[Time for a new sandbox for the weekend. The old one required too much scrolling to get to the most recent stuff. Anybody willing to give any odds on the Comey Vote. Several of you are so sure that Hillary will pull it off that it seems you're willing to bet the ranch on it. I'm just wondering what kind of odds are all those sure-shots willing to give, or are we doomed to receive only repeats of their staid old verbiage? GJR]

PaulE@1033pm – Thanks for mentioning your upcoming interview with Don Bessee tonight.
I listened to your Duane/Heidi and Matt/Travis, Measure W, interviews this morning.
I also listened to your interview with Sheriff Royal and Dr. Rebane. In that interview, the Sheriff argued that we need a ballot initiative because MJ lobbyists in Colorado were ‘buying’ elections and installing pro-MJ ‘puppets’ in previously anti-MJ counties in order to overturn anti-MJ ordinances.
The way our sheriff and supes have been voting on MJ issues, I can only assume it is not pro-MJ lobbyists who are ‘buying’ elections in Nevada County.
The Sheriff went on to talk about all the statistics and studies done in Colorado that, apparently without exception, concluded that MJ was the sole cause of a multitude of negative outcomes from auto accidents to panhandling and other social ills. So much so that it began to sound to me like the Sheriff was channeling the ‘Refer Madness’ mindset of the 1930s. I bet those same types of ‘experts’ we’re trotted out to make MJ illegal back in the day.
Can anyone think of a time when law enforcement decided, “let’s get rid of some laws, we have too many”. That would be like the IRS saying, “let’s adopt a flat tax”. The Sheriff is a politician – you have to keep that in mind when you think you hear him speaking out both sides of his mouth with statements such as, “Vote no on Measure S because it will be set in stone”, but, “Vote Yes on Measure W because it will be set in stone”.

These are my thoughts concerning the interview of Don Bessee that aired this evening on KVMR, hosted by Paul Emery.
First, this was in no way an interview but was, instead, a debate with Bessee taking the Pro-W side (obviously) and Emery taking an Anti-W position. This surprised me as I expected Emery, as the host of a regularly scheduled news program, to perform the role of journalist rather than debate participant. It would, in my opinion, have been far more appropriate to have invited somebody from the Anti-W camp to participate with Emery hosting and mediating as needed.
Second, Emery’s performance in the debate was abysmal. He seemed unprepared and poorly informed, and unable to support his own assertions. Bessee, on the other hand, was very well prepared with answers to each and every issue that Emery raised.
Color me disappointed.

Boy, I sure would not want to be in Nevada Dem Chair Roberta’s Lange’s shoes. Bernie Bros throwing chairs, hurling naughty names at Dem female leaders, and being violent. Doors to the State Dem office were shuttered today….maybe tomorrow as well. It ain’t cool to openly support My Gal in Nevada, among many other places.
“Several Sanders backers have condemned some of the threats against Lange and other actions Saturday. Former state assemblywoman Lucy Flores, a current congressional candidate, said in a statement: “There were actions over the weekend and at the Democratic convention that very clearly crossed the line. Progressives need to speak out against those: Making threats against someone’s life, defacing private property, and hurling vulgar language at our female leaders.”
State party offices remained closed Monday for security reasons after Sanders supporters posted Lange’s home and business addresses, email and cell phone number online. Copies of angry and threatening texts to Lange were included with the letter.
Lange said she’d been receiving hundreds of profanity-laced calls and texts from inside and outside of the U.S., threatening her life and her family. Lange said the restaurant where she works has received so many calls it had to unplug the phone.
“It is endless, and the longer it goes the worse it gets,” Lange said in an interview

Oh Fish @ 8:03 am. All that pales in comparison to the dastardly deed that 78 year old sucker puncher did with his elbow at the violent Charlotte, NC Trump rally. That senior citizen had the whole nation up in arms, including our own Mr. Crabb and Mr. Emery, not to mention Mr. Broadman. Horrible, just unspeakable, what that 78 year old thin man did to that big Dem supporter giving the ole Heil Hilter salute. Or was he giving the audience the one finger salute? I get the abhorrent shocking reaction of Trump rally goers confused. At least my side does not use the C word when referring to Hillary or State Dem Chairwomen, or out of the closet Hillary supporters. Always a silver lining.

