As a “relatively” new arrival to these threads I’m only familiar with a small subset of jeffys imaginary playmates. Annie, Bruiser one or two others……there are days I think “Jon” is screwy enough to be jeffy and others when “Jon” seems almost….well….semi-normal.
I will say this if “Jon” is jeffy he oughta stick with this personality as it’s far less annoying than his real persona.
I only wish I could have been here when jeffy was starring as “Gloria Zane”…..from what I hear his performances were Oscar worthy.

Some pushback against Obama’s ridiculous climate remarks at the Coast Guard commencement
By Paul C. “Chip” Knappenberger and Patrick J. Michaels
Did human-caused climate change lead to war in Syria?Based only on the mainstream press headlines, you almost certainly would think so.
Reading further into the articles where the case is laid out, a few caveats appear, but the chain of events seems strong.
The mechanism? An extreme drought in the Fertile Crescent region—one that a new study finds was made worse by human greenhouse gas emissions—added a spark to the tinderbox of tensions that had been amassing in Syria for a number of years under the Assad regime (including poor water management policies).
It is not until you dig pretty deep into the technical scientific literature, that you find out that the anthropogenic climate change impact on drought conditions in the Fertile Crescent is extremely minimal and tenuous—so much so that it is debatable as to whether it is detectable at all.
This is not to say that a strong and prolonged drought didn’t play some role in the Syria’s pre-war unrest—perhaps it did, perhaps it didn’t (a debate we leave up to folks much more qualified than we are on the topic)—but that the human-influenced climate change impact on the drought conditions was almost certainly too small to have mattered.
In other words, the violence would almost certainly have occurred anyway.

In fact a series of 80,000 year cycles that shifted to 40,000 year cycles and then there is the ice ages. Darn fish farts and brontosaurs burps!!

Global sea ice is NOT the same as arctic sea ice. We now have shipping lanes crossing over the arctic seas where historically ice breakers were required to punch through (if they could). The Antarctic sea ice is growing, ironically, because warmer temperatures are creating higher humidity over the land ice and the moisture laden air is being blown out to sea where it snows and cools the ocean surface which freezes. The thickness of this ice is very thin.

Arctic ice is almost entirely sea ice and is not disappearing. Antarctic ice exists around Antarctica and is at record levels. Here is another link showing polar sea ice separately:
    http://www.climate4you.com/images/NSIDC%20GlobalArcticAntarctic%20SeaIceArea.gif
The sky is not falling and the ice is not gone.
Perhaps if you’d offer a link or two describing the shipping lines you think the ice free Arctic is currently enabling, I’d be able to discuss your information with you. There have been a number of “the Northwest Passage will be ice free Real Soon” stories, but as of yet I’m not aware of a Titanic II making its way across it.

Did (human-caused) climate change lead to war in Syria? Let’s face it. Some human beings will use any excuse to destroy and kill other humans. There are lotsa of examples from barrooms to Congress. The earth will do what it wants regardless of the human bugs crawling around on its surface. When it wants a change it’ll shake, rattle and roll…and shed its old skin during the process of renewal. Hate to be a wet blanket…but come on, the earth’s proven history regarding all forms of change is more powerful than us. We usually get buried during the process.

    Perhaps there’s hope!
First from Rand Paul delaying at least the renewal of the misnamed Patriot Act:
PATRIOT Act on life support after Rand Paul stymies renewal efforts
Liberals, libertarians block short-term reauthorizations, leaving a tiny window of opportunity next week for a deal.

And the Dems and Tea party throwing a wrench in the TPP
“But a key crackdown on human trafficking survived the legislative jujitsu. The White House considers the provision a deal-breaker, as it would force one of the nations involved in the TPP talks — Malaysia — out of the agreement. An immigration-related amendment authored by Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) never got a vote, making it far more difficult for Obama to win over skeptical tea party Republicans in the House.”

