[So now outfits that collect and search internet content want to start charging AI companies that make chatbots for the data they use to train their LLMs. Companies like Google and Amazon get this data for ‘free’ – actually, what it costs them to scrape it from the web – as it is provided also for free by billions of online consumers. The conundrum is that the very large data repositories don’t want to drive away the AI-based search engines by making their training datasets too expensive. Until now the whole purpose of those freely accessible datasets has been to have third-party search results point to the data that the Googles and Amazons make available. And since it costs tens of millions of dollars in power and processing time to make a functioning LLM, everyone involved already has skin in the game. If it ain’t broke, … . gjr]

Looks like the bank records and inflation are kicking creepy grampa joes ass –
An ABC News/Washington Post poll released Sunday found that 63% of American adults do not think Biden, 80, has the “mental sharpness” it takes to serve effectively as president, compared to only 32% who believe he does and 5% who have no opinion. The number shot up nine percentage points since the same poll was conducted a year ago when 54% said he didn’t have the mental capacity for the job.
Respondents were asked the same questions about former President Donald Trump, 76, who is the current front-runner in the GOP presidential primary. Fifty-four percent said he does have the mental sharpness, compared to Biden’s 32%, and 64% said he has the physical health to serve as president, compared to Biden’s 33%.
Biden’s job approval rating also hit a new low at 36%, down six points since the same poll was conducted in February, compared to 56% of respondents who disapprove of Biden’s performance so far.
The majority of Americans also think Trump did a better job at handling the economy than Biden, with 54% supporting Trump’s performance compared to only 36% who think Biden is doing a better job.
The poll comes nearly two weeks after Biden announced in a video that he and Vice President Harris would seek re-election.

”Expect this story to saturate the media for a couple more days, but it will evaporate for obvious political reasons. It’s not a white guy, so the Left and their propaganda machine, which is allergic to reporting on crimes, which nonwhite individuals commit, will turn off for the time being. It will meet the same fate as the Texas family wiped out by Francisco Oropesa, an illegal alien who decided to kill his neighbors. And yes, Mr. Oropesa was known to immigration enforcement, being deported numerous times. Oropesa killed five people, including a nine-year-old, but that story, like this Allen shooting, will soon vanish. If it doesn’t fit the narrative or can’t be used to attack Republicans, it goes away. It’s not right, but that’s how liberal newsrooms operate.”

fish 2:34 – “…but it will evaporate for obvious political reasons.”
Well – not without the usual blather about “common sense” gun control.
From the Dallas Morning News:
“How many people might be alive today if that shooter had not been able to obtain that rifle, or that magazine, or the caliber of rounds loaded in it? We don’t know whether the shooter obtained the weapon legally or not. It doesn’t matter because there are so many guns all around, and they are so loosely controlled, that anyone with intent and money can get one with no trouble at all.
This has to stop.”
Of course the pearl clutchers that hammered out that nonsense have absolutely no concrete steps to offer to the governor. None. Just “do something”!!!
Gotta love how they admit they don’t even know the facts yet, but – “it doesn’t matter”.
Care to guess how many hundreds of lives would be saved every year if our fed govt just turned away all the illegals at the border and told them they would never, ever, become legal citizens? And they would never get all the free goodies they hand out to the illegals that are here? We can easily do something about that, but it’s not in the political or financial interests of a lot of politicos to actually seal the border.
We could, of course, wait to ascertain all the relevant facts of the case at hand and decide our course of action. But saving peoples’ lives isn’t the actual point.
The main point is to disarm the American law-abiding public. And we know why.

OK you Californians – pony up!
“On Saturday, a California reparations task force approved a package that, if passed by the legislature, would cost $800 billion, or nearly three times the state’s annual budget.”
They were authorized to arrive at an amount and they did.
I can remember it like it was just last year when Pretty Boy Newsom was bragging about the huge surplus and how he welcomed illegals to come to CA and how he was gonna spend millions to take care of the homeless problem…
Has anyone even started to consider the billions just to try to sort out who would be eligible for the dough? I’m sure there’s folks right now planning to set up a “Reparations Recovery Help Center”. Are you or some one you know “Black”? Operators are standing by – call the number on your screen – will cost you nothing if we don’t get you the millions you are owed!!
Of course the state govt will have to set up a Reparations Agency and start hiring hundreds of staff and not a few lawyers and ‘equity outcome experts’. They don’t come cheap! And all the satellite offices in the major cities and armed guards to try to maintain order. The only joy the Republicans in the legislature will have now is sitting back and watching the carnage. The absolute joy of seeing the hispanic Dems brawling with the white lefty Dems over the mess they’ve created.
What? You didn’t think this would stop at just one group of POCs getting in on the grift? The screenwriters from the 30’s that wrote the screwball comedies would have killed to get the go ahead to make the movie about this.
https://www.powerlineblog.com/archives/2023/05/ca-reparations-committee-approves-recommendations-costing-nearly-3x-states-annual-budget.php
Of course maybe the state govt will just say “sorry – we’re broke and you don’t get anything”.
Oh boy! Film at eleven!