BTW, Mr. Boardman wrote an excellent opinion piece in yesterday’s The Union. I agreed with every word start to finish. Almost made me overlook his snobbery directed at Southerners from North Carolina. Almost, but if he pens another great editorial, I might be tempted to overlook that tiny character flaw and also may include LOP in our county, despite the long held wide majority belief that LOP is just a bedroom suburb of Auburn in Placer County. :).
Yep, the older we get, the more we notice things like potholes. Harder on the back than back in the day when we could sleep soundly under bridges and in thickets along our nation’s highways and byways. Oh, to be young again when potholes were invisible and we were invincible..

TJ- 7:27. Bought two tires and a pump from the guy in Grass Valley. Token purchase I know, but 6 months ago that money would have been spent in NC. A friend just ordered a several hundred dollar roof rack from Xtreeme instead of Tour, again, another example of voting with your wallet.
PE- 8:48. Exactly! By far and away the most divisive issue on the ballot and Dwayne plays hide the salami regarding his stance. He says he is waiting for more facts. Well the ballots have been printed – he has all the facts any other voter has. His absolute lack of spine reminds me of Gray Davis. I don’t ask that he agree with me, simply have the balls to come out and make his position known. He is asking for our vote and the least we can ask is that he’ll tell us what he’ll do if given our vote. Heidi is far from a perfect candidate, but at least she isn’t afraid to state, (in plain English) exactly how she stands on the issues.

jons@828am – yes, Duane is running for BOS. The BOS came up with Measure W. It is important to voters to see how Duane thinks about this controversial ballot initiative. It is like phrase that has been used regarding some recent bills that went through Congress where they said something like, ‘you have to pass (the bill) before you can read what’s in it’. Duane seems to be saying you have to vote for me before you get to know how I feel about (whatever).
I was ‘encouraged’ to hear at the end of the interview that Duane said he thought it was unfortunate that people who were for Measure W were being influenced by the ‘fear factor’ mindset.

Liberals just love boycotts. Jon Smith is a perfect example of turning on someone he says he used to like and respect and do business with. Conservatives don’t so this crap like Smith is doing. But that is a major difference. He supports Heidi Hall even though she receives most of her money from outside the county and spends it outside the county and from people and organizations that seem to be pretty clandestine. Strawser get a donation from the Freedom people and he is now a pariah in Smith’s world. You can’t help stupid.

I don’t understand the whole bathroom-gay-fear thing. If a man goes into a women’s restroom…no urinals…so he goes into(his own) stall like the women…so, no flashy flashy of the man bits. I have never seen a man washing his unit in a public bathroom sink, so I doubt it would happen in a women’s bathroom either.
The whole controversy is a total joke.

Ask 8 women what they think of it. Its their bathroom, not ours, public or not. Ma wears the pants on this one and mamma ain’t too happy. It’s a woman thing. Plus a Father/Daughter thang, Mother/Daughter, Aunt, sister, Sis-in-law, and all the cousins and menfolk thang.
Grandma is putting the war paint on over this as I type. She is all fired up. Not me. It’s a gender issue. You ain’t gonna pee in Grandma’s Teepee. No way. Don’t even go there with Granny. It would be a suicide mission.

I guarantee you that anyone’s young son would be a hell of lot more uncomfortable seeing Caitlin Jenner in a dress, peeing in a urinal- than would my (or anyone’s) daughter would seeing Caitlin walk to the sink in heavy makeup and nice dress to puff her face. But, if one did, he sure would get a ribbing back in the Highland…or maybe requests for pictures. Those Low Landers do things different, but i assume they could walk into the women’s room anytime they were too drunk to care.
Kilts have zero to do with ease of relieving one’s bladder. zero.

We vote with our pocketbooks. It’s where the rubber meets the road, when money talks and BS talks.
I was thinking the exact same thing, Brad. I never dreamed it would be above 17 at this point, but, heck, they a big block and have been here for generations. So, it may make sense, thus maybe 31% in a few months. Plenty of time.
Time to buckle er up. Big turmulance ahead. They are sending out the media and boy is the media pissed. Seems the Clinton Machine is blaming the media for not stopping Trump. Add to that the New Yorker article about behind the scenes Ben Rhoads boasting and chuckling about playing those dumb gullible 28 year old WH reporters (that don’t know Diidley Squat about foreign policy in the first place and will believe Anything they are told)…..well, they are being smoked out now. Good to see the NYT back to its normal usual self. Next up: Rabit Horde of Establishment Media coming our way. And they want revenge for Trump leading them around in circles by the nose. They be wronged!