Anyone have a clue as to what the Dept of Commerce $500K grant to NC’s Economic Resource Council is supposed to accomplish? Here’s the piece from County CEO Rick Haffey’s Friday report –
Congratulations to Nevada County Economic Resource Council (ERC) on being awarded the 2014 Science and Research Park Development Grant for $500,000! Below is the public announcement by the Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Economic Development.
Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Economic Development Jay Williams visited Rutgers University in New Brunswick, New Jersey, today to announce the 12 recipients of the 2014 Science and Research Park Development Grants, part of the Regional Innovation Strategies program. The Regional Innovation Strategies (RIS) program, which is being run by the Department’s Economic Development Administration’s (EDA) Office of Innovation and Entrepreneurship (OIE), is a new initiative designed to advance innovation and capacity-building activities in regions across the country through three different types of grants: i6 Challenge grants, Cluster Grants for Seed Capital Funds, and Science and Research Park Development Grants. Secretary Pritzker announced the recipients of the i6 Challenge grants and Cluster Grants for Seed Capital funds in March.
“Supporting innovators and entrepreneurs at every stage is crucial to ensuring America remains competitive in the global economy,” said Assistant Secretary Williams. “The Regional Innovation Strategies Program lays the groundwork from which centers of research and innovation can take root and thrive in cities across the country. I look forward to seeing what innovative opportunities come from Regional Innovation Strategies’ funding.”
The Science and Research Park Development Grants program provides funding for feasibility and planning for the construction of new or expanded science or research parks, or the renovation of existing facilities. The grantees include
    :
Nevada County Economic Resource Council Foundation, Inc.
    Location: Grass Valley, CA
Project Name: American Digital Media Leadership Campus
Program: Science & Research Park Development Grants
    Award Amount: $500,000
The American Digital Media Leadership Campus’s mission is to leverage a collaboration of all the critical stakeholders who collectively have the expertise, long standing relationships, and resources to build a globally competitive region that is focused upon providing innovative technologies to the rapidly growing, global digital media industry. By facilitating the transfer of technology and business skills between researchers and industry teams, the Campus will have an added benefit of strengthening California and U.S. economic competitiveness.
This public/private collaboration includes innovation-focused digital media and related technology companies residing within the region; local, state and federal governments, including national labs and world trade center organizations; higher educational institutions with research programs relevant to the digital media industry; a highly technical engineering workforce; angel investors and venture capitalists; a vast array of community organizations, vital broadband providers including one with an emerging gigabyte fiber-optic broadband network coming online; and a partnership with the regional EDA-recognized economic development district, Sierra Economic Development Corporation (SEDCORP).

George, 9:58am I’m surprised at your post about outside agitators being shipped into Ferguson without citing a source. I haven’t heard this anywhere else. While anything is possible, it does seem like a blantant attempt to shift the focus off the misbehavior by the police. The gov’t has infiltrated demonstrators ever since I can remember (most recently against Occupy Wall Street).
BTW, I have gone to protests in SF, Sacramento and Yuba recently. Does that make me an “outside agitator?”

Oh Patricia, you are indeed an outside agitator to those who think cannabis smells like marijuana which smells like skunk weed, you rabble rouser you.
Once joined in a protest on the street in front of a college cause the county was going to lop off all the pretty trees lining the road to widened the roadway. Boy oh boy, the grammar school next door joined in and one teacher was busy lifting little cute 1st and 2nd graders up into the lower limbs. The county workers got on the walkie-talkies and loaded up their saws and moved on….until Summer Vacation when they widened the road.
Not aware of police misconduct in Fergersen. Since “Hands Up, Don’t Shoot” never happened, I hope you did not buy one of those “Hands Up” tee shirts or hoodies. That would be silly, would it not? Perhaps a “Pants Up, Don’t Poop” tee shirt would be more app-pra-pro.

It sounds like more government money being pissed away for feel good projects that go nowhere (like the bullet train), or worse, do harm (like the ‘projects’ AB32 has spawned).
