Narrative buzzkill: “All Mr. Bolton reportedly adds is news of a conversation in which Mr. Trump made a direct connection between the two that nearly everyone already assumed. This still isn’t close to a high crime or misdemeanor.” —The Wall Street Journal

Non compos mentis: “Let’s be clear: Transgender equality is the civil rights issue of our time. There is no room for compromise when it comes to basic human rights.” —Joe Biden
A blast from the past I: “There are many very patriotic Americans who are engaged in the intelligence community. For years, decades now, I have saluted their service. Wherever the decision is, whether it’s from the administration, as was the case in the Bush administration, to withhold information from Congress, I fought that. But you don’t fight it without a price because they come after you. And they don’t always tell the truth about it.” —Nancy Pelosi in 2014

Not to be too literal, but Jesus, if he existed, was a 1st C. Judaean Jew. He and Bernie would essentially have nothing in common at all, not even religious practices.
cross-road (Paul?): “…why no more witnesses or documents are needed are?”
Well, because they don’t have to be. The Senate can do as it likes. Anyone who thinks this whole event isn’t purely political needs to take a Midol and lie down.

That fad burned out fast, why pay more for something that’s not actually healthier but fits the woke narrative –
We may offer plant-based alternatives again in the future, but we have removed it from the menu for now,” said a spokeswoman for Tim Hortons.
The fast-food restaurant chain had introduced the plant-based protein as a limited time offer, the spokeswoman said, adding that: “the product was not embraced by our guests as we thought it would be.”
Responding to the removal of its products, Beyond Meat said that it may work with Tim Hortons again in the future.
Tim Hortons said in July it was expanding plant-based meat additions in nearly 4,000 restaurants. There are about 4,800 Tim Hortons restaurants in North America.
Tim Hortons launched breakfast sandwiches with the plant-based sausage patty in June and the plant-based burger patty in July.

Someone lead the pony tail of ignorance to his fainting couch after another dem big push to turn Texas blue was not even close bigger win than Trumps in that district, 58 – 42 sweet –
AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — Republicans won handily a closely watched special election Tuesday to keep hold of a suburban Houston district that President Donald Trump won easily four years ago, fending off a national blitz by Democrats in a Texas legislative race.
The victory by Republican Gary Gates, who put more than $1.5 million of his own money into his run for state House District 28, is sure to bring a sigh of relief for the GOP in a race that was being tracked far beyond Texas. By the final weeks, the race had escalated into the first big special election of 2020.
In final unofficial results, Gates polled 58% of the vote to 42% for Democrat Eliz Markowitz.
Presidential candidates Joe Biden and Elizabeth Warren had endorsed Markowitz, and outside groups flooded the race with six-figure checks and television ads. Beto O’Rourke practically made the district a second home after ending his own presidential campaign in November, spending weekends knocking on doors in Katy’s affluent neighborhoods.
It escalated a normally minor local election into a high-stakes test of Democrats’ chances in Texas this November, and whether suburban voters are turning away from the party of an impeached president.

Election 2020.
While I do not join the bandwagon that Iowa and NH are imperative to have a great showing to win the Dem nomination (as juxtaposed against South Carolina and Super Tuesday), I found a couple of items interesting and confirmed my beliefs.
1) “The changing fortunes of the leading candidates underscores the volatile nature of the primary after more than a year of campaigning, as voters wrestle with which candidate can defeat President Trump. Despite the ascent of Mr. Sanders, a self-described democratic socialist, the poll also highlighted the combined appeal of the centrists: 55 percent of those surveyed said they preferred a standard-bearer who is “more moderate than most Democrats.” Just 38 percent said they wanted one who is “more liberal than most Democrats.”
2) Ms. Klobuchar’s supporters could play the most crucial role, though, should she fail to achieve 15 percent in most precincts. When voters were asked whom they would support if they were left with only four choices — Mr. Sanders, Mr. Buttigieg, Mr. Biden and Ms. Warren — Mr. Biden was the overwhelming favorite of Ms. Klobuchar’s backers. He received 55 percent of them in this scenario while Ms. Warren received 18 percent.
Hmmm. 55% of Amy’s supporters would jump to Biden, eh?
https://www.nytimes.com/2020/01/25/us/politics/democratic-iowa-poll-sanders.html
Guess that means if Amy falters, I will put Steve and Punch in the Biden camp.

