The analogy between BHO labs and bathtub gin is perfect as are most aspects of the prohibitions of alcohols and marijuana.

‘Honey oil lab’ sounds a like a term that would be coined by law enforcement to scare the populous. In actuality, I don’t think MJ extraction is a whole lot more complex than an alcohol still. You are just trying to separate the THC/CBD from the ‘green matter’ with a suitable solvent. CO2 also works like butane but requires expensive equipment to do it right. It basically freezes the THC crystals so they break away from the plant and can be separated. The term ‘still’ would probably be more appropriate.
“Honey oil” was the term coined by those extracting and using the material. Appending “lab” on to the phrase describes that “chemistry” ,shoddy though it may be, is involved. Not exactly sure how this term is particularly “scary”?

Fish, I should have put quotes around ‘lab’. The term ‘lab’ implies something different compared to ‘still’. Does alcohol ‘lab’ sound appropriate for an operation conducted under a tree with some old pots and pans by some crackers in overalls? Honey oil kitchen?

Hmmmm…..when you describe it like this “lab” does sound slightly nefarious.
“Honey Oil Kitchen”….too homey…it conjures images of a warm and inviting place where Graham Crackers are baked. “Still” while similarly explosive is the wrong type of equipment.
A difficult marketing problem for the modern illicit substance manufacturer!

Bessee- For a “patriot” who says he wants government out of our lives you sure seem eager to press for laws, laws and more laws. I, for one, get kind of put out by your kind when I have to stand in line then sign affidavits so I can by a blister pack of Pseudophed. You want weed outlawed and now butane canisters. Since Pseudophed was regulated the cost of meth has dropped 50%. After all the laws against weed, it is more available, higher strength, and vastly cheaper than at any time in history. Prohibitionary laws don’t work. I buy several cases of butane bottles each fall for our duck club to heat pit blinds. I don’t want to jump through another jackass hoop your kind so desperately want to erect. Get the hell out of my life.

What makes butane particularly dangerous for household hash oil factories is that, like propane, it’s heavier than air and tends to collect inside the house. I know where the propane drain is through my home’s foundation… do you? Just another building code. Keeps a propane leak from filling the crawl space with an explosive mixture of propane and air.
If there isn’t forced ventilation through the house forcing any escaping butane outside and downhill, they’re courting some serious Darwin Award notoriety. Budding pot distillers, if they can’t do the right thing by not doing it in residential areas, should at least install a window swamp cooler in a bedroom window and pressurize the house with outside air, and make sure there is airflow from there to the room with the butane on the opposite side of the house, with a on open window or even better, a screen door, which could let the butane flow out of the house where it would dissipate, assuming it doesn’t just collect outside the house.
    Over time, Darwin generally wins.
Now, while I don’t believe in prohibition, making pot legal won’t be a ticket for local prosperity any more than the repeal of alcohol prohibition made moonshiners wealthy. Get set for Nevada County to become Appalachia West in the coming golden age for pot. We really would be better off were the growing culture as a stop for the Trimmigrant Underground Railroad, but prohibition is what brought it here and more prohibition will not make it go away.

I’m not sure desperation is an adequate term for what apparently has just happened. Cruz won’t be nominated…. not under the normal primary election rules as of last night and certainly not at a contested convention when the party hierarchy would certainly pick somebody more palatable to the established order….think Marco “Kid President” Rubio.
If Cruz is so determined to be chief executive he should have made his concession speech and skulked back to Texas to be any from the public eye for a while. The next prez is almost certain to be a one-termer and from a political standpoint Cruz is very young but his behavior over the last six weeks has been embarrassing from the breathy overly dramatic speeches to this empty gesture today.
Difficult to feel sorry for the guy.

fish, congratulations on figuring out what all Cruz’ Congressional colleagues figured out a few years ago. Drama and empty gestures- yup, that about sums up his tenure in the Senate as well. WTF- Carly Fiorina- was she going to energize more than a few of her friends and family? Unless Carly thinks this thing will recapture the lost political capitol and dignity, it remains simply a bizarre announcement. Trump will likely win the nomination after CA, making for a very uncomfortable convention with a huge swath of delegates having to fake enthusiasm. He’d have to figure out how to make every young voter, minority group, women demographic, and rational thinker stay home in November. Otherwise, toast for Hillary. ๐Ÿ™‚

George: Have seen this case from the Sixth Circuit? I am admittedly not paying attention to politics at all right now as work has been very busy. A fellow local attorney pointed this case out to me.
    https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/volokh-conspiracy/wp/2016/03/22/sixth-circuit-loses-patience-with-the-irs/
“Today, nearly 1,050 days since the start of the IRS scandal triggered by allegations that the IRS unlawfully and unethically targeted tea party and other conservative organizations for special scrutiny, the litigation continues. One allegedly targeted group brought suit against the IRS for its conduct, and the IRS has resisted the litigation with the same dilatory tactics that infuriated members of Congress.”
“In the latest development, a federal district court ordered the IRS to turn over information concerning groups that were subject to the mistreatment identified by the agencyโ€™s inspector general. The IRS didnโ€™t like this and is now seeking a writ of mandamus in order to avoid having to disclose more information. The U.S. Court of Appeals for the 6th Circuit is not amused.”

Its window to submit signatures ended last week. Alas it never even came close so now we will have the big tobacco 2.0 Parker full industrial commercialization of Recreational weed on the ballot. Ask the 26 of the first 31 municipal entities in CO who went full commercial and then reversed course how great that was for their home owners.
