[Tonight all four Repubs – Trump, Cruz, Rubio, Kasich – publicly pledged to support the Republican candidate who emerges from their convention.  That has got to take a load off some minds.  The innumerate liberals happily see no way how Trump now garnering 49% of Repub  primary voters, who are turning out in record numbers, prevail against the Dem candidate (Hillary in orange?) whose primary voters are setting records staying home.  And none of these same worthies understand the mood that has powered the candidacies of Trump and Sanders; for them the world is the same ol' same ol' with the Dem establishment ΓΌber alles.  gjr]

Trump is certainly no pretty boy politician I imagine Clinton’s head will likely explode under his attacks during a live debate, where she cannot hide. Ugly, but fascinating election, that reflects the reality show that America has become.

Timothy Taylor the Conversable Economist on unfunded liabilities:
In short, the reason why the unfunded liabilities of state and local pension funds are so much higher in 2016 than 30 years ago isn’t because the overall stock market performed poorly. Instead, it’s a grim story of mistiming the moves in the market (rather than just being steadily invested throughout), trying out alternative investments that didn’t pan out, not putting enough money aside in the first place, and overpromising what benefits could be paid. I have a lot of sympathy for the retirees and soon-to-be retirees who were depending on a pension from a state or local government, and are now finding that the money isn’t there to pay for the promises. But when blame gets assessed for this grim situation, it’s worth remembering that those who have been making the decisions about state and local pensions had a very favorable situation 30 years ago–that is, unfunded liabilities near zero, with a period of strong stock market growth over the next three decades coming up–and they messed it up.

Every government employee should be concerned: “I have a lot of sympathy for the retirees and soon-to-be retirees who were depending on a pension from a state or local government, and are now finding that the money isn’t there to pay for the promises.” This should be an item of discussion by our political leaders.

Have to say that the personal insults thrown around by the candidates about small hands wink, wink, hot yoga, spray tan, stiffs, losers, fraud, name calling, etc. remind me of the insults I have seen on this blog directed at Mr. Frisch and Mr. Pelline. Is that what passes for intellectual and emotional maturity in the Republican Party? They are turning America into the laughingstock of world politics. I read a lot about how bad Bernie, Hillary, and Obama are, but I am not hearing much criticism about the emotional maturity of the present and former Republican candidates.
If Trump wins the nomination, will the establishment Republicans be inclined to run a Rubio, Cruz et al. as an independent candidate? That would definitely give some credence to a three party system.
The Governator is going with Kasich – good call.

Well, the non-scandal has reached another rung up the ladder. Now we know for sure that the Justice Departmentl lawyers are on the case, the case is an criminal investigation, a Federal Judge has granted immunity to a participant, and a Federal Grand Jury has, is, or will be convened. Justice has not killed the case yet, which is a new level that the Obama “rule by degree” Administration has yet to go this far in years.
Still, nothing to see here, right? The non-scandal continues to grow into a bigger non-scandal. Now, did Hillary give the one granted immunity her passwords so he could transfer State Department secure correspondences to a private non secure server in her basement? Who else had her passwords? Boy, this might turn into a big, big, big non scandal.
“They” say there is no evidence of being hacked. Well, hackers don’t leave a sign saying what they viewed. And if foreign governments broke into her private non government server, we will never know the full extent of what was viewed. Nothing to see here, everyone is so eager to cooperate.

I like all this political theater. Good for the country. Funny how the “establishment” politicians are telling us all the details of their policies thinking we dolts don’t know they don’t followup when elected. And Trump does a gloss over and doesn’t give the “details”. Who is the bigger liar? Those that say they will do something and don’t or someone who says he will do something after we elect him/her?

Todd makes a valid point for a change.
You literally don’t know what you’re going to get if you vote for Trump, a man who has contributed more money to Democratic politicians than Republicans, who changes positions on issues as often as he changes wives, who has already backtracked on Planned Parenthood and waterboarding, and who will make sure the SEC doesn’t bother those Wall Street bankers who keep his business enterprises afloat.
It apparently didn’t occur to people who voted for a Republican Congress that they couldn’t reverse Obama’s initiatives unless they had a veto-proof majority in both houses. Instead, they just believed the BS all those Republican candidates for the House and Senate dished out. Talk about dumeth.