Good morning fish. I noticed those stories as well, but here’s a good one:
“Calls for short sale ban grow as regional bank stocks wobble”
https://www.morningstar.com/news/marketwatch/20230508267/calls-for-short-sale-ban-grow-as-regional-bank-stocks-wobble
“Market ‘manipulation’ could threaten the banking system, analysts say…”
Yeah, you private investors – market manipulation is the government’s job!
I remember Obama decrying those who would “bet against America”. It’s called bad news you don’t want to hear, so ban it. From the article:
“A short sale is a way for investors to bet that a stock will decline in price.”
Pro tip – maybe it’s not a bet – maybe they know something you don’t want the public to know. Large short sales don’t cause the banks to fail – they’re a result of a failing bank. Yellen has already stated the smaller banks won’t be bailed out. And if those banks are trying to make money with a portfolio of low interest loans and have to pay high interest to keep depositors happy – how long do they last?

Yeah…..it’s always “market manipulation” when the “majors” start to take losses and they always want to ban short selling when they start to feel “tremors”.

New this Fall. On Patrol Citizens: Live
To be fair, about a dozen minutes of police shows will show you that an awful lot of so-called ‘urban’ policing is fishing expeditions. The thing is that the youths and teens almost always seem to have drugs, open containers, and/or stolen guns in the car.
It seems to me that if they want to encourage equity in policing, the answer is to make drugs, stolen weapons, speeding, shoplifting, police chases, and the occasional liquor store robbery all completely legal. It would certainly lessen the burden on courts.
Where we are really likely to turn out is universal surveillance. The car keeps an eye on you, traffic cams everywhere, plus the ability to remotely shutdown a car. In a utopia, we’ll end up with the left wing vision of stacking everyone in urban apartments using public transportation. The electricity will be on on alternate days, heat supplied by human bodies in a highly insulated environment. It’s for the children.
I see that Scott Adams has swung around to my own viewpoint in his video missive a couple of days ago. His notion is that we are surrounded by zombies, a zombie apocalypse. Mental health zombies. Screen-addicted zombies. Drug-addicted zombies. The zombies have already conquered some downtown areas, we have no solutions. Answer: get away. If you have zombies, change location. I’ll bet he announces a move to the Mountain West at some point. He certainly doesn’t want to live next to the Nevada Theater or parts of Brunswick Basin.

Honestly I’m not sure. It’s like the plans for reparations because…reasons.
Perhaps a quick DNA check, although it’s hard to tell slavers from slaves. I just read a story about a John Hawkins trip to Africa to grab some slaves as the local dealers were mad at the English. He cut a deal with some petty chieftain to raid the village next door for people. After the raid there was mayhem because Village A then decided to cut up and eat Village B. Do you really want to give people of Village A descent a packet of money? I would think not.
No doubt sociologists of the future, probably writing in Mandarin, will discuss the natural results of an in-group flipping on it’s head and becoming xenophiles. All of the still-existing in-groups are bound to take advantage of the situation since it’s baked into the cake of humanity.

Will Biden be allowed out of the White House basement to read teleprompters written by crazy 30 year-old staff members? Will Bernie and Senator Karen have already been paid-off to boost President Potato? Will the most charisma-filled Democrat, John Fetterman, get Kamala’s job? Can Biden go to war with Russia and China at the same time to keep his gig? These are questions.
I’d say that God gave us Trump to push back the Forces of Evil, but this is only an opportunity, not a guarantee of success.

This morn’s Union had lots of those words as the County discussed a ‘comprehensive plan to address homelessness’ since they’ve ‘adopted homelessness as a key policy priority’ and will unveil a ‘homeless initiative’ which defines ‘clear responsibilities, resources, and flexibility for all levels of government’. ‘Data will be used to more effectively assess the needs of the community blah blah blah’ with words about streamlining by one Ms. Hall. Ms. Hoek is ‘glad we all have a seat at the table’.
lol. Sweet. Nothing much will change but a bit of bureaucratic cruft will be generated, probably involving ‘stakeholders’ and ‘leverage’ and ‘game changing’. Modern life seems to consist of machines converting money to entropy.

Also voted for Nader in ’96.
Ah Nader the real “biggest political loser in American history”….yeah….Harold Stassen was getting kinda long in the tooth by then and Pat Psulson was dead!
Nader huh…! Well I retract my earlier assertions regarding the Clintons….lord knows you’ve suffered enough!
Nader……?

I voted Libertarian.
Why would you do that….you don’t have a “libertarian” bone in your body?

I’m a Green Libertarian fishmouth. We already went through that. I guess you have a short memory. Sorry about that. Perhaps that’s why you don’t use your real name.
