[Well, does Mueller have anything on Trump and the Russians, or are he and his boys just continuing to manufacture crimes so that in the end they can point to some accomplishments, while hoping to distract all from the charter that gave rise to their commission?  Sure would like to see what he would have escrowed when I first suggested it.  gjr]

Talk about an overachieving fakenewsman, not just a lying sack but a rip off artist too. Makes the pony tail of ignorance look like a piker.
Claas Relotius, 33, resigned this month after admitting to making up stories and inventing protagonists in more than a dozen articles in the magazine’s print and online editions.
Spiegel said it now had information that Relotius allegedly launched a campaign for readers to give money to help subjects of an article he wrote but that the bank details he gave directed the funds to his own account.
“Der Spiegel will give all the information it collects to public prosecutors as part of a criminal complaint,” it said on its website.

This is a continuation of Geprges offering about “makers and takers”
    Walt, Don
Were the instigators of the war in Iraq that took over 5000 American lives and 50,000 Iraq lives givers or takers as well as 5 trillion American taxpayers dollars “makers and takers”?
Keep in mind that even your hero Trump believed the reasons for the war were fake.

    BillT: “Dick Cheney and Hal:
The only objection I raise is the punch drunk one’s constant reference or insinuation to 38 billion and profit as if Halliburton profited the 38 billion…. or is it 39 billion? Gross revenue (sales) does not equate to net profit, usually not even close.”
While I think the war was a waste of lives and money, the Halliburton payment seems like dollars well spent assuming you feel the need to nation build in a place filled with glue-sniffing civet cats (h/t to PJ O’Rourke). Unless you want to temporarily fill the Army with cooks, truck drivers, file clerks, going to private industry seems like a smart move. It’s hard to make a dollar in places like that. I’d be surprised if the net profit was more than 5%-10% and could easily have been negative in a lot of circumstances.
There are always a lot of fibs in a war, this one seems to consist of.
    1) It’s a good idea to invade Iraq.
    2) The US can civilize them in nothing flat.
    3) Cheney did it to get rich.
    4) Halliburton made billions and billions of profit by selling Fritos and Coke to the troops.
    5) The US needs to import millions of people from that area because….DIVERSITY! That bastard Trump hates the Religion of Peace!
From your own comfy chair, it’s certainly easy to come up with plans that didn’t involve so much US money/deaths/injuries. Whether they work or not would require better predictive abilities than I have.
Heck, you’d think that the Blue Mob would be happy to have a President that is less likely to go fight other countries than Bill’s Gal would have been. It seems like you can’t please anybody.

Profit aside scenes, I already conceded that, there seems to be no contention that they received 39 billion in taxpayers money.
Why else would Cheney support it scenes? Out of patriotism? Tell that to the families of the 5000.

GeorgeR: “on little ol’ RR we are a daily witness to the national progressive perspective on all things considered.”
Well, it is a little complicated. Active help in the overthrow of Libya = Good (because Hillary). Invasion of Iraq = Bad (because Bush). Invasion of Syria = Good (because Obama). Bush drones bad, Obama drones good.
My take is that it has nothing to do with the value of war, but simply reflects an emotional tie to an individual or other policy concept.
The tricky thing is to dig deep enough to see what the driving force really is. Traditional America has it’s own faults and you can see foreign adventures that sprang from a combination of flag waving and Chamber of Commerce Republicans making a buck, but the Left has more subtle prime movers I think.
Building an intellectual base atop a history made up of the holocaust, smallpox blankets, slavery, and the new fascination with 57 genders and DIVERSITY! looks kind of hard. It makes for a lot of handwaving and little rigor.

Well, it wasn’t to get rich so far as I can tell. I doubt that contractors even came up as a planning problem at DoD until they discovered that their force projection didn’t include logistics. (oops).
The War Party is a mysterious thing. My best guess is that if you hang out in meeting rooms in Maryland and DC you can get a pretty skewed concept of what is reasonable. Panic quickly ensues and orders are given. The public demands somebody’s head on a platter and there’s always that small chance that the Arabs managed to build the Mother of All Bombs out of goats and Mercedes limousines.
There are plenty of in-person narratives on the matter. Here’s one history…

Looking back, I’d say that the war was pretty well run as such things go, but the postwar period was a dog’s breakfast.

Bump stock ban is illegal/unconstitutional. While most, including the NRA and moi, go along with banning the cosmetic attachment and throwing the unhinged a bone, there is a problem with the ban that needs to be addressed. The law clearly defines what an automatic weapon (machine gun) is. Has a legal definition. One pull of the trigger for multiple rounds fired. One and only one touch on the trigger. Conversely, a plastic bump stock slides across so that your trigger finger can fire multiple times on the trigger in a more rapidl secession with each pull of the trigger firing one round.
The ATF cannot unilaterally change the definition of a machine gun as the law passed by Congress defines. Thus, unconstitutional.
The slippery slope being if any department of government can rewrite definitions, then how long until they declare semi-autos (like AR-15 or standard issue side arms like the cops use) as a “machine gun”. You know that slippery slope. The Left wants common sense gun control and I want common sense border security. :)o

I bet Paul believes GM was money well spent. His boy “O” “saved” it.
We lost more “saving” GM than it would to build the wall.

Welcome to the here and now Paul.
“According to a 2014 Special Inspector General report, American taxpayers took an $11.2 billion loss on its bailout of General Motors (GM). After the automaker declared bankruptcy in 2009, the government invested $49.5 billion in the company with a 61 percent equity share. Overtime, GM’s stock price dropped, and despite selling back shares, the U.S. government took billion dollar losses.”
