Just as you don’t find eagles living in the ocean or fish living on mountain tops, so you don’t find leftists concentrated where their ideas have to stand the test of performance.  Thomas Sowell

George Rebane

RLCrabb240928The appearance of the enthusiastic MAGA proponent Laura Loomis at tonight’s Republican fund raiser dinner continues to draw fire from our local Left.  I reported on the onset of this firestorm of censorship in the previous Scattershots (here).  More should be said as the howls from our socialist neighbors continue unabated.  In today’s 28sep24 Union we have a double header in the form of a letter from Grass Valley resident Jacob Kolb (here), and a pile on from local leftwing cartoonist Bob Crabb shown nearby.

Mr Kolb goes on to advise our Board of Supervisors to get into the fray by “publicly affirming” that the Board “does not endorse Loomer’s rhetoric, showing that we understand the dangers of misinformation.”  In the process our county government should promote “truth and inclusivity” by opposing “political factions” that “represent a small minority.”  Oh my, does that not put an additional burden on our elected leaders to now become the arbiter and would be censors of what they consider “misinformation and hate speech” by their constituents?

If such declarations become a new standard of proscribing political speech for the BoS, then by extending Kolb’s logic should not ALL Democrat public pronouncements also be greeted with “strong messages” against “harmful ideologies” as assessed by our so-called non-partisan elected leaders?  Every Democrat who opens their mouth on a public podium repeats their egregious lies about ‘secure borders’, ‘Russia, Russia, Russia’, Hunter’s laptop hoax, Trump’s inflation legacy, the glories of Bidenomics, criminality of illegal aliens (see recent release of  Dem cover-up here, here, and here), and on and on.

Kolb begins his letter with the Voltaire misattribution, “I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it.”  From the Left’s outcry of the last few days, it is clear their willingness to die is at best a one-sided commitment.

[1oct24 update]  The more desperate minions of the local Left took it up another notch on letting everyone know that they are a post-constitutional bunch cum mob demanding the silencing of voices with which they disagree.  The 1oct24 Union features a pictorial under the heading ‘Crowds gather to protest Loomer visit’ (here).  The local Republican Party turned tail and ran, moving the Loomis speaking event to an undisclosed location.  Their ‘duck and cover’ policy missed a perfect opportunity to highlight the planned demonstration by the mini-minded to once more illustrate that the Left opposes the First Amendment, among others.  And to put a ribbon on it, our indefatigable leftwing columnist George Boardman must needs add his shoulder to the wheel on the matter (here).  Perhaps the BoS can settle such future vetting problems by establishing the Nevada County Commissariat on Public Speakers.

You give the left too much credit – they wouldn’t so much as suffer a bruised shin to protect anybody’s free speech. We notice on this blog they’re too cowardly to even answer questions.

Fortunately, the location of the meeting is not mentioned and the folks getting riled up won’t be tempted with demonstrating their horror.y
I’m sure Loomer was not #1 on the local GOP’s druthers for the headliner of this fundraiser… but Loomer was probably the best they could get at a price they could afford. So why does Crabbman and Kolb have their panties in a knot over it?

The left is as intolerant as ever. When your world view is based on ignorance and prejudice, any other view is a threat. Note the recent comedy at Bezerk-ley – the leftists protesters ended up arguing with each other:

lol, I see George R. did nothing to refute or fact check the opinions of anyone who thinks Loony Loomer is a publicity-seeking asshole, much like Trump.
Instead he pivots in an attempt to distract us with the opinion of one Mr. Kolb who who sounds like he probably approved of Nevada City’s waste of $30k on a feel good “Plea for Peace” letter to Batshit BeBe.
Based on the number of missles flying in the MidEast today, I would ask the conflict resolutionists on the City Council – how well is that working for you?

Euthanised Hillbilly – “I see George R. did nothing to refute or fact check the opinions of anyone who thinks Loony Loomer is a publicity-seeking asshole…”
Because that wasn’t his point, moron.
He was pointing out the left’s attitude of how the left should be able to dictate who gets to speak and who doesn’t. If Harris or Walz came to my town to speak I wouldn’t for one nano-second think they shouldn’t be allowed to despite the poisonous lies and hateful BS they spew. They have that right.

Actually – the Hillbilly might also consider that neither he/her nor Paul has ever fact-checked or refuted that Harris is a complete idiot who can’t even formulate an intelligent sentence and that Walz is a serial liar about his accomplishments and resume.
    It’s always:

ScottO 1025pm – Thanks for replying to Hillbilly’s 421pm – you beat me to it. I was going to point out that our liberal readers more often than not miss the points of my posts and many of the readers’ comments. This has been going on for years and continues to illustrate the intellectual deficits suffered by our progressive constituency. For this reason alone I heartily welcome liberal readers and commenters on these pages. The ongoing exhibition of their beliefs and worldviews should be a constant reminder of how and why we have so many neo-Marxist majorities in the elected bodies across our land. There is no ready solution to this problem – embedded dumbth is irreversible.

    No one.
You knew the Dem party in Nevada County remained silent while there were public calls to not allow a Republican to speak at an event. Instead of being “annoyed” at this – you joined the left in piling on.

Lol. Pretty sure there is video of it. I am told that was it was pretty run of the mill populist material. You know like we need to prioritize our citizens, like in North Carolina, over illegal immigrants. You know, like America but taking care of Americans. I am also told she eviscerates those who seek to censor free speech – our most precise and fundamental right. Censorship stifles ideas and creativity and flies in the face of our founding culture. But I do get it, George. You actually wrote an entire opinionated article bashing the local Republican party for inviting Loomer, and when your publisher, The Union, does a news article down the middle, it exposes your leftist progressive flank. Let’s just call a spade a spade.

In addition, now that I have your attention, the rhetorical structure of your article demonstrates its serious flaws. You attempt to discredit all that Loomer says based on a couple of unrelated things which not all people agree with. I can assert that the word is flat, that the Sun rotates around it, and that bleeding cures disease. I can also say that two plus two equals four. As I may be dead wrong about a vast many things, truth is truth regardless of the speaker.
It seemingly has become acceptable in our culture and in our politics to argue in this ignorant manner, and it is looked at “being smart.” I don’t think that 9/11 was an inside job. I have seen some circumstantial evidence in the form of many of the hijackers had been on the feds radar and had been contacted by them, but I don’t think that gets me personally to concluding that it was an inside job. It may for some, but it is not a huge, massive leap for someone who distrusts government. That said, Loomer also asserts that our culture and politics must respect the first amendment and all its protections above all else. The 20th century taught us well, that the people trying to limit speech are always…always…the bad guys. While Loomer’s opinion about 9/11 is subject to criticism, her denunciation of censorship in our culture should be a well-established global fact and much the spherical shape of the Earth.

    You don’t get it, Pruett.
A careful reading of the entire article indicates that Boll-See wasn’t present to hear Loomer speak, and relied on Freedle for the information in the article. This should have been made clear near the top of the article, then readers could decide for themselves who–or what–they want to believe.
As for Goodknight’s questions: You’ll have to ask somebody else. My involvement is limited to contributing two or three columns a month. I am not involved in the writing, reporting or editing of anything else that goes in the paper.

It was clear. You would have to be a moron not to know that Fran relayed what Loomer said. The article so states when it says, “said Fran Freedle.” Are you that bad of a reader?
What about this question? Why did all the letter writers, the speakers at the BOS, and you not disclose that the agitators are all professional activists? George, you are way out on a ledge here. You smeared a free speech advocate. You published information from people who called for a panel in Nevada County to regulate speech. It is crazy. It would be a shame if the video came out and proved you all to be liars and censors.
