Millionaire taxes on the rich don’t work.  Massachusetts tried that in 2023 and lost $4.2B in state revenues.  A large number of the rich just high-tailed it out of the state.  This is not reported in the lamestream media, so none of the Democrat voters know about it and will no doubt support the same stupid policies proposed by New York, Illinois, and California.  We must always keep in mind that it is the carefully conditioned ignorant liberal voter that votes for the sleazebags who come up with such insane pro-socialist public policies.

Trump is giving the Iranian ragheads five more days to open up the Strait of Hormuz, based on recently opened “good talks” with the regime.  The Iranians are denying that any such talks are ongoing.  In any case the markets went nuts this morning in hopes that the strait will soon be opened and the war ends.  The reality is that any talks with this regime will be as fruitless as they have been for the last almost 50 years.  The only acceptable end to the hostilities will come when the current regime is removed from power, and the Iranian people establish a new pro-western government.  Any other conclusion to the conflict will constitute a massive geo-strategic loss for the western countries and an unsurvivable political disaster for President Trump and his administration that will usher in the beginning of a socialist winter in the United States.

[24mar26 update]  Trump’s lead mid-east negotiators Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff should not be involved in any negotiations with Iran’s current regime of theocratic thugs.  Kushner and Witkoff have a good record negotiating with various Islamic parties who can be expected to keep their word in trust-but-verify agreements.  That cannot be said for the towelheads in Tehran who have been destabilizing the mid-east, lying and violating every agreement they have signed.  Trump’s using the Kushner/Witkoff team gives explicit and unwarranted credibility to the regime as being good-faith negotiators who share US/Israeli goals for a stable and prosperous region.  Such expectations expose our president’s continued naivete in negotiating with the likes tyrants such as Putin, Xi, Kim, and the Iranian theocrats.  There remains only one thing to negotiate – how the current thugs may be allowed to leave Iran in one piece.  Absent that, the clear alternative is that we kill them.  And to carry out such a negation requires substitution of one of our senior military hard-asses who can explain the matter to them with succinct clarity.  All other approaches will hasten President Trump’s political future as an obviously naïve post-election lame duck.

[26mar26 update]  “A very big present” claims President Trump that Iran has given the US re the Hormuz Strait.  Sadly, this characterization goes a long way to confirm that our fearless leader is often bamboozled when it comes to international affairs.  When a thief empties your house of valuables and then later returns some of the stolen loot, that cannot then be called a magnanimous ‘present’ from him.  He has merely returned some stuff that was already yours.  Any other portrayal of the act shows that the victim doesn’t understand what has just happened.  Iran letting a limited amount of shipping to pass through the strait again is now a “very big present” to the allies??!!  I think not, as we all hope that wiser heads in the administration agree and so advise.

It’ll be fun to watch the hullabaloo concerning any asset tax they cook up. Naturally, there’s no thought given to the side effects, but given that state and local government is run by Karens passing the talking stick in meeting rooms thinking up Good Ideas, you just never know what’ll happen.

Step 2 is cooking up clawbacks and retro-taxes as them evil billionaires, whose money largely keeps financial markets liquid rather than buying Ferraris and big deli sandwiches, hightail it to lower cost states.

You’d think my very favorite sort of billionaires, ex-wives and widows of real billionaires, would simply hand their fortunes over to po’ folks and the like rather than back insane progressive causes, but then they wouldn’t get invited to the good parties. I wonder if Laurene Jobs is planning on moving her residence to Florida if the “one-time” 5% tax hits. Gotta pay for all the administration surrounding healthcare for illegal aliens and the like ya know.

re: Iran…I haven’t kept track of it, and assume that any publicly available news is either wrong and/or incredibly incomplete, but I think the concept of killing off leadership is an interesting one. It’s a thing they understand, along with the concept of ‘hostage’, given the etymology of the word ‘assassin’. Ask me in ten years, if still living, on whether the whole adventure was a good idea or not. It’s one part a demonstration of Israeli political oomph in the US, one part a fear of giving a suicide cult The Bomb. These things don’t lend themselves to understanding via a paragraph or two or a thousand.

re: ‘Thug’…overused here. These ‘thugs’ are basically the way governments have always worked since agriculture or large steppe tribes got invented. The Anglosphere, soon to be overwhelmed by vibrancy, might have gotten off the wheel for a bit, but I don’t expect that to last much longer.

re RH – a noteworthy comment by a progressive who illustrates the Left’s belief that the spendthrift Democrats have not contributed to the national debt over the decades. For them our current financial state is all due to the advent of Trump. Such is the debilitating severity of TDS.

