[The genesis of our wildfires. Here’s a topic everyone is afraid of discussing. Almost all of our wildfires are manmade – they are started by indigents, crazies, and people with a political agenda. The fires started by accidents and natural causes are well-known, few and far in between. However, our politicians, liberal activists, and media of all hues treat western wildfires as if they were ‘acts of God’, and therefore their genesis need not be questioned, let alone examined, any further. Given the number of annual wildfires, notice how rare is there any subsequent mention of arson investigations or what these may have discovered. It seems that the ‘vulnerable underprivileged’ have a natural right to start fires and then be left alone. And it is not a stretch to imagine the damage anti-American terrorists can do in a free country by simply setting wildfires with easily fabricated, time-delayed pyrotechnic devices. But from what the public sees, our authorities neither suspect nor pursue such errant behavior – the fires just magically flare up and cause totally acceptable devastation. gjr]

Found some interesting facts in my travels.
“The United States has more violent crime than the rest of the Western world, including homicide. There are a lot of reasons for that (violent crime is a complex phenomenon) but mere access to guns by law abiding citizens is not necessarily one of them.
Russia forbids ownership of handguns completely, and their murder rate is double that of ours. Brazil is restrictive, and their homicide rate is six times that of ours.
One of the safest countries in the world in terms of homicide rates is the Czech Republic, and they have a national shall-issue policy. It’s also the home of CZ, and darned if those aren’t some of the best handguns there are.
If you look at the 10 least-violent states in terms of violent crime per 100,000 residents, 6 out of 10 of them are constitutional carry states. Only 1 out of 10 is a restrictive may-issue state, and Rhode Island, well, Rhode Island is complicated as far as carry permits go.
Clearly, handgun policy has minimal – if any – influence on crime rates. So his assessment that somehow the ability of Americans to purchase and carry a handgun, permit or no, is clearly ignorant in the extreme.
Next, we have mass shootings.
How the hell do you define mass shootings? Because if you exclude gang-related shootings where four or more people are shot only a few happen per year.”

A reader responded to my post about the shunning of Joe Biden by family members of troops who died at Kabul airport with this trenchant message:
The heartbreaking ritual at Dover AFB, too often repeated, is inherently theatrical. It fixes our national attention, ignites the glare of media coverage. Every word and gesture is pregnant with emotion and meaning.
We know this very well. And our leaders know it, or should. Their minions and keepers certainly do.
And yet…Biden? He was at his considerable worst.
Bad enough that these people died, and would not have died but for his impulsive self-pleasing idiocy; but for him to lecture their families about his loss, and to show impatience if they wanted instead to talk of their loss, as their own flesh and blood was borne out of the aircraft by an honor guard? To keep peeking at his watch, as if he were late for some more pressing or pleasing matter?
It’s such a terrible script. Nobody in theater would ever write it or produce it. Yet it’s the best that Biden can give us, and it’s not theater at all, it’s entirely real.
We’re watching a shell of a man; and he’s coming apart. His senility reinforces his lifelong stupidity. Both feed his angry defensiveness — typical of dementia patients. And in turn the anger feeds more stupidity. I expect this process will continue and accelerate.
