[Checking back to my 1jan17 post below, I can’t help but smile as I reprise that posting and again advise RR readers to prepare for a 2018 that will both entertain and astonish those of us who take a keen interest in the world’s stage on which the play of comedy and farce – i.e. of politics and politicians – will quicken its pace. Without an unforeseen intervention by the Almighty, the Dems will rue the day that they offered to the American electorate replays of the Trump Derangement Syndrome as their only public policy of record. Happy 2018! gjr]
***
[Again a Happy New Year to all RR readers and its diligent band of commenters of all political shades who do their dharma battles on these pages. This year promises to be even more exciting than 2016 – who knew that Trump would win? – if one can conceive that possibility. Last New Year’s day (1jan16) I opened a new sandbox with these words.
Happy New Year! to all RR readers. This year will turn out more exciting and surprising than any of us can anticipate. From the socialists' perspective, they are at the cusp of a victory from which they can deal a deathblow to American capitalism and institute their new economic order as part of the country's fundamental transformation that Obama promised and has already launched. We conservatarians also see this as a cusp year, but given the disarray of the Republicans, it will be one from which a 2016 Democrat defeat will deliver little besides delaying the day of reckoning between collectivism and open markets capitalism. So I thought it would be appropriate to start the year with a fresh sandbox. gjr]

I love Tammy Bruce. Definitely not a faux feminist. Go get ‘em, Tammy.
Alyssa Milano is a famous American feminist who presents herself as a champion for women and the downtrodden. Yet she is reduced to a shivering infant because the president confidently and proudly promotes an agenda that is improving everyone’s lives.
“Hollywood’s smug infant feminists would do well to read Rita Panahi, an Iranian-born Australian and a columnist at the Herald Sun. She wrote, “In Iran, the changes that stripped women of their rights were not accepted without a fight. In 1979, about 100,000 women bravely took to the streets of Tehran to protest the imposition of Islamic law. … Some of the protesters were stabbed by Islamists, others were imprisoned, and ultimately the fight was lost. To see the feminists of the 2017 Women’s March embrace the hijab as a symbol of diversity and empowerment is an affront to many women forced to wear it. Those who fetishise the hijab, niqab and burqa ignore the plight of millions of oppressed women in the Muslim world.””
As the Iranian people rise up and Ms. Milano curls up, the Obama gang echo-chamber is desperately trying to keep Mr. Trump and America from helping the desperate Iranian people. The same ship of fools that sent at least $1 billion dollars in unmarked cash to that terrorist cesspool, is now out in force telling the president to shut up about Iran.
Tell them to go pound sand, Tammy.

Politics ain’t for pussies for sure. Neither is it for woosies. Tom wrote a great book, should be a best seller. Good for the economy.
In its review of Wolff’s book Burn Rate, Brill’s Content criticized Wolff for “apparent factual errors” and said that 13 people, including subjects he mentioned, complained that Wolff had “invented or changed quotes”.
In a 2004 cover story for The New Republic, Michelle Cottle wrote that Wolff was “uninterested in the working press,” preferring to focus on “the power players—the moguls” and was “fixated on culture, style, buzz, and money, money, money.” She also noted that “the scenes in his columns aren’t recreated so much as created—springing from Wolff’s imagination rather than from actual knowledge of events.” Calling his writing “a whirlwind of flourishes and tangents and asides that often stray so far from the central point that you begin to wonder whether there is a central point.”
“This piece gives us more insight about the twisted worldview of Michael Wolff than it does about The New York Times.
This is one of the most cynical things I’ve read in a long time. It’s disgusting, frankly”
http://archives.cjr.org/the_audit/michael_wolffs_high_cynicism.php
“But seven of the main characters and six others portrayed in-or familiar with-events in the book, disagree. They say Wolff invented or changed quotes. And none of those quoted recalls Wolff taking notes or recording the discussions, some of which took place three years ago.
Wolff says he has notes and e-mail that back him up, but refuses to release them. “I’m sure people are very surprised to see these meetings come back to life,” he says. “But that’s good writing. That may be great writing.”

