[One of our daughters is visiting this weekend and we decided to take in the gun show at fairgrounds today. The entire show fit into the Amaral Center and was very well attended; in fact there were actually too many people there back to back and belly to belly. But the show itself was a bit sad – not enough shooting hardware. No major manufacturers showing off their line, the reason being that gun makers are not sending as much of their new stuff to California to be put through the regulatory and testing hoops to make sure they are up to snuff in a state that really wants to confiscate every last gun from civilian hands. Another sign of the times. gjr]

The thing is, I don’t doubt that every member of the Trump White House has done something sketchy. In a world where a bunch of Green Libertarians got left in place in the bureaucracy combined with 24/7 surveillance of everybody via the national security state, all people have history.
In my mind, in the long run (and if it hasn’t happened already), the intelligence services combined with their commercial surrogates will end up running the country.
I do see that Obama is running the slow-motion lynching from his new house.

A woman who identified herself as a DREAMer was arrested after speaking at an immigration press conference in Jackson, Mississippi, CBS affiliate WJTV reports. …….
Daniela Vargas was taken into custody on Wednesday, according to attorneys Ramiro Orozco and Abby Peterson and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement……
Vargas, 22, came to the U.S. from Argentina when she was seven years old, according to Peterson. She applied for, and was granted, DACA status in 2012. She renewed it in 2014. Her DACA status expired on Nov. 11 last year. She reapplied in February and as of February 10, her application was pending with USCIS, according to Peterson.
Vargas has not been back to Argentina since she arrived in the U.S. 15 years ago. Peterson said Vargas has no criminal record aside from minor traffic violations and driving without insurance. She has no unpaid tickets.

Try letting your visa lapse anywhere else in the world. Plus, no matter what the procedure is, it’s always possible to find someone on it’s edges to make some sort of arguing point. It’s like justifying the colonization of Europe by tens of millions of people because there’s a photograph of a dead Kurdish child on a beach.
It’s a all a nasty side effect of having a de facto wet foot/dry foot policy for years. I suppose that you could blame prior administrations for ignoring immigration law all this time, but what good what that do?

You have to admit that becoming a public figure when you are violating the law is an iffy proposition. Should she have to do any paperwork at all? If she skipped her taxes, should she get in trouble (after all, she didn’t hurt anybody)?
Perhaps it would be easiest to come up with a list of laws that protected classes can violate. There’d at least be a bit of honesty in that.

A fun experiment. Without using Google, explain exactly what a legal definition of ‘Dreamer’ is. Explain what a ‘path to citizenship’ is.
Words. Just words. Slogans to most people since they rarely understand more than the meme itself. Coming up with public policy is hard and it usually involves a combination of evolution of law and court cases over time.
But…without enforcement, the law is absolutely meaningless.

I am beginning to lose count of everytime Donald J. Trump was written off as good as dead. Done. Kaput. Put a fork in it. Hasn’t happened yet.
I am beginning to see a pattern here. NYT, Politico, or WaPo publishes a rumor. Accusations, but no facts. CNN covers it 24/7. Nancy starts screaming about impeachment at the top of her lungs and starts yelling her head off about dictatorship and the Nazi takeover of the USA. Chuckie joins in to the chorus.
Then the questions fly concerning this “very disturbing report”, if true, why did you do it??
All hell is breaking loose and Trump is gone! Then PE starts stroking himself and spewies all over the broadcast booth, giving himself a pearl necklace. Just like the Golden Shower story.
“Got him now! This time we really got him.” Then, back to the polls and waiting for another next very disturbing story, if true, Trump’s toast. Yawn.

The truth is that she is super highly unlikely to be deported. I don’t doubt that whatever new executive branch application of current law gets cooked up will likely have provisions to deal with illegal aliens who entered the country as children.
What is going on here (of course) is that you find the most egregious case that you can and then apply that theory to the entire problem. Track down some case where a person entered the US as a puling babe in the arms of their mother and doesn’t speak their home country’s language, double bonus points for a high school valedictorian and member of the marching band, and then state why that should allow 20 million people to enter the country illegally. There’s probably a logical fallacy type that exactly suits that case.
In a nutshell, that’s why there’s no point in arguing about this kind of situation. It’s all about memes and headlines and feelz.

Sorry to tell you Sessions is backing off on his Pot rattles. Too much opposition from the Repubs. Here’s the scoop. Back to the drawing board for ya. Sorry to tell you the bad news.

But Sessions provided some private assurances to senators before he was confirmed that he was not considering a major shift in enforcement, despite his opposition to the use of marijuana.

But a large group of bipartisan senators aren’t taking any chances. They sent a letter on on Thursday urging Sessions to uphold the Obama-era policy of allowing states to implement their recreational marijuana laws, after the Trump administration has indicated it could crack down on marijuana.
