   I see reports that an intelligence agency has come to the conclusion that COVID-2019 came from a virology lab.
   Wow.
   I came to that conlusion in early 2020 and wrote a completely supportable comment on The Union pages, only to have it removed entirely by The Union staff. They were following the lead of our federales to quash misinformation.
   The editor who did that is no longer there but no matter… they knew I was right then and there.

   In the Quinnipiac poll released on Wednesday, 31 percent of voters have a favorable view of the Democratic Party, compared to 57 percent holding an unfavorable view.
   “This is the highest percentage of voters having an unfavorable opinion of the Democratic Party since the Quinnipiac University Poll began asking this question,” the poll notes.
   The poll shows that 22 percent of independent voters have a favorable opinion of the Democratic Party, versus 59 percent having an unfavorable view. Men have a 22 percent favorable view, versus 67 with an unfavorable view, while 39 percent of women have a favorable view of the party compared to 47 percent having an unfavorable view.

    “More than 30 bodies recovered from Potomac River, two sources say” from collision last night at Reagan airport in DC of Bombardier (60) & a Black Hawk helo (3 on board).
    So, let’s see if the ATC folks (you know, the ones who are dwarfs, partially paralyzed…) from the Biden admin might be responsible.
    Just listening now to CNBC – evidently the guy talking didn’t get any useful information from ATC or control tower. So neither plane had radar, or working anti-collision, or ATC was not looking.
    Guy on CNBC just said when a flight gets closer (how close – I don’t know) to ground, the anti-collision doesn’t function quite as well due to ground interference. But ATC in the tower should have a way of seeing this.

    CNBC showed video of the collision (looks like from ~1-mile away, probably from near the control tower. Probably no survivors, 9 hours ago, water temp=32F. American Airlines plane was on final. Evidently, Black Hawks & other helos are as common as flocks of birds near DCA.
    Correction – There is no audio warning from anti-col at low altitude; but still should be video on the monitor in the cockpit. ‘Yeah co-pilot, we’re at 200-ft AGL, 30 sec. from touchdown, let’s watch that You Tube video.’
    Wait for the NTSB report 6 months from now. If ATC had ANYTHING to do with it, maybe they’ll be held accountable by the Trump admin.

    All eyes in the helo should have been focused outside, not on the panel.
    ATC called out the traffic to the helo and directed them to pass behind the passenger jet on final. I expect they didn’t see the jet they’d been on a collision course with which would have been a stationary bright light to them.

    Isn’t a stationary “anything” (either straight ahead or in the periphery) in the flight environment supposed to be a warning. A pretty glaring one too if I recall correctly!

    First, a correction… the helo would have seen a stationary dim light as the landing lights of the jet would have not been aimed at them.
    The spot on the runway you are going to land on is the spot that is stationary.
    The airliner was blameless, they were where they were supposed to be.

    The lawsuit represents nearly 1,000 individuals who went to school to become air traffic controllers . They passed the normal test to obtain the position right before the Obama administration said the class was too white and threw out the tests with the applicants, the suit alleges.
    Former Nevada Attorney General Adam Laxalt, who serves as co-counsel for Mountain States Legal Foundation, based in Colorado, is leading efforts for a lawsuit.
    “When you travel and have a delay, it’s because there aren’t enough of these people,” Laxalt told the Wall Street Journal last year. “When you see these near incidents in air traffic control, it’s because there aren’t enough people. There are only 14,000 air traffic controllers. A thousand were scrapped a decade ago, and the bottom line is they’ve never made up losing all of this pipeline.”

    The cat that was flying the helo in question was flying too high… the maps of the area that define the route bypassing the airport specify the helos are to fly no higher than 200′ above ground (or water). Meaning 201ft will get the pilot into trouble with the FAA.
    More likely, they’d be trying to keep level flight at 150′ to avoid the FAA nastygram.

    Well, finally, new research into the 3-year-old China Eastern fight MU5735 Boeing 737-800 crash in SE China. It’s too bad the Chinese never found the 2 black boxes from that accident. Word on the street is the boxes have been buried in the bowels of the FAA/NTSB basement. It’s odd that the Chinese wouldn’t have looked there as the 44th-likeliest place for the boxes by this time. Final report to be issued “soon”.

    Evidently, even Chinese PhD students are in need of new areas for papers. They used 3-D data from a seismograph, located about 13 miles from the crash site. Concluded the plane was traveling 200-264 m/s (450-590 mph) on impact. My cat already came up with the same number in 2022, by analyzing the plane plummeting straight down off the video. Yeah, yeah I said to her at the time – 1 body length, 4 frames, whatever.
    The authors concluded that their results were “…providing valuable insights into the circumstances surrounding the crash.”
    Unfortunately, they weren’t insightful enough to conclude if any of the pilots had his hands pressed hard-up on the left throttle and the control column.
    When asked if the CCP fellows were “helpful” while performing their research, Yong Zhang replied “I can’t complain”.
    Maybe Trump can bug the FAA to get the report for this China flight released, before the one for the “No Miracle on the Potomac” that just occurred.