    From Ms. Hillbilly’s link:

“The U.S. government is insolvent. That’s not hyperbole — it’s the conclusion drawn directly from the Treasury Department’s own consolidated financial statements for fiscal year 2025, released last week to near-total media silence. The numbers: $6.06 trillion in total assets against $47.78 trillion in total liabilities as of September 30, 2025.”

What are the chances that the insolvency goes back decades and this is a non-story. 100%? Some greater amount? As usual, some gee-whiz thing trying to be painted on Trump. What on earth is wrong with people like Ms. Hillbilly? The sad thing is that a news organization picks up stuff like this because it makes good ragebait, probably rebroadcast on Daily Koz or something.

Per Grok: “The U.S. federal government’s consolidated financial statements (accrual-based, prepared under federal accounting standards) show that its liabilities have exceeded its assets—resulting in a negative net position—for at least the past 25+ years, and likely much longer based on available trends. This situation has persisted and worsened significantly over time.”

    re: rage bait

That’s when you know you are over the target. It’s like psul’s persistent polls (PPP). Meaningless, nothing unusual, makes a headline for people indulging in doom scrolling.

For me, I just ask two things of Trump…

    1. Remove every illegal alien from the country (and as an aside, gut the H1B program and it’s brethren).
    2. Kill DEI at every level accessible to the executive branch. No pervs in the military, make universities into meritocracies. Get drag queens away from the children. Hopefully shrink a bunch of .gov girl-jobs out of existence

That’s it. The rest of it, including a financial crash or war, is just business as usual. Those two things in my list are civilization killers, everything else is noise.

    “Way to go Trumpers!”

Proof of how completely ignorant RH is of our nation’s finances. We started going broke way back during the 1930’s when the Dems decided to “save” our nation with socialistic federal spending programs. You can go on all day about how whether or not the programs were needed but the fact of the matter is that you can never spend your way out of debt. High taxes on the wealthy won’t ever be enough. The die was cast long ago and plenty of people have been pointing out ever since I can remember that our nation was and is spending beyond our means. Emergency war-time austerity coupled with strict import controls and a populace willing to suffer for a generation or two might bring us out of the hole but sadly we are a DUH-MOCK-RACY and the idiots get to vote. And they’ll vote for an extra dose of what made our nation a sick fellow in the first place.

Looking long term – food, medicine, and energy will be the smart plays.

How do you account for the huge increase in our national debt under Reagan? During Reagan’s presidency, the federal debt held by the public nearly tripled in nominal terms, from $738 billion to $2.1 trillion.

    re: Reagan budget.

I went to the trouble to look it up instead of leaning back in the ol’ BarcaLounger and riling up people.

70% of the increase was interest on the debt and social programs that are basically sacrosanct (Medicare, SS, etc.). Per Google Gemini, SS roughly doubled in cost during the Reagan years (Seriously psul, you could stand to use the AIs that are out there instead of just learning things from Amy Goodman).

For anyone else listening, and not psul (who never researches or reads anything), I do have to wonder how much of the Western problem with budget is just simply lifespan. The amount of time people live after doing useful-things-for-a-living has been absurdly increased I think…and naturally everyone wants free healthcare, living income, nursing homes, after the age of 65.

If you’re a hippy, it’s easy to fall into the trap of wanting Elon Musk to write a check for your $12k/month memory care.

“How do you account for the huge increase in our national debt under Reagan?”

High interest rates to contain out of control inflation and increased defense spending to build up our military again. Reagan had no control over ever-increasing social program costs and the Dems refused to cut discretionary spending.

You need to learn to do “math”, Paul. Magically take away that “huge” 2.1T from our current debt and we still have an unsustainable debt problem. The debt problem started decades ago and the public won’t stand for a change of course. We have only gotten away with it so far because the American dollar is the world’s currency of choice. If that were to go away, we’d be done for in an instant. France and the US lead the world in wealth transfer. Our “poor” live like kings. We consume way more actual value than we produce.

