[‘Making English Our National Language Is One Step Toward A More Unified Country’ is a true statement, and long overdue. I grew up in a bilingual environment, speaking only Estonian at home with my parents. But we all recognized the importance of speaking English as one of the main bonds unifying us as Americans with everyone else in the country. gjr]

It would be interesting to track the organization behind all of this. Obviously there’s a ‘Town Hall’ effort going on right now, it reminds me of how people connected to political parties seem to have regular letters-to-the-editor with the message of the day.
I’d be interested some day in really understanding right wing public demonstrations as they’re largely non-existent in the US. Of course, European ‘right’ and US ‘right’ are different beasts. The first loves uniforms, the second wants to be left alone on the family ranch.
The US Left appears to be fueled by good-boy points, mobs built on top of upvotes and praise from within the group. I wonder if a Nazi operated that way? Probably. Scrabbling for acceptance is a strange thing. The whole point of shouting with signs is group solidarity, not convincing others.

About that gutting of medicaid, no more free ride for able bodied lazy folks –
One of the biggest problems in Medicaid is that its expansion under Obamacare to include all adults below a certain income threshold corrupted state priorities. In the 41 states that have expanded Medicaid, the federal government pays for 90 percent of the costs for the expansion population, including a new class of able-bodied adults who mostly don’t work. By contrast, the federal government only covers an average of 57 percent of costs for traditional Medicaid recipients, such as seniors, children, and people with disabilities.
The result is a perverse incentive for states to cut services for the truly needy. As Medicaid spending has taken over state budgets, governors and state lawmakers have looked for ways to control costs. In Medicaid expansion states, there’s little appetite to cut spending on able-bodied adults who bring in $9 in federal money for every $1 the state spends. Instead, states look to cut spending on the vulnerable, who bring in as little as $1 in federal funding for every $1 in state outlays. The fiscal logic is as clear as it is awful: Who cares about the needy if they aren’t making the state money?

Voters in more than half of the constituencies in the UK would prefer Reform UK leader Nigel Farage as prime minister over Labour PM Sir Kier Starmer, a poll has found.
A survey conducted by JL Partners on behalf of the Adam Smith Institute has found that citizens in 335 constituencies would support Nigel Farage as the next prime minister of the UK, compared to 291 for incumbent Starmer.
In a further blow to the governing leftist party, the poll found that ten per cent of voters who backed Labour in last year’s general election are now considering voting for Farage’s Reform party, GB News reports.
Perhaps most concerningly for Labour, which faces a tough battle from Reform in the upcoming local elections in May, the survey found that Farage is leading Starmer in multiple key battleground constituencies.
Commenting on the findings, JL Partners co-founder Tum Lubbock said: “Keir Starmer is in a race for popularity with Nigel Farage, and at the moment, this data shows that Nigel Farage is the preferred choice for Prime Minister in more than half of constituencies vs the Prime Minister.
“That extends to 1 in 10 of those who actually voted Labour last year who now say that Nigel Farage would be a better PM than the man who actually holds that office – Keir Starmer.”

The article sort of confuses me. It isn’t like a 17 year old female has any interest, beyond monetary, in a 40 year old man. They’re too smelly and wrinkledly (although less than the posters here), but what is the age of consent in Minnesota? I would guess 16. And they still dont know why they lost so badly, willful ignorance? –
With an estimated 1.9 million illegal immigrants and $9.5 billion spent by Medi-Cal on their healthcare, the state is spending approximately $5,000 per illegal immigrant on healthcare this year.
The average illegal immigrant in California earns $13 per hour, often in untaxed cash, or $27,040 per year if working 40 hours a week. If taxed, this wage would produce $464 in state income taxes. Assuming 30% of remaining income goes to rent and the rest goes to sales-tax qualified spending, that’s another $1,372 in state sales taxes.
This means a working illegal immigrant may contribute approximately $1,846 per year in state taxes — well short of the $5,000 spent by Medi-Cal, let alone other services such as CalFresh, the state’s food assistance program, and other benefits they may claim on behalf of their children born in the United States.

There’s quite a range of net negative value to illegal aliens, depends on the source, but there’s always that 2% or so of them that work in big agriculture. So much for Cesar Chavez, the push to lower wages defeated him in the long run.
My favorite part about the argument is all the whoppers told about how ‘THE BIDEN ADMINISTRATION IS ENFORCING IMMIGRATION LAW’ or ‘IT’S AN IMPOSSIBLE PROBLEM’…the second that Trump started actually deporting people the truth became obvious, Democrats never had an intention of slowing or reversing the people pouring in from the 3rd world. The less related to you that people are, the more important they are. Suicidal empathy is a thing.
Thinking about how Team Blue wants to save the world by importing it, was that always true? Have people changed or did already-present absurdly empathetic people move into positions of power. Maybe it’s related to the metastasizing of useless government/megacorp girl jobs in the last few decades.
