[Time for a new sandbox for the weekend. The old one required too much scrolling to get to the most recent stuff. Anybody willing to give any odds on the Comey Vote. Several of you are so sure that Hillary will pull it off that it seems you're willing to bet the ranch on it. I'm just wondering what kind of odds are all those sure-shots willing to give, or are we doomed to receive only repeats of their staid old verbiage? GJR]

Boy, are people pissed out there. Van Jones and the far left wing pundits calling for My Gal’s Second Best Friend Forever DNC Debbie’s head on a platter, blaming her for the embarrsing giant gash in the Big Tent. Boy, they sure don’t make big tops they way they used to. Oh, My Gal’s Best Friend Forever is Mrs. Weiner, who just happens to be testifying in a civil case on top of everything else. Anothony must be raising that kid all by himself, so I will cut him some slack. Be there, done that. Besides, My Gal can’t stand him anyway.
Ametican Airplines is pissed at the TSA, Ralph Dader is angry at Harvard, and Sharon is fit to be tied over Ozzie Osborn’s walks on the wild side.
The Bernie Bros are pissed at everything. Well, I’ll cut themsome stack as well. I’d be pissed too when Hillary so eloquently said today “Hey, all you CA Dem primary voters: your votes Does Not Matter. I, who am fighting for you and over you, about you, and against you am the winner. Your vote won’t changing a thing. Suck wind, Berners. Fell this Burn?? ” Cackle, Cackle, dog bark. Not very gracious IMHO.
Another reason I will give the Berners 9 miles of payment and a long rope is they are saying what I am thinking, just like Rush back in the day! Plus, we get the added bonus of being spectators (not participants) to the gauchely burn Hillary on the stake movement. But the icing on the cake is all those Friends of Bill calling him crying in the phone about the nasty mean vile unrepeatable things the Berners are saying about his wife on line. Boy, ole Willy was livid hearing what they were saying about his wife. You could that see that vein on the side of his temple bulge out and throbe. Priceless.
Holy Smokes. Now some judge is pissed to the max at DOJ. Ordered the lot of them involved to take mandatory ethnics training. Interesting times.
No need to panic. Everything is just they way it is supposed to be.

It appears that there are no new arguments to be had in the Measure W debate. All the old ones are being reported as if they were just presented, instead of including in their citations that the same old barn is being circled once more. IMHO that itself is now the news – the pro/con sides have shot their wads and are just rehashing their long established stances for the latecomers to the party.
Maybe what should also be re-emphasized is that neither side has any real data germane to Nevada County that can be used as a stake in the ground from which to expand their arguments. What will be inevitable is another demonstration of how public policy is democratically emoted into place through referenda and initiatives by an uninformed (and uninformable?) electorate – the weak underpinning of pure democracy of which our Founders were painfully aware.

So, let me get this straight. A forgein national not allowed or permitted into the US has had a bad back for years prior to sneaking illegally into our house, our country, our nation… Painfull and makes him/her unable to seek and obtain employment. Somehow he/she makes it to Glacier National Park or Bozeman. So, we have to pay the disability tab for his/her bad back because…..because why?

