It’s a useless exercise of course, but self-interest in voting is interesting to think about.
Given that the Prime Directive for most elected officials is re-election, you can argue that they always vote with their own interests in mind.
There’s just so many example of sketchy voting through the years People talk about Mad Maxine’s OneUnited bank scam, but the serious money is bound to be found in a man like Robert Byrd. Congress runs on money, so a certain amount of it is bound to stick to peoples hands.
If you want to lessen corruption in government, make the government smaller.

And if a candidate promises to continue federal money to KVMR is Paul going to recuse his bad self from voting for that candidate?
Maybe all poor folk should recuse themselves from voting for any Dem or Socialists candidate promising free goodies for them.
Right Paul?
And as a tax paying citizen should I recuse myself from voting for some one who promises to lower my tax bill?
And as a Constitutionalist, should I recuse myself from voting for a candidate promising to hold the govt accountable for upholding the Constitution?
We can play this stupid game all day long.
In my view, of course.

How many MD’s in Congress voted for (or against) the Unaffordable Care Act, Paulo?
A very silly and immature game you’re playing, Punch. Farm price supports date to the 1930’s and until you can show LaMalfa is leading the charge to higher payouts, you should probably stfu.
It is an effective argument for the dumbass white listeners of KVMR, so if that’s your target, go for it. In any case, LaMalfa has the election sewn up unless he’s caught in bed with a dead girl or a live boy. No effective Dem opposition and the Green Libertarians are caught up in their political masturbatory machinations.

PEmery sez: “Different deal Scott. LaMalfa is voting to make the law and budget that will profit himself and his family. ”
lol. Good point Scott.
No Paul, it’s exactly the same. Voting for a candidate that promises you he’ll give you something is exactly the same thing. It’s all a big network of graft (or a marketplace if you will) that makes the whole world work.
It seems to me that all female Congressfolks of child-bearing age, assuming there are any, should step aside from voting on family planning law.
Anyhow, it’s a boring topic now. I can accept that Paul has some opinion on LaMalfa and can’t see the relationship between that and any other situation. Nothing to see here folks.
On another topic, I see that Microsoft is going to kick Gab (a free speech alternative to the highly censored Twitter) off of their cloud because of some Nazi California guy’s posts. And so it goes.
Just wait for the Russians to get heavily into the hosting business in order for people to avoid this attempt by Western tech companies to take over the politics of the internet. There’s a helluva lot of irony here.

PaulE 436pm – How on earth would that be a “different deal” since all the voting examples given above have exactly the same conflict of interest, since the votes are for laws, propositions, politicians, etc that directly benefit the voter??
The fundamental mandate of politics calls for people to vote in their own self-interest. And we all always vote for politicians who we believe will best (or most) represent and promote our individual interests. Sending a politician to the legislature and then making him submit to an externally gerrymandered voting regimen is a guaranteed road to government chaos. Such policies are almost always the brainchildren of the neurologically challenged Left.

Maybe he needs an example that plays out the same way as this farming subsidy business, it’s just too large a mental leap to see that it’s all just a matter of degree.
How about…should a rich Congressman (let’s say, John Kerry when he was a Senator, who earned his wealth the old-fashioned way) be able to vote on a bill which set inheritance tax rates? That strikes me as being exactly the same in intent and potentially larger in scope than the problem of a farmer.
Paul? Come on Crickets, you can do it.

Republicans, clinging to a 23-seat majority in the House, have made the House minority leader a central element of their attack ads and are portraying many of their opponents as inextricably tied to the liberal from San Francisco. At the same time, some Democrats are expressing alarm that she is standing in the way of the next generation of leaders.
The tension was apparent Thursday, when Rashida Tlaib became at least the 27th Democratic House candidate to decline to say whether she would support Pelosi. Some Democrats fear that anti-Pelosi attacks aimed at the Democratic candidate in this week’s special election in an Ohio congressional district helped push the Republican to a narrow lead.

The European Union is urging the United States to cut red tape and simplify rules for the export of its liquefied natural gas if Washington wants the 28-nation bloc to buy more. Amid a trade dispute over tariffs, President Donald Trump and Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker agreed last month to start talks intended to achieve “zero tariffs” and “zero subsidies” on non-automotive industrial goods. The EU also agreed to build more terminals to import U.S. liquefied natural gas. Juncker said Thursday that if it’s cheap enough, U.S. gas could help the EU diversify energy supplies and break its dependency on Russia. But he said “the U.S. needs to play its role in doing away with red …

Punchy, in the Great Depression, farms went under. Food supplies were uncertain. Democrats, under FDR, put in place agricultural management regimes that put the Federal government and FDR as the meddler-in-chief between the farmer and their customers.
When a farm goes under, food does not get grown. When a small town music promoter’s business goes under, they get out of the business and people wanting music will listen to someone else. Life is unfair. Perhaps someday someone will have the political capital to get rid of the bad long term solutions put in place during the New Deal, but it is not today. Once you start stealing from Peter to pay Paul, you can count on Paul for votes.

More information for Trump to lie about.
“Former Donald Trump confidante Omarosa Manigault Newman was offered $15,000 a month from the president’s campaign to “stay silent” after being fired from the White House, The Washington Post reported Friday.
The offer was refused because of a nondisclosure agreement that would silence Manigualt Newman from commenting about Trump and his family.
The hush money offer was reportedly offered by Trump campaign advisor and daughter-in-law Lara Trump, who is married to Eric Trump.”
