readers’ ideas about how it would work. gjr]

Something about fish has stuck in Punchy’s caw. Well done, fish. Replacing TDS with FDS is a feat lesser men could not accomplish.
The old expression here is Nevada County: come on vacation, stay on probation. But fish has done one better. Come for the FUE, stay for the Former News Director. Hat tip, sir.
Why does not fish use his real name? Why, why, why? To the new reader, fish does not use his real name!! Bad Estonian Fox, bad scenes, bad L. Ron, bad Hunter’s Laptop, bad, bad, bad! And very bad psfish. Everyone must be like Punchy or else you have no credibility.
Only those who use their real full name should be allowed to comment here….says the control freak professional court jester Punchy. Dance for us Psul, dance!

Creepy grampa joe says all is well yet those pesky facts keep getting in the way –
As President Biden touts the state of the U.S. economy under his stewardship, a striking number of Americans with auto loans are struggling to make their monthly payments.
The juxtaposition between Biden’s rhetoric and the harsh economic realities for many people highlights what’s become a constant thorn in the president’s side: high inflation, which continues to eat away at household income, and public opinion disapproving of his handling of the economy.
Car loans are the latest sign of such economic problems. Indeed, loans delinquent by more than two months increased by 5.3% in December compared to the prior month and skyrocketed by 26.7% from a year ago, according to recently released data from Cox Automotive.
Of all December loans, 1.84% were severely delinquent (generally defined as more than 90 days behind on payments), marking an increase from 1.74% in November and the highest rate since February 2009, when the financial crisis crippled the the U.S. economy.

As I see it
During COVID, folks like me actually saved money. Holed up, stayed home, and checks keep coming from Uncle Trump and Uncle Gavin. Other folks got generous unemployment benefits. Except for small businesses, a bunch of people were banking money and spending less.
However, a big switch started happening during Biden’s time as President. People started to empty their savings, put more on the credit card, and got squeezed by inflation. Big time. Gas and food. Real inflation as measured like they used to do is probably 13%. Anyway, interest rates on everything from CC cards to adjustable rate mortgages, to rents to…..well, inflation ate up any gains in wages. Prices of used cars skyrocketed. Stuff the working stiffs need….food and cars to get to work for non-office workers who can’t work remotely.
Eggs are way up. Yes, a big avian flu wiped out millions of chickens, but even a chicken ranch of 275,000 hens that was not affected by the avian flu had their prices spike from everything from egg cartons, feed, diesel…everything to do with eggs.
Don’t look at 2020 stats. Things have changed dramatically in the last 18 months, exponentially if you prefer. Border crossings, inflation, oil and gas domestic production, crime, lower school scores, military preparedness….everything the Dems have touched in the last 18 months has gone to shit.
Eggs hitting 9 bucks a dozen on the East Coast and on their way to a buck an egg.
I am old enough to remember when eggs and toilet paper were so cheap we throw them at houses. :).

“Mr. McCarthy has gone to unusual lengths to defend Ms. Greene, even dispatching his general counsel to spend hours on the phone trying to cajole senior executives at Twitter to reactivate her personal account after she was banned last year for violating the platform’s coronavirus misinformation policy.”

Muskrat? Do you mean Elon Musk?
Are you some sort of child? Do you honestly think that Twitter favored the Republicans just as much as the Democrats? or does any sort of pro-Republican move negate the entire DNC-orientation of Twitter? Throw us a bone here.
As usual, we’re reading someone passing on an opinion from some crazy op-ed site. They haven’t read Taibbi’s substack, haven’t read his Tweets, haven’t read any of the leaked emails.
Naturally, the entire point of the uproar is missed.
The central issue in the matter is that the bureaucracy, currently leftist (including, oddly, the most hardcore pro-war people at this time) has been outsourcing censorship and control of speech. They’ve always done this to some extent, regardless of the niceties of that obsolete piece of paper, The Constitution, but the problem has metastasized due to media monopoly and the ability of computers to surveil and modify en masse.
Oh well. It’s always good to know what the cat ladies of Democratic Underground think on the matter from their armchairs. If they’re not working on new HOA rules, they’re writing ‘Other Voices’ columns.

“After an unusual delay, the Supreme Court finally issued its first opinion of the term on Monday: a unanimous decision in Arellano v. McDonough siding against disabled veterans who seek compensation for disabilities related to their service. Justice Amy Coney Barrett’s opinion for the court denied these veterans (and their survivors) the ability to obtain benefits retroactively if they filed a late claim—even if the delay occurred because of their disability, or some other factor beyond their control. It’s a painful blow to military members who were injured while serving their country, and a puzzling one: At oral arguments, the justices sounded divided, yet all three liberals lined up behind Barrett’s harsh opinion. Maybe they genuinely believed that Congress intended to impose an exceedingly stringent deadline on disabled veterans. Or perhaps the three-justice minority is so outnumbered that it has decided to pick its battles, and Arellano was not worth the fight.”

“DEMAND MANAGEMENT” IN BRITAIN
Shivering in the dark is what people did in ancient times and the medieval era. Until recently, it wasn’t something we expected in the developed world. So far, the shivering and darkness have been minimized because in a pinch, the U.K., like the U.S., burns coal and natural gas. But left-wing governments want that to stop:
“At the moment we fill the gaps with gas-generated power, but once that has been removed from the grid, as the Government intends to do by 2035, all we will have to save us from unplanned blackouts is demand management – which is really just blackouts through bribery.”

Naturally.
Manufacturing has largely moved overseas and ownership of small town and rural America has moved to the cities. Big box retail destroyed small retail, farms are owned by megacorps, ‘ranching’ is now a 100k cattle getting improper food stuffed down their gullet in feedlots.
People in cities own bits of paper that represent this ownership. Some of the money is metered back to the flyover folks. Admittedly, the South Bay is hell on wheels at writing surveillance advertising software which appears to have great value.
So, Bop Bop, tell us what you did or do that represents being on the positive side of the economic ledger.
Would I be proud of that as a Blue Urbanite? I sure as hell hope not.

Huh. That’s actually possible. I looked up the price of a kWh in the UK, current cost of diesel, winged the amount of power you get out of a generator. Kinda similar.
It’s worth bearing in mind that the desired end game is that everyone (minus the folks who run things) a)lives in an apartment and b)uses public transit.
With decent insulation and high enough density, maybe you could heat the apartment buildings with body heat. Treat the sewage between levels and all you need is a water tank on top of the building. We’ll all do ‘knowledge’ work. HR will stop by if you glare at the loud immigrants next door. It’ll be great.
As usual, it’s for the children.
