When you shoot yourself in a foot that youโve already stuck in your mouth, thereโs a good chance youโll blow your head off.
Today California and five other states render their verdicts in the presidential primaries. And what boggles my mind are the choices that I and other Americans are presented by the countryโs major political parties. One is a lying, thieving, corrupt crook with no demonstrated skills in statecraft. And the other is an egomaniac with the demonstrated communication skills of an irritated 3rd grader on the school playground, also with no demonstrated skills in statecraft.
The shrill progressive candidate promises to deliver a Clintonesque version of Obama 3.0 (complete with expanded services the Clinton Foundation can then offer to world leaders and corporatists) while continuing to usher the US on a path to domestic autocracy and failed European socialism cum globalism. While correctly pointing out why Americans are disgusted with government, the haircut confuses objectives with plans to achieve said objectives with โJust trust me to make America great again.โ But sporting a world-class diaphanous skin, this TV star can easily be pulled off message by any real or imagined slight to his inflated persona. And there we see him today taking aim at guess which foot.
So what to do? Vote for the surefire crook and lying progressive without a resume, or the braggart who has at least demonstrated he can manage companies and make money in the market place. The problem is that all the worldโs bad guys know that Hillary is a corrupt hockey puck, but they know nothing about and are more than apprehensive of the guy with the loud mouth. Given these considerations, and that The Donald will be more inclined to work with Congress and surround himself with smart people (which, save Gates, Obama couldnโt for eight years), we firmly affixed nose clamps and voted for Trump.
[8jun16 update] Congratulations are in order to Ms Heidi Hall for her successful campaign to become Nevada Countyโs newest Supervisor. And if the lady remains true to her ideological heritage, then condolences are also in order for our county. In any event, Duane Strawser showed us all that a lackadaisical approach to elective office will not work, especially for a newcomer going against a handsome, experienced, and energetic opponent. And that doubly so when about a third of your supportive constituents sit on their collective ass instead of getting up the gumption to vote.
Add Ms Hallโs victory to the debate on Measure W and its downfall yesterday, and it becomes clear why our sheriff and the current BoS wanted to constrain the latitude of future supervisors in crafting ordinances about MJ production in our county. While I was not in favor of legislating the countyโs MJ production rules through popular initiatives, I remain supportive to the concerns and predicted impact that outdoor grows have on our quality of life and local economy. The new BoS will now have a go at reshaping โemergencyโ Ordinance 2405.
From a higher vantage our Republicans really donโt have a leg to stand on as they lament the spread of progressivism into the hinterlands. If they cannot make a suitable (palatable?) case for the Right-thinking grass roots to vote, then we all will suffer from Americaโs current blight of rampant collectivism as we recall the history of socialism unopposed. It was ever thus.
