[Low cost vs affordable housing is available in the re-introduction of ‘carriage houses’. The folks in Noblesville, Indiana are discovering that “these units cost considerably less than single-family dwellings and create accessible points into and out of homeownership while preserving neighborhood character. They also have the potential to provide rental income to help property owners afford their mortgages. Few cities and towns are immune from rising material costs and expensive land. But we control zoning and permitting. We should expand housing options without compromising community character.” gjr]

No surprise there. When they riot and hold foreign flags it really looks like an invasion to most of the country –
A protest in San Antonio was attended by more than 300 people who were angry with the latest Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) mass deportation enforcement actions. The rally was organized by the Party for Socialism and Liberation. This political party also organized and rallied leftist activists to resist the Trump administration’s efforts to enforce immigration law in Los Angeles.
As tourists and motorists passed city hall, chants, some vulgar, were shouted that included “F- ICE”, “From Palestine to Mexico, all walls have to go,” and “Up, up with liberation, down, down with deportation.” Many attendees waved Mexican flags, Palestinian, and Trans flags to show their allegiance to multiple left-leaning causes. Signs carried were printed with profane messages directed at President Trump and Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers.
Breitbart Texas noted the signs provided and carried by PSL members in San Antonio were identical to those held by PSL members in the Los Angeles demonstrations. The crowd dissipated after several hours and did not involve any acts of violence like those witnessed in Los Angeles. Although San Antonio Police officers were posted nearby, no significant interaction took place between officers and the protesters.

I’m not sure what that means. Who is ‘they’?
If typepad search worked, which it doesn’t being the world’s worst software, I’d bring up some of your old quotes on how immigration law should be enforced. But that was some time ago, no doubt everyone ‘evolves’.
Reversing years (decades) of ignoring immigration law is bound to be a clumsy thing, and I’m fine with shocks to the system. By cramming in infinite people, few of whom are from US-adjacent cultures, all that eventually happens is Balkanization and collapse. Somalians have done nothing to make Minnesota a better place and H1B Indians are very rarely better (or the same) as the people they replace. Period. In the case of California, all that happens is that the border moves north.
Trump is basically the immune system of Western Civilization kicking in, and I don’t expect perfection. This is not just reflected in the long-needed repatriation of people, but the ability to produce goods, for people to perform real work for a living, improvements in education, and the casting aside of DEI-obsessed baby boomers.
The economy will be fine, and altered in ways that have nothing to do with mass immigration from the 3rd World. AI/robotics/automation will blow up everyone’s world soon enough. The problem is essentially one of social glue and assimilation.

Ya between the fire failures and now this have to agree the hair gel is on fire –
“Gavin Newsom’s odds of clinching the 2028 presidential race are practically nonexistent,” X user Angela Belcamino posted Monday. “Across the country, Americans are eyeing California’s struggles under his watch, convinced he’d unleash the same chaos nationwide if he ever won the White House.”
“Gavin Newsom’s handling of the LA riots should be considered an in-kind contribution to the @JDVance
2028 presidential campaign. Newsom is providing a lot of ad material for free,” one social media account posted on Sunday.
Many critics of the riots unfolding in Los Angeles argued that photos of the scene would live in infamy and dash any hopes Newsom may hold on running for president. Some users remarked that the photos depicting rioters surrounded by flames and smoke while waving a Mexican flag “will cost Newsom his 2028 presidential run,” and that the Trump administration “couldn’t have asked for better” representation of California politics captured in photos.
“Gavin Newsom is refusing to help stop the riots AND denying their existence because he bows to open borders donors… hoping they’ll fund his 2028 Presidential run. Do not forget this!,” Club for Growth senior analyst Andrew Follett posted to X, accompanied by a photo showing a rioter with a Mexican flag on a motorbike as smoke billowed behind him.
“Gavin Newsom 2028,” DC Draino, a popular conservative X account, posted accompanied by a photo of a pair of masked rioters standing on a destroyed car waving the Mexican flag.
“Let’s evaluate this, Gav. First… devastating fires due to you and your state’s negligence. Second, riots… once again due to your love for illegals, sanctuary cities, etc. Your aspirations for 2028 have gone up in the flames you are responsible for

The Marines deal, which happened before during the mostly peaceful Rodney King riots, is likely just someone being cautious. Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar.
My own fringe belief is that it’ll go like so. (1)Stick a bunch of federal forces in the city (2)Use them mostly/all for protecting federal buildings and agents. (3)Let the city burn. (4)Wait for the Governor or that idiot mayor to beg for help.
In terms of Ukraine, Russia won’t allow itself to be defeated in the field, and running the whole thing at parity just implies more death. Dunno why US liberal baby boomers have so much invested in the situation, armchair generals one and all. It’s obvious where the border will end up, so just do it.
