[It is now clear that none of the news outlets and pockets of pundits given various persuasions understand what President-elect Trump is doing in staffing his administration and/or starting to coagulate his sometimes outrageous campaign rhetoric into the outline of actual policies.  Those of us who looked behind his literalisms may now find ourselves a bit less surprised, but not by much.  My hope is that he continues making his own way while successfully herding the very capable bunch of cats he has attracted, not all of whom agree with him on every point.  He has purposely not assembled an echo chamber for the simple reason that he has to first study the swamp a bit before he accepts the various plans he will receive to drain its parts.  The first lesson is that the swamp is a complex collection of mires any one of which could swallow an administration, and has so done in the past.  gjr]

Let me ask you this about the Russian interference in our elections allegations. Do you thinkthere is enough concern to have a full investigation into the mater?

I see that Paul has decided to bypass any actual proof that the Russians caused any disruption in American politics and wants to know about an investigation.
The fact is that the CIA won’t provide any evidence to back up their claim.
Paul is mute on that point.
    As always.
Answer this Paul: how can we have a full investigation of a ‘thing’ when there is no evidence that the ‘thing’ even exists?
    Paul is mute.

ScottO 1011pm – Right now the entire Russian interference affair is at a ‘she said he said’ level. That Obama believes the Russians interfered should mean next to nothing since he is one of the biggest documented National Liars. Given that, I would be surprised if it isn’t part of Russia’s policy to hack into every significant server and digital storage facility in the world. We most certainly have been doing it forever. Should we investigate? Well yes, but that can and should be done as a routine task under our cyber warfare program, and not as a public federal case. PaulE can do no better than to attempt to blow up a little dust devil in these pages.

Received an email from our Designated Reader this morning that reports Union columnist Hilary Hodge is “going to stand up to our local deplorables in 2017” but apparently can’t get anyone to give a big rat’s asset. She is “begging” local leftwingers to respond to her call to “drown out hate” (aka anything she disagrees with) with comments. It seems the whole problem arises because more reasonable voices in the community “allow” non-progressive sentiments to be expressed in blogs and the local media.

Checking the time stamps on comments following the latest Hodge column at the Union and there has been a liberal rush to support the author, with 8 comments added today. Time for some more conservative counter arguments on lost innocence.

Russ 1138am – Comment wars about Hodges’ hodgepodge columns? Right now I’m busy looking for my ‘I’m sorry, but you have me confused with someone who gives a crap’ button. While the lady has every right to be heard, I wish her columns would find a more appropriate environment in the Personal Reflections and Emotional Traumas section of the paper.

Hodge is afflicted with the Progressive disease that deludes the sufferer into being convinced that folks who don’t share their opinions are either evil or ignorant. The first step towards recovery is understanding their own failings and approaching the subject with a bit more humility and respect for others.
Those of us who had a part in actually creating the Internet thank you for using it, but just having access to the information is only the start; it still takes some self control study to actually learn, rather than just marvel at the words, pictures and sounds flying by. In other words, any good library already has enough information to keep most people learning for an entire lifetime, including Ms. Hodge.

I always admired and respected Judith’s independence of thought. And her reasonableness. Here is a long video I posted under Hilary’s column. No, it’s not 2 hours long and it’s from 2004 after W beat Kerry. It’s about independent thought, conservatives and minorities, about 30 minutes long. I think Gregory will like parts of it, I assume Judith will too. Maybe Fish and Brad C. By the former head of the LA chapter of Now, among other accomplishments. Interesting. Relevant in 2016, post election.

BT, reading the speech to text transcript devoid of punctuation or proper capitalization led me to sections that were unassailable… yes, the ability to take one’s opponent seriously is key to real debate, and it’s the left who are reactionarily dismissive of anyone who disagrees with them.
Anyone dismissive of the Right as “pubbers” is suffering from delusions of superiority.
It’s also no coincidence that Rebane, IMO far more conservative than libertarian, hosts the most open blog in the County.
Scott Adams of Dilbert fame also talks about all the death threats he got after he endorsed Trump that stopped as soon as he pretended to change his mind and be a Clinton supporter. Someone on her side should slap Ms. Hodge silly, metaphorically speaking, of course… it’s her people that are selling real hate. It was the Clinton campaign who were hiring modern Brownshirts to make trouble in the streets.

Not sure if I follow you exactly, but it’s all good. The part of the group think, the group identity, the inability to grow individually and think for yourself outside the group identity is what I picked up….the ole individual potential and thus responsibility (conservative for lack of a better term) as opposed to not being able/forbidden to go past the group identity (today’s liberalism) is what I got out of it. The first 10 minutes was just background credentials to set the stage, IMHO.