Mr. Cross:
Yep, everything they say about Trump is true.
Around 2014, I looked at what the R’s were putting out as the next standard barrier. Jeb Bush or another one of the Gang of Eight. No thanks. Low Engery Jeb didn’t even get double digits by the time Trump was through. Pretty Boy Little Marco? Trump beat him in his home state of FLA., lol. Walker faltered on his own. Cruz was hated by the RINO’s more than by the Dems. The Establishment of both parties couldn’t stand the former Democrat Trump , but they really hated Cruz even more. Got down to Trump or Cruz and Trump won the nomination.
Trump was the only one of the final two candidates after the conventions that was more comfortable with cabbies and construction workers than he/she was with their Limousine Liberal Friends. A no-brainer.
Oh, Mr. Cross, I can think of 3 regulars here (not libs or the Green Libertarian)…3 real regulars that are right of center that DID NOT vote for Trump, FYI. And that is just off the top of me melon. That’s about half of the real regulars, according to my finger counting.
But, everything you say about Trump is true. But, no one else could fill his shoes?. The right tool for the right job at the right time. He was elected to stop the Progressive Agenda. Pretty simple.

Nationalized healthcare bureaucrats see no profit in caring for the extra-sick who will just make their numbers look bad, and we must always remember that they get no marginal reward for making a name for themselves going all out for the patients as customers. They know they are a monopoly, the customers have no place else to go.

RobertC 435pm – I don’t think you can demonstrate that it’s as cavalier as you assert. There are certain constitutionally mandated rights and obligations reserved for the federal government, and immigration, foreign policy, and border security are among those. States willing to go crossways on those must be prepared for the consequences from Washington. However, that doesn’t give the feds a blanket to pass laws they can’t/won’t enforce, especially those in areas which are not spelled out in the Constitution. I know it’s hard to maintain the liberal narrative and keep consistent on this, but you should at least make a better attempt.

“The Battle of Copenhagen”
Ten thousand Swedes ran through the weeds,
chased by one norwegian.
Ten thousand more ran to the shore
in the battle of Copenhagen.
Way, way back in history,
back when the world was new,
norwegian searched all over,
to find some snoose to chew.
They fished for Lutefisk and Torsk,
it helped to make them strong,
and you and me, we know a Norsk,
cannot do nothing wrong.
But swedes and danes were envious
of Viking trips and raids.
The Viking shields and helmet horns,
made all those folks affraid.
Throughout the world the Vikings sailed,
to Ireland and to France.
The even found America,
one afternoon by chance.
My grandpa says, and he should know,
the swedes made up the minds.
To beat the Norsky Vikings,
and kick a few behinds.
But history, so grandpa says,
show that the Norskies won.
They clobbered all the swedes and danes,
and made it lots of fun.
Ten thousand swedes ran through the weeds,
chased by one norwegian.
The dust from the weeds,
made snoose for the swedes,
and they called it Copenhagen,

Sessions mandate is a dream come true for the renegade pot growers. Interfere with the legalization choice of states and leave the states with an an unenforceable federal law that the states won’t enforce. No matter what Sessions does pot won’t be against State law and the States have no business enforcing federal law. Imagine teams of feds running around he Ridge? What a joke.
Colorado is pissed. Just saw the Governor on TV railing agaisnt Sessions. Also the Repub Senator of Colorado is threatening to take action and hold up appointments.
“Three days after California legalized the use of recreational marijuana, Attorney General Jeff Sessions on Thursday indicated he intends to reverse an Obama-era federal policy that discouraged federal prosecution of the drug in states where it was legal.
Lawmakers in states that have legalized the drug for medical and/or recreational purposes reacted negatively to the news, many of them calling out Sessions’ inconsistency on states’ rights.
Sen. Cory Gardner (R-Colo.), whose state legalized recreational use of the drug in 2012, called out the attorney general in a fiery speech on the Senate floor Thursday, claiming Sessions has gone back on a private assurance he gave before his confirmation at the Justice Department.
Gardner also railed against the Trump administration’s habit of making drastic policy changes on a dime……
“This must be left up to the states,” Gardner had tweeted earlier, adding that he is “prepared to take all steps necessary,” including holding up Justice Department nominees, until Sessions stands down.”

There is no mention of marijuana in the Constitution, nor nary a word about Social Security. There are, however, mentions of the right to bear arms, which states have no say about, and the Federal government exclusive role in immigration policy, which again, states have no say about.
Some things belong under the Fed’s preview, others under Federalism….in a perfect world. Most counties will be lucky to get 11-19% of the renegade growers to come out of the cold and go legit anyway.
