[Well, Happy 2023 everyone and we might as well start the new year off with a fresh sandbox.  In the 19dec22 Sandbox Mr scenes offered an intriguing suggestion (830am) in an attempt to eliminate the detritus of TDS and things gratuitously Trump from continually contaminating practically every other topic with yet another boring lap around the Trump barn.  He suggested that RR add a Trump category and restrict posting of Trump-centric comments to that category.  I envision it being structured like the Sandbox with dated, and perhaps even topical, labels so that the comment streams don’t become too long.  I need to noodle on this and invite readers’ ideas about how it would work.  gjr]

“Anti immigrant, anti feminism, anti globalism, and the belief that the left/ liberals are actively working to destroy American culture are shared characteristics of alt right and the alt lite, according to the Anti Defamation League.”
You can argue that feminism, globalism and immigrantism (xenophilia?) destroy American culture, so maybe it’s a fair cop. Perhaps that butcher’s bill was always due after the frontier disappeared and the move away from self-employment and self-sufficiency was largely complete.
I think the mistake is blaming some famous public figure or the other. Donald Trump and JFK are blood brothers in terms of nearly insane amounts of ambition combined with a lack of moral compass. Hillary would have been no better. These people come and go, the water closes over their head and they’ve been around since Ur.
I’d say that the big difference is a slower and more difficult to quantify one. I was watching a youtube video on objects held by the British Museum, almost always formerly owned by some wealthy family who fell on hard times (or the stuff was snagged via statute). Drinking vessels that went from being a prized possession in the drawing room to being one of 500 on a dark shelf somewhere.
The curators look almost identical to all of our local ‘non-profit’ employees, county employees, HR departments, the bureaucracy generally. Typically women in their 30s or 40s who are in charge, uniquely, of the great ship of state for this first time. Ownership of nice things follows power.
The thing is, you can expect the world to more reflect those peoples’ prejudices, fears, desires over time. If that has the side effect of destroying 5000 years of additive human culture, well that’s tough. These people only have the power you give them.

Strictly speaking, ‘leaching’ could make sense. It’s a kind of extraction after all.
I expect that homophones will disappear (is that true in linguistics? dunno), although we might well lose the use of ‘homo’ in any context except the most holy (wholely? holey?) one. Next up, Ms. Smith will switch to using lychee nut as ‘someone who leeches’.
regarding lawfare, at least that’s a thing with a time-honored tradition. Political opponents have always put each other in jail. I’ll suggest adding ‘pursefare’ (from Power of the Purse) for printing or seizing money from people and giving it to your special friends. Both seem antithetical to freedom but are a feature of most/all forms of government.
    Speaking of government. Book recommendation.

Gross ignorance. I remember my Dad livid that he was forced to sign up for Medicare. He just kept repeating, “forced, forced, they are FORCING me.” He did not need it, want it, but was forced to sign up for it. Given no choice. Fuck them.
So, they forced me to sign up for it as well when I turned 65. No choice. If the government forces me to sign on to a program I don’t want, then it is hardly sucking off the teat of socialized Medicare.
I go by the moral compass if you take the white man’s money, you sell them your soul. I really do not have any tolerance for the able bodied for take food stamps. I would rather starve than take food stamps. Able bodied is the operative word. For those who cannot work, perhaps some food stamps. But, for those who will not work, no food stamps or any aid.
But, that’s just me. I just refuse to throw in the towel and say I am incapable of getting by without The Great White Father in Washington’s gifts and trinkets…the White Man’s money. Feel free to sell them your soul, not me.

    Ugh…..poorly written on my part!
    First case….as the shitposter intended.
    leech
    1 of 3
    noun (1), ˈlēch, plural leeches
    Synonyms of leech
    1) [from its former use by physicians for bleeding patients] : any of numerous carnivorous or bloodsucking usually freshwater annelid worms (class Hirudinea) that have typically a flattened lanceolate segmented body with a sucker at each end
    2) a hanger-on who seeks advantage or gain, a celebrity surrounded by leeches who only want his money
    3) archaic: PHYSICIAN, SURGEON
    Second case….as the shitposter delivered.
    leach
    ˈlēch
    leached; leaching; leaches
    transitive verb
    1) to dissolve out by the action of a percolating liquid
    leach out alkali from ashes
    2) to subject to the action of percolating (see PERCOLATE sense 1a) liquid (such as water) in order to separate the soluble components
3a)to remove (nutritive or harmful elements) from soil by percolation (see PERCOLATE sense 1a)
soil leached of its salts by torrential rains
3b) to draw out or remove as if by percolation
all meaning has been leached from my life
….grumble….make me get all pedantic on a Sunday….!

    Tru dat –
Breitbart News Saturday host Matthew Boyle noted that former President Donald Trump, former Vice President Mike Pence, and President Joe Biden are all in controversy stemming from classified documents and asked Patel to break down the differences in each case.
The key difference is that in Trump’s case, he had the presidential authority to declassify the documents that were marked classified and found at Mar-a-Lago, Patel explained.
“When it comes to classified documents, there’s one person on planet Earth that is a universal arbiter of classification. That means they can declassify and classify at will, that is a sitting president of the United States. That is it,” Patel said. “Nobody else can do that, unless that power is delegated to them through the Office of Director of National Intelligence, and through the chain of command, from the White House. A vice president cannot do it.”
Patel accused Biden’s DOJ of creating a “two-tier system of justice” to try and “cover up” Biden’s classified document case, despite the raid on Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate. Patel urged House Republicans to subpoena documents from the FBI’s investigation into Biden’s classified documents “to show the world how bad and rotten the DOJ is.”
“And what we now know that this, they say the Biden investigation began in November, because a librarian said that the documents were overdue. I don’t believe that for one second,” Patel said. “This investigation began from Hunter Biden’s laptop, because they found classified information that he was using to shill and hawk documents to the Ukraine so he can get paid. That’s where it came. And that’s where the house must get the documents from the FBI to show the world how bad and rotten the DOJ is.”