Change of topic briefly…….Charles let his humor slip out again.
    http://therightscoop.com/krauthammer-trump-turn-un-trump-condos/
It is amazing to me that such a tiny speck of land has consumed some many US Presidents and our best forgein policy efforts to “solve the problem” for so many years with such little to show for it.
It is even more amazing to me that tiny tiny tiny Israel with no natural resources in her countryside has developed into a modern technological advanced democracy in unheard of record time…. in barren wasteland.
Also fascinating is the fact that any Arab in Israel has more freedoms and rights than any other Arab has in the entire Muslim world.
Puzzling to me is with all the land mass that is contained in the Arab world, none have developed the thriving advanced society, technological advances, or diverse economy that matches tiny Israel. Sure, Lebanon once bragged about Beirut, the Paris of the Mediterranean, but then the PLO moved in and the place went to the dogs.
The whole Israel story is fairly unique in the annuals of recorded history. Every country in history has been invaded at one time or another or been the invader. With all the blending of cultures and tribes, the taking of slaves and being enslaved, the Hebrew language is the only language that remains intact (unaltered) from its earliest known roots.
I find it amazing, but that is just me…and I am not Jewish.

On another topic why does Trump allow such outright racists such as Carl Paladino be part of his team? Paladino iss vice chair of Trump’s New York campaign and a major fundraiser.
““Michelle Obama,” he wrote. “I’d like her to return to being a male and let loose in the outback of Zimbabwe where she lives comfortably in a cave with Maxie, the gorilla.”
““Obama catches mad cow disease after being caught having relations with a Herford,” he wrote. “He dies before his trial and is buried in a cow pasture next to Valerie Jarret, who died weeks prior, after being convicted of sedition and treason, when a Jihady cell mate mistook her for being a nice person and decapitated her.” (Valerie Jarrett, who is black, is senior adviser to Obama. She is not dead.)”

NY was a non event for the Trump campaign. like California, approximately zero chance for any electoral votes. My expectation is that Paladino was a rough SOB who got a largely ceremonial position in exchange for a large campaign donation. A large wallet will always find a spot… or are you so “hopelessly naive” to not know that?

Putin’s response to Obama’s sanctions and expulsion of diplomats…
“We will not expel anyone. We will not prevent their families and children from using their traditional leisure sites during the New Year’s holidays. Moreover, I invite all children of U.S. diplomats accredited in Russia to the New Year and Christmas children’s parties in the Kremlin,” Putin added.
Obama is making Russians like Putin even more than they do. We’ll never get rid of Putin with Obama playing “go fish” and Putin playing chess. Putin’s made Obama (and the USA) look small in Russians’ eyes.

“Exxon has turned into a collateral victim of the U.S. economic sanctions against Russia. So while supermajor BP’s chief executive Bob Dudley said earlier this week that he was “a little saddened” with the way the Deepwater Horizon movie has painted his company, Exxon’s Rex Tillerson has perhaps an even greater reason to be a little saddened.
Exxon, the world’s biggest oil and gas company by value, entered Russia in the 1990s and has enjoyed a long and fruitful presence there. This presence was set to expand further with Exxon’s plans to take part in the exploration and exploitation of the country’s Arctic shelf. Unfortunately for Exxon, the U.S. and the EU hit Russia with sanctions over the annexation of Crimea and its support for Eastern Ukrainian rebels.”

The FBI squarely blamed Russian intelligence services on Thursday for meddling in the 2016 U.S. presidential election, releasing the most definitive report yet on the issue, including samples of malicious computer code said to have been used in a broad hacking campaign…..
While the Department of Homeland Security and Office of the Director of National Intelligence had said Russia was behind the hacking in October, the report is the first detailed technical analysis provided by the government and the first official FBI statement.

Paul, you are still stuck in the same loop… the issue isn’t “did someone in Russia hack”, or how did they hack, it’s what did they do that compromised our election?
You seemed to think it was OK to steal Trump’s tax return and make it public, as long as they didn’t change it, committing a fraud.
The worst you seem to be charging is that the Russkies stole files with embarrassing emails showing dirty tricks by Dems against Dems and Dems against Republicans, and then they released faithful copies to the public domain. No fraud, and they weren’t doing anything that the NY Times wouldn’t have done against a Richard Nixon in the past.
But we still have Assange and WikiLeaks being adamant that the Russians didn’t provide the files.

    EPA has outlived its usefulness
EPA To Alaskans In Sub-Zero Temps: Stop Burning Wood To Keep Warm
In Alaska’s interior, where it can reach -50 degrees Fahrenheit in winter, the EPA wants people to stop burning wood. But it’s just about their only feasible way to stay warm.

The only alternative for rural Alaskans is to leave home and move to the city or die. Rulemaking is easy when the EPA toadies live and work in a concrete building warmed by a magic device in the basement; it would be much harder if the EPA toadies lived in Alaska. Trump needs to return environmental management back to the States, closer to the lives of the people impacted by the rules.