I have not listened to the Allen/Bessee debate – cannot find it on take2’s website (yet).
I did listen to the Emery/Bessee KVMR Q&A. I noticed Bessee constantly refer himself as ‘we’ in his comments. Who is ‘we’? His comments sounded more like he was referring to the county (Supes, Sheriff) as if he is their spokesperson. Bessee mentioned his SAM affiliation and Federation of Neighborhood Associations of Nevada County (FONA) affiliation and made it sound like he was speaking for all neighborhood associations. I googled FONA and was redirected to the Greater Cement Hill Neighborhood Association (GCHNA). Paul Emery said he had spoken with GCHNA and did not get the same info Bessee was reporting. I think Bessee is talking about complaints being generated in Alta Sierra (in his neighborhood).
I thought Bessee’s complaint about traffic was overblown (like most of his fear based comments). Wineries also have seasonal (Latino?, illegals?) laborers driving up roads to prune, harvest the grapes, work the fields, etc. But, for some reason, he is afraid of (long hair, white) folks driving up similar roads to provide seasonal labor trimming MJ. What about organic U-pick vegetable farmers? Who knows who those customers are?
Measure W is being used to legislate from the ‘grave’. We will be stuck with this measure long after the current supes and sheriff are history.
It would be so much simpler change the current ordinance to allow 12 plants (for example), indoors, or outdoors, on acreage over ‘X’ acres where the potential for odors to travel to neighboring properties would be minimized.
I have looked on Google Earth and there are areas where everyone growing MJ. Obviously, these areas are not going to generate complaints about ‘skunk smells”. – so what’s the problem? Enforce the existing ordinances.

Brad, I agree 100% with your 10:08 take. Perfect summation. This is not very complicated. Yes, it IS about the looks of many of the MJ growers. They don’t look like Ed Scofield and other conservative old timers, as those old timers were always told, those type of long-hairs are never, ever to be trusted. Dad told them that a long time ago. And Dad was always right of course.. Its also about the inability of certain people to move beyond their undying faith in the premise of Reefer Madness, not to mention the dire warnings of their authoritarian dads and moms about anti-American, lazy “long-hair types” and the evil weed. Scare the kids, put them to bed and open up the liquor cabinet for a nightcap! The American Way of the 1950s and 60s! Ah the good old days!

That’s right fish, Brad’s post was about the best take on this I’ve yet seen anywhere. But the daddy issues you cite appear to be something endemic to most of the hardcore Measure W crowd. The fear of a deceased dear-old-dad peering over one’s shoulder to make sure those Reefer Madness themes were not unlearned. Guilt and fear are hard things to unlearn.

Measure W makes it illegal to grow a single MJ plant on a private 120 acre parcel. Can we all agree this is a blatantly flagrant misuse of government powers? If one plant on 120 acres is an unreasonable takings by the government, how many plants on how many acres is reasonable? That should be the starting point of the discussion. According to Royal and Bessee, there is no room for negotiations – I find this singular superior attitude the most frustrating and frightening aspect of the entire measure W effort.

The generation gap in right wing circles GOP circles is massive. But in time it shall end. Again, its Father Knows Best, and the good feeling that comes from having control over long-hairs and other assorted youngsters that haven’t yet grown up. The ties to the 1950s thinking and the bitterness caused by the revolts of the 1960s cannot be understated. Young GOP ideologues have no interest in insane and useless prohibitions like Measure W, and are more interested in property rights and fiscal matters.

Cut to the chase. Is W passing or going down? Any polling besides what some dude said from his perspective of the world?? 72 plants on 41 acres would be just fine…..but, noooooo. Only the ones with 41 acres would be happy (me, me, me!), but I will go out on a limb and hazard to guess that neither one of the Jons would be happy with that as our county’s growing regs. And most of the growers that appeared at the BOS confab would give the thumbs down as well. Am I wrong?
In news closer to my heart, Hillary’s campaign strategy’s secret weapon has always been Bill. Heck, even Obama called him in to the salvage the 2012 Dem Convention. Not personally a big issue for me this election season, but the spotlight on hypocrisy of the right is just amazing to me. W doesn’t impact me directly, but clearly impacts a lot of other people I know who operate local businesses.

    Bill:
Nevada City has decided how many roosters are allowed in a town lot. The county has determined how many cows you can have on a zoned parcel (no, you can’t have a cow in town). There will always be haggling, wheeling and dealing. Someone will always want one more rooster or his neighbor to have one less cow. That is what intelligent land planing and zoning is all about.
W ignores county zoning altogether and treats an apartment balcony in Grass Valley the same as a quarter section of ranch land on the Ridge. Can any rational person argue that a single MJ plant on a 120 acre farm is a threat to anyone? I think not. it’s about government over reach, creeping government control over private property rights, and, I’m convinced, not just a little bit driven by the local prison industry economy.