I am ahead of the news cycle here, but I am going to come out and say it. It may not be proven for a couple of years:
Somebody flipped on Biden. Not leaked, flipped. You don’t send your personal lawyers to clean out an office. You have Joe the intern and other staff move stuff, if you are cleaning out a place. But, more importantly, the FBI knew (besides the Biden lawyers) where to look and they hit the other 3 places in succession. Boom, boom, boom.
It’s a flip. Maybe somebody is facing a couple of years and flipped for better terms. Maybe not. Time will tell. And what about those files that went from being stored in China Town then to the think tank……they have been lugged around.

Don’t get me wrong. Legally, nothing will happen to President Biden. Remember back in July, 2016. Poof! Gone.
Same thing with #Bidenfilegate. It’s not the legal jeopardy, it’s all about political damage to Sloppy Joe.
Remember, every Democrat on the planet was calling for Comey’s head from 2 weeks before the election to the day Trump via Sessions fired him.

This jumped out: “We’re entering a phase of disorder and hardship that is likely to moot the further depredations of a government at war with its people.” A government at war with its people. Then I relooked at the title and thought…..it’s what we have been saying, but not in those words.
    ‘The War Against Us’
“We now live in a nation where doctors destroy health, lawyers destroy justice, universities destroy knowledge, governments destroy freedom, the press destroys information, religion destroys morals, and our banks destroy our economy ” – Chris Hedges
Short and sweet. If I was looking for a bumpersticker slogan to encapsulate it all, then it would be, ‘A Government At War With Its People.’
    ————
Over a year ago I was a somebody’s house and the host played the movie Don’t Look Up for us after dinner. Perhaps because moi is NOT up on movies, I was left with a overwhelming thought that has stuck with me hence. With a meteorite coming to destroy the planet Earth, the real things that mattered is family and friends and their company. Clusterfuck hit that theme again after his short and sweet (clear, concise, and complete) link. Dr. Rebane’s recent closeness with the breath of Grim Reaper also brought that to mind. Thank you.
“ It’s no wonder that the collective ability for sense-making has failed. It will be quickly restored by each of us in the scramble to survive these disorders and hardships. The bewildering hypotheticals of recent years begin to dissolve like mist on the mountain and things come back into focus: your health, your daily bread, your shelter, your associations with other people close to you, your values, and most of all the power of your own choices. Nature, much insulted and maligned, will sort out the rest.”
Read a conservative site a couple weeks ago that said with all that’s going down the pike, we would be committing a dereliction of our duty (to family, friends, and ourselves)to not be growing our own food. Sure, that does not apply pragmatically to those in stack and pack housing pods, but it pricked my own conscience. “But, but, but what about water conservation?” Lol. A prudent man has a duty to….
The first movie made for HMO (Sometimes a Great Notion) wrestled with the ‘whole ball of wax” issue at the end. I rejected Henry’s premise at the time and asked like Lee Remick, “It’s there more?” Ah, to wax philosophical….

‘In blow to Biden DOJ, jury acquits pro-life activist of all charges’
Houck’s case attracted national attention for what his attorney described as an “obscene show of force” during his arrest, an incident that prompted accusations of political prosecution.
    https://justthenews.com/nation/crime/jury-acquits-pro-life-activist-whom-fbi-arrested-all-charges
Yes, the arrest was obscene. The FBI swat team raiding the house with fully automatic weapons and dragging him across the living room floor in front his sleeping kids upstairs (ordered downstairs) and wife who answered the door.
What has happened in the weaponization of the political DOJ is folks are now refused the option to turn themselves in and have arrangements made through their lawyer to have the subject peacefully surrender themselves rather than the door kickers bust in in full combat mode in front of their families and neighbors.
The local court had already dismissed the assault charge a year prior. The fight heated up with the pro-choicer got in his son’s face and started swearing at the pro-lifer and kid. The pro-lifer dad asked the man to not use that kind of language in front of his son.
Anyway….videos of the incident in 2021 did not show an assault.

There were 120 Tesla Model Y electric vehicles listed in two large salvage auction houses recently, and the “vast majority” had under 10,000 miles on them, according to a report from the Reuters news service.
The insurance companies that covered these vehicles decided that even with so few miles on them, these Teslas aren’t worth the $50,000 or so they sometimes cost to repair.
Reuters looked at recent salvage auction listings and found that the “vast majority” of the 120 Model Y vehicles listed had less than 10,000 miles on them. While these EVs originally cost between around $60,000 and $80,000, high repair costs will keep them off the road in the future, despite their low odometer readings.

They are just figuring that out! LOL –
A proposal from San Francisco’s reparations committee that would give $5 million each to longtime Black residents is unrealistic under the city’s current budget, according to city supervisors.
“I wish we had this kind of money in San Francisco’s general fund but if we want to maintain the services that exist today, we do not,” San Francisco Supervisor Hillary Ronen told the San Francisco Chronicle.
