[DOGE was an effective but short-lived effort to identify and recommend federal bureaucracies and programs that were wasteful, abusive, and/or fraudulent.  While its dollar savings are in dispute, it did motivate the reduction of the federal workforce by about 300,000 employees.  A good way to identify waste, fraud, and abuse in government is to motivate federal workers to report such practices since they are the daily ‘boots on the ground’ who witness/practice what’s not good.  IBM had a program for years in which it gave employees sizeable bonuses for identifying bad processes and suggesting new/better ones.  It saved the company millions, but required a dedicated accounting department to coordinate the overall program and assess the dollar worth of the suggested savings/benefits.  Other companies have similarly rewarded programs for employees to identify inefficiencies.  Could the feds do something similar?  gjr]