Ahhh…that’s why you’re such a vibrant go getter……you were only just born in 1976. The 40’s truly the best time of a mans life!
    Funny…I always pictured you older.

“Once upon a time, it was common for an American child to be packed off to school with a rifle on his back and for him to come home smiling and safe in the evening. Shooting clubs, now quietly withering away, were once such a mainstay of American high-school life that in the first half of the 20th century they were regularly installed in the basements of new educational buildings. Now, they are in their death throes, victims of political correctness, a willful misunderstanding of what constitutes “gun safety,” and our deplorable tendency toward litigiousness.
In 1975, New York state had over 80 school districts with rifle teams. In 1984, that had dropped to 65. By 1999 there were just 26. The state’s annual riflery championship was shut down in 1986 for lack of demand. This, sadly, is a familiar story across the country. The clubs are fading from memory, too. A Chicago Tribune report from 2007 notes the astonishment of a Wisconsin mother who discovered that her children’s school had a range on site. “I was surprised, because I never would have suspected to have something like that in my child’s school,” she told the Tribune. The district’s superintendent admitted that it was now a rarity, confessing that he “often gets raised eyebrows” if he mentions the range to other educators. The astonished mother raised her eyebrows, too — and then led a fight to have the range closed. “Guns and school don’t mix,” she averred. “If you have guns in school, that does away with the whole zero-tolerance policy.”

An irrational fear of weapons, generally guns, usually occuring as a result of a liberal upbringing or the fact that the person is just a wimp in general. Rather than deal with the fear said hoplophobe will assign human characteristics to a weapon ie “guns are evil” or “guns kill” to justify the fear rather than deal with the core problem of being a sissy.
Due to his aversion to weapons, all the the police could do for young Seth the hoplophobe was chalk his cold dead body out on the floor as he had no defense for the thug that broke into his one bedroom apartment in San Fran, the policed noted the irony in the fact that the killer had scored three hits in the “O” portion of Seth’s OBAMA 08 T-shirt.

    Ooohh…jon swings…..and misses again.
    You should read further…..

“That is, if they handed them in at all. Up until the ’70s, especially in rural areas, it was commonplace to see kids entering and leaving their school campuses with rifle bags slung lazily over their backs. Guns were left in school lockers, and rifles and shotguns were routinely seen in high-school parking lots, hanging in the rear windows of pickup trucks. A good friend of mine is from North Dakota. His father was telling me recently that in the late 1960s he would hunt before school and then take his rifle — and his bloodstained kills — to school to show his teachers. He and his friends would compare their shooting techniques in the school grounds. Nobody batted an eyelid. In North Dakota, school shootings were non-existent; in the country at large, they were extremely rare.

    Reading comprehension…..it’s a beautiful thing.

Not at all. You offered the blatantly false statement that kids taking rifles to school wasn’t something that occurred in your lifetime. The article lists 1975 as a time where kids routinely hauled rifles to school (no differentiation was made between casual transport of weapons to school for hunting and participation in sanctioned shooting events). I personally witnessed the same phenomenon when I was in high school in the late 70’s/early 80’s in western Nevada. Since you stated inaccurately that it “never happened in your lifetime” I could only make the assumption that you were far younger than you had hinted at in the past.
So while I’m clearly fucking with you about your true age it in no way changes the fact that you are….as usual…..just plain wrong!

But not your own, correct? How much child support did you owe the State before you married a woman, mortgaged her home to the hilt, and then paid off the State… gettin away from all those little legal problems. And how about when you sent photos to an entire girls soccer team, that were determined to be less than savory? And what about the busload of children that you endangered, when you disregarded the extended STOP placards and the red blinking lights? Your actions prove how much you value children.
    We heard
em, bessery. He admitted what he has done. And he stands by his action. When will you become a man and do the same?