Interesting point. As I read that, the Democratic candidate (regardless of identity) will be backed into a corner on all these matters. No mere handwaving about centrist immigration policy, but open borders. No middle of the road platitudes about gun control, but round up them military style assault machine rifles. Yay abortion!!
It isn’t Trump that’ll force an uncomfortable stance (or no stance and pretend it doesn’t exist), but their own constituents. When all those crazy people are your people, you are riding the tiger. Trump sez what regular schmoes want to hear, the (D) candidate has to please their most radical members or there’ll be hell to pay.

To Keach and Paul and all the other dim bulbs on this thread, the T-Rex (no elephants) in the room is that money is fungible.
What that means is that Ukraine, absent Uncle Joe’s billion, has neither means nor incentive to employ the fruit of his loins in any capacity whatever.
Ergo, his mil/yr came from the US taxpayer. Once that sinks in, perhaps you’ll have a clearer view of what is being discussed here.

Chicago corn futures were a bright spot Tuesday in crop markets hit by fears over the spreading coronavirus in China. Futures for March were up 1.3% at $3.855 a bushel.
“There is no one on this side of the globe offering corn for less,” said John Payne, a senior broker at Daniels Trading.

‘’’What that means is that Ukraine, absent Uncle Joe’s billion, has neither means nor incentive to employ the fruit of his loins in any capacity whatever.’’’
It looks like old uncle ‘’’L’’’ is saying that Burisma is a government entity.

comma-man : “It looks like old uncle ‘’’L’’’ is saying that Burisma is a government entity.”
Given the location, that’s probably a fair assumption, although the relationship probably works in the opposite direction.

article from a few years back, but from a quick search the oligarchs’ influence hasn’t changed much. View this as educational rather than as trying to prove a point.

Places like Ukraine are complicated, and there’s no point in anyone here pretending that they understand .0001% of it.
I’m still not sure why an argument between the Russian Federation and Ukraine is the US’s business to the degree it has been made. It’s as if the USSR backed electoral politics and sold missiles to an anti-US Canada.

Every piece of hardware or aid the US government has ever given to a foreign government that has directly or indirectly resulted in a death makes us murderers according to the rule of fungability…
A Peace Corp worker who gave some rice to a villager who then traded that rice for drugs means the US supports drug dealers..ad absurdum…

There are two events I consider game changers for Trump and the Deplorables during the last two years.
1) Trump address at CPAC when he said that when Hayden Williams was beat up on the Berkeley campus, Hayden took a punch for all of us.
2) The latest March of Life rally. Trump’s address to the assembled was an inspiring speech, no matter your views on this divisive topic. Their voices finally got heard. I can’t believe how young and friendly and positive the women and men were. All smiles, left no trash nor shouting of vulgarities. An attractant rather than a repellant. The middle of the roaders and pro-live Democrats have no welcome mat in the big tent of the Democrat Party. Not welcomed in the Democrat Party.

If their last name wasn’t Biden (or Bush or Clinton), I’m afraid that the Impregnator of Strippers wouldn’t have gotten the gig.
I’m afraid it’s a case where Whataboutism doesn’t really fly. Maybe it’s that you need to be both greedy and powerful to take advantage of corruption, especially in sketchy countries. Greedy/powerful people are interesting, ergo you ‘give a hoot’.
Personally, there’s no point in legal action against either Creepy Dad or Creepy Son, and perhaps no basis. But, it’s certainly worthwhile to know about if you are thinking about voting for Hunter’s father.
Not to say that Trump wasn’t corrupt in his own way, although involuntary ‘donations’ to big city Democrats has to get disheartening over time.
