LA is too far gone to save, exhibit 1 –
Notably, the budget cuts $36.63 million from the Los Angeles Fire Department’s proposed budget and reduces new police hiring in half from 480 new recruits to 230. At the same time, it restores funding for Animal Services and creates a new Bureau of Homelessness Oversight under the Los Angeles Housing Department.
Councilwoman Traci Park, whose district stretches from the Los Angeles International Airport to the fire-demolished Pacific Palisades, questioned the city’s continued funding of the Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority, which has failed all recent audits and from which Los Angeles County recently voted to terminate its funding and relationship.
“Spending a million and a half dollars per door to build micro-units of housing to give away to homeless drug addicts when the vast majority of our own city employees could never afford a condo at that price … I don’t think we should agree to spend another penny on homelessness … until we cast a vote on whether we’re finally getting a divorce from LAHSA and what the future of homeless services delivery looks like in LA,” said Park at Thursday’s meeting.

During testimony before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee on Tuesday, the top diplomat revealed that the White House discovered a foreign aid regime that was distracted and inefficient.
Only 12 cents of every dollar spent by USAID reached recipients.
“That means that in order for us to get aid to somebody, we had to spend all this other money supporting this foreign aid industrial complex,” Rubio said, per a State Department transcript.
In other words, while a mere 12 cents went to recipients, the other 88 cents was pocketed by third parties.

Police got scared when, after they failed to quickly issue information on the perps, the people provided their own updates. How dare they!
This was a controlled parade, with plenty of police watching over. Evidently, Brit traffic-control-during-parading gets a D-. No deaths yet.

Spin this MAGA Goobers,

Scott Jenkins, the former sheriff of Culpeper County, Virginia, was set to report to jail today. He’d been convicted in December 2024 by a jury of his peers on one count of conspiracy, four counts of honest services fraud, and seven counts of bribery. Jenkins had accepted more than $75,000 in bribes in exchange for appointing various untrained and unvetted individuals to no-show jobs as auxiliary deputy sheriffs. The evidence was overwhelming, including video of Jenkins accepting bags of cash, the testimony of some of those involved in the scheme, and reports from two undercover FBI agents. In March 2025, Jenkins was sentenced to 10 years in federal prison.
“Scott Jenkins violated his oath of office and the faith the citizens of Culpeper County placed in him when he engaged in a cash-for-badges scheme,” acting United States Attorney Zachary T. Lee said at the time of his sentencing.
But Jenkins was a rabidly anti-immigrant, pro-Trump sheriff who’d become a minor celebrity in MAGA world. Trump himself may not have known of him, but Ed Martin did. Martin, you’ll recall, was made Attorney General Pam Bondi’s chief pardon attorney at the Department of Justice after failing to get Senate confirmation as U.S. attorney for the District of Columbia. Martin celebrated his achievement just after the pardon: “Thank you, President Trump! I am thrilled that Sheriff Jenkins is the first pardon since I became your Pardon Attorney.”

Martin stated, “I am, Ed Martin, as pardon attorney, looking at it. I’m looking at it very closely. … I think it’s very clear that it was a drug overdose, and it’s very clear that Derek Chauvin is not a saint, but neither am I. … The question is, whether there’s a role to be played for a commutation or pardon, and, more importantly, whether the system — the system of justice has to be checked every now and then for fairness. It’s not only mercy on someone, it’s, when you — I watched that trial. And that was not a fair trial.”

Its over for the woke budgets and future governors will be hamstrung from the start. Time to stop spending billions on illegals? –
The LAO’s report, quietly released on Saturday of Memorial Day weekend, forecasts “persistent future deficits,” even after accounting for California Gov. Gavin Newsom’s May budget revisions to address a $12 billion budget shortfall. The report indicates that would leave the state’s next governor with a growing, non-recessionary, structural state treasury crisis.
Among the “least disruptive” solutions rapidly becoming exhausted are “reducing one-time and temporary spending, drawing down reserves, and increasing borrowing.”
“To balance the budget going forward, the Legislature will likely need to adopt additional solutions that increase ongoing revenues or reduce ongoing spending — both of which involve the most difficult and consequential trade-offs for policymakers,” wrote the LAO.
The office also noted that the state is relying on borrowing, as it did during the Great Recession, to pay for regular services, which will put further pressure on future budgets — and California’s next governor after Newsom.

Naturally he didn’t. It’s easy to find scads of people with far lower penalties for more heinous crimes, plus there’s the whole business of fault, SOP training, the whole business of not being able to breathe before extraction from the car, etc. Most of the problem here is where it occurred and the race of the deceased.
The video of the Mayor weeping at the Golden Coffin tells you all you need to know about the law vs. the Jacobin need for political prisoners. While the insanity is largely a boomer problem, any serious course correction will either require a long-term ageing out or some sort of kinetic high jinks.

A free Israeli hostage recently told CNN that his Hamas captives treated him noticeably better when the new broke that Donald Trump won the election.
CNN anchor Bianna Golodryga on Wednesday posted clips of her sit-down interview with Omer Shem Tov, who spent 505 days in captivity before being freed. Shem Tov lost more than 50 pounds during that time as he claimed he was intentionally starved and forced to survive on “one biscuit and salty water a day.”
During the interview, Shem Tov also explained why members of Hamas were allegedly rooting for Kamala Harris to win the presidency:
SHEM TOV: Yes, it’s him. He got me out. He got the hostages out. Before we we felt like nothing is happening; I remember there, for me there, ever since he came into into the road, they were very scared of him. They wanted–
GOLODRYGA: Who?
SHEM TOV: Terrorists.
GOLODRYGA: Were afraid of Trump?
SHEM TOV: Yeah. They wanted Kamala to be chosen.
GOLODRYGA: You talked politics with them?
SHEM TOV: Yeah, yeah, yeah. They wanted Kamala to be elected; but as soon as Donald Trump was elected, they understood that he wants to bring the hostages back home. So, immediately the way they treated me changed. So if it’s the amount of food — I can say this, that when Trump became president, the way they treated us changed — for me, personally. This is what I felt.
