    …..and in other news.

400 heavily armed officers in Uvalde waited in a hallway for an hour while a mass shooter gunned down 19 children.
A 22-year-old kid with a pistol in Indiana took down a mass shooter in 15 seconds.

Not even a good faker –
Far-left Rep. Alexandria Ocaso-Cortez (D-NY) on Tuesday seemingly pretended to be handcuffed after being escorted away during a pro-abortion protest outside of the Supreme Court, generating mockery across social media, as U.S. Capitol Police arrested over a dozen members of Congress.
A viral video shows an officer escorting the New York lawmaker away from the Supreme Court as a nearby woman shouted, “Abortion rights are under attack!” Ocasio-Cortez can be seen walking with her hands behind her back, creating the illusion of being handcuffed. She then raises a fist in the air, confirming the absence of handcuffs.
The stunt generated a wave of mockery across social media.
    “That’s because she’s a performer, not a Congresswoman…” one user wrote.
One called her a fraud, and another user observed, “Almost as good as her fake crying at that random fence in Arizona.”

The liar @ 754 is pretending my 535 does not exist so lets give the wispy haired geezer another chance for a little education. I see your salon and raise you a NYT –
You reap what you sow oh great ponytail of ignorance @ 511 LOL
The fact is it was the ACLU and activist psychs that systematically shut down the mental institutions across the country and you are parroting an urban legend –
The records show that the politicians were dogged by the image and financial problems posed by the state hospitals and that the scientific and medical establishment sold Congress and the state legislatures a quick fix for a complicated problem that was bought sight unseen.
    ‘They’ve Gone Far, Too Far’
In California, for example, the number of patients in state mental hospitals reached a peak of 37,500 in 1959 when Edmund G. Brown was Governor, fell to 22,000 when Ronald Reagan attained that office in 1967, and continued to decline under his administration and that of his successor, Edmund G. Brown Jr. The senior Mr. Brown now expresses regret about the way the policy started and ultimately evolved. ”They’ve gone far, too far, in letting people out,” he said in an interview.
Dr. Robert H. Felix, who was then director of the National Institute of Mental Health and a major figure in the shift to community centers, says now on reflection: ”Many of those patients who left the state hospitals never should have done so. We psychiatrists saw too much of the old snake pit, saw too many people who shouldn’t have been there and we overreacted. The result is not what we intended, and perhaps we didn’t ask the questions that should have been asked when developing a new concept, but psychiatrists are human, too, and we tried our damnedest.”
Dr. John A. Talbott, president of the American Psychiatric Association, said, ”The psychiatrists involved in the policy making at that time certainly oversold community treatment, and our credibility today is probably damaged because of it.” He said the policies ”were based partly on wishful thinking, partly on the enormousness of the problem and the lack of a silver bullet to resolve it, then as now.”

Why are there virtually no homeless people on the streets of Denmark and Ireland?
A major reason is both countries have psychiatric social workers on the streets much like police who spot people early on who have drug, alcohol or psychiatric problems and they immediately give them help and shelter. They do not let them become chronically homeless like we do here. They also give them shelter and good food and a healthy diet as well as counseling and medical help, They help them before they are too far gone like many of the homeless in our country. They also are given financial assistance and job training. You just don’t see homeless encampments in either country.

No Paul – that’s not the whole story. Just trying to post links doesn’t even start to answer pertinent questions.

Reagan was 50 years ago, Paul. Those people in the hospital then are pretty much all dead.

    So?
Who has run CA for decades?
    Dems.
Just do the tofu and salad greens for a few days and we’re good to go!
Nevada County is all blue – according to Paul.
So – why the homeless problem?
The Dems have run CA for quite a while and the homeless problem is just getting worse. Gavin said as mayor of SF, he would fix the homeless problem and it got worse.
Why doesn’t Paul articulate an explanation instead of posting links?
Why doesn’t Paul ‘circle back’ to his original position that it’s all Reagan’s fault and defend that position?
All I hear from Paul is “run to the next fall-back position”!

I have. On an ongoing basis.
When the Hospitality House was being re-vamped our local evil awful right wing Christian Churches jumped in to house overnight the homeless.
I never saw you there helping to feed and help them.
The help they really needed was so far beyond your simple minded left-wing fantasy-based BS printed by people that have never ever had to actually deal with these folks is so far off from reality it isn’t even funny.
A lot of these folks were off from the get go and most were beyond ever being truly viable assets to society. The help they need is complicated and extremely expensive.

You still haven’t offered one bit of advice as to what we should do today. We recently had a police shooting of a young woman who was having an emotional breakdown and they shot her because she had a knife in her hand. That didn’t have to happen and if we had a psychiatric social worker trained to handle that kind of situation it wouldn’t have happened. I have offered temporary housing for several Nevada City homeless through the years. Have you done that? Also I was involved with the original incarnation of Hospitality House when Utah Phillips was alive and produced several fundraisers to help get things off the ground.