Just a lazy set of statements without understanding. The bummer is having bar stool pontificating on the radio.

The fedgov is too hard to understand in any case I think. Better to take something smaller and really dig. Watching the budget at a local public school, hospital, or county department over a few decades is a thing a person could dig their teeth into. Take the metastasizing there and multiply by a large number and you might get part of the answer.

Hey RH – didja go out and stomp around on No Kings Day? At the capitol in Boise they had a great show of lefties and Dem bobble-heads. Great quotes:

“We won’t take the assault on working-class families and constitutional rights.”

Not one single example given, of course.

“I’d like to see is less arrests by ICE or at least less illegal arrests in courthouses and trying to trick people into opening their doors and random times of the day.”

OK – how many less? What is illegal about arresting people at court houses? And those darn crafty ICE folks tricking people at random times – the police should always mail written notices first!

The winner – “To me, ‘no kings’ means that the people get to decide … not one person in power,” said Jaymie, a Kuna resident.”

The “people” did decide – we voted and Trump won.

“Not one person in power”? So – no executive branch? Say what?

Well – it was a sunny day and everyone there “felt” better about themselves afterwards.

Not one of these idiots thought about the fact that if we actually had a despotic king they’d all be mowed down with machine gun fire. Y’know – like in Iran.

I just had to hold my head today. From the mandatory The Union Trump diatribe dujour.

“Some 25 years ago, I stood at the entrance of the Cologne Cathedral. On the left side there was a large plaque attached to the wall. It was a photograph, no text, and as far as you could see was rubble caused by the Allied bombing in WWII. In the middle of that destruction stood the cathedral, alone, untouched. It spoke volumes about those who conducted the bombing.

Somewhere up the chain of command the decision was made to preserve, as much as possible, sites of historical, cultural or religious importance. Instruments were not nearly so accurate 80 years ago as they are today so it must have taken a tremendous amount of planning and skill to carry out those orders.”

roflmao. Is there someone who actually believes that? Where do they find these people?

Do a simple search on the matter old son.

    A big present…

“Also on September 23 DeSantis announced that the following week the board of trustees of Florida’s Internal Improvement Trust Fund would vote to convey the deed it had just acquired from Miami Dade College to the foundation responsible for creating the Donald J. Trump Presidential Library.

You will be shocked to learn that the board—composed of the governor, the state attorney general, the state CFO, and the commissioner of agriculture—voted a hearty Yes, sir to giving Trump the land. They had tears in their eyes. Allegedly.

The assessed value of the land “donated” by Miami Dade College was $67 million.² The fair market value is almost certainly in the low- to mid-nine-figures.

Trump’s foundation paid a nominal fee of $10 for the parcel. They simply yoinked it from the unfortunate saps at the college who happened to be sitting on the real estate the president wanted.³

The vice chair of the college’s board of trustees, Roberto Alonso, limply portrayed the shakedown as a boon to education: “I think this is a further expansion of an educational facility because presidential libraries are places where you can go and research,” Alonso said.”

Millionaire taxes on the rich don’t work

Au contraire – just talking about them generates millions of votes. Anyway – we’re talking billionaires now that Bernie is a millionaire. Bernie wants to take about 4.4 trillion over the next 10 years from less than a thousand Americans. Of course they don’t have the money, but who cares about that? Because Bernie is promising that he’ll hand the money out to you voters because that’s what’s FAIR!

Ha ha – RH suddenly wants to worry about the natl debt. And what does he think Trump should do about it? RH doesn’t have a damn clue. And as soon as the Dems are running the show and the debt totally explodes, he’ll just blame it on Trump. Sorry RH – as a lefty who champions socialism, you complaining about the debt is a complete joke.

What was the increase with Biden? About the same? But that was GOOD debt and Trump’s is BAD debt.

I have already explained the situation with our national debt multiple times here and RH and Paul refuse to acknowledge the basic problem. It just becomes an issue with them when some one they don’t like is in office.

Lets look at facts about states and cities that the Dems run vs the states and cities that the Rs run – oops – yeah – RH doesn’t want to go there.