“Jobs came in well above expectations at 242,000 despite tax data collections that support a Job Growth estimate of 55,000 to 85,000. A quick dive into the details shows the report is a lot weaker than the headline number indicates. Of the 242,000 jobs added, 304,000 of them were part time. That means the economy actually shed 62,000 full-time jobs. Average hours worked declined as did average weekly earnings despite minimum wage hikes in numerous states at the beginning of the year.”

My guess is that overall Presidential job approval polls are as much a matter of luck as anything. If there’s a disaster going on (or war), they’ll get bumped up or down accordingly. The Obama administration is just ambling on into the sunset after stirring up an ant nest in the Middle East and kicking the financial can down the road. Answers to either of those problems are thin on the ground, so I can’t say that I blame him for staying mostly out of the line of fire and sticking to dabbling in a bit of diversity politics.
The interesting thing is the incredible split by party. Something like 82% of Democrats approve of Obama, 8% of Republicans. Both sides are becoming more radicalized over time.
From a couple of years ago:
    http://www.people-press.org/files/2014/06/6-12-2014-Political-Polarization-Release.pdf
It would be interesting to have a better understanding of the need for affiliation in either Team Red or Team Blue. Most of the yammering I hear about policy strikes me as just noise. When (and if) that flare goes up, most people will instinctively choose a side without much thought. That all assumes that a HAL-9000 isn’t running the whole works in 30 years of course.

Yep, this is real democracy at work. We are sorting it all out. Trump or Cruz? Cruz should take Maine and Kansas is devoid of independents. A two party only state is the Jayhawker State. This is fun!!
Hmm, Ted did call the Senate Majority a liar on the Senate Floor and also called Boner a liar, albeit not on the House floor. And he single handedly upset the applecart by reading Sam I Am on the Senate floor, much to ridicule of all insiders and pundits and jonnies. One man standing against the Rhinos. Not a bad runner up. Jon, be careful not to shot your wad on the walls this time. Use a cloth for Peter’s Sake. Think ahead, man.
Look at the forest. It’s going to be a long ugly ugly road to November and it’s only going to get uglier. The Clinton oligarchy machine will not allow her to be photographed in cuffs. That is why they have back doors to those Justice Department buildings and try negotiate a voluntary interview after the subpoena is issued. They love rewriting history.
Oh, this will get a lot uglier than either one of us can fathom. Just keep having fun and think ahead so you don’t have to keep cleaning your walls. A good Boy Scout is always prepared.
Quote of the day: (concerning immunity and interviews)

Oh Todd, Jon has made a valid point. Cracks in the armor? Of course!! Only a fool would expect any candidate to waltz through the primary process without getting bloodied and bruised along way. At least on the Right. That is how we do things. We fight for our candidate and know no such thing as a predetermined outcome. At least when there are solely non-incumbents battling it out.
Oh, tomorrow the Sunday news programs will be doing what they always do. They will be creating and reinforcing the tried and true storyline of a real horse race, a great white knuckler, a toe to toe knockdown drag out bare fisted Battle of the Century that is guaranteed to go 15 rounds. Boy, It’s a whole new ballgame!!! Oh goodie.
Now, the real question is can Trump possibility survive until a week from Tuesday when the rules change and it becomes winner takes all??? It may be a long shot to look out that far in advance, into March 15, but I got a feeling Trump will somehow manage to survive until them. No guarantee, mind you, that The Donald can even make it 10 days from tonight with all those cracks, lol.
Hey Large Cranium Jon, Trump has lost 5-6 caucuses. He had no boots on the ground and no organizations to speak of in caucus states. Not even a prepared speech or another 12 point 5 year Soviet Style Plan. He is doing kinda sorta ok just winging it. You can do that when you got your finger on the pulse of the Nation. But….here comes the big but….but what will happen when it’s all primary only winner take all big states like NY, FLA, and the true rust belt states of OH and Penn? Those same cracks will remain as scars from wounds in battle. This ain’t’ no Polly Anna sewing circle and neither Trump or Cruz work for the Red Cross. This is the blood sport of politics.
Can’t wait for Trump or Cruz to take on the unindicted rapist and his unindicted wife, the one who has violated the Espionage Act.
All will get bloodied and bruised and beat up in 2016. Even Chelsea only drew 75 people last week. Nobody escapes unbruised.
Cracks? You mean My Gal or did you mean her daughter that Mommie landed her a $600,000 part time job?? Or did you mean the Purple One who got detained at the airport for trying to sneak across 400 lbs of crack? Cracks? Like a progressive vertical smile? :). Oh my, Jon smells cracks.
