Here is an example of gross ignorance that begets the evil in our land.  This letter to the editor by a rabid leftwinger in the 6dec23 Union illustrates the historical gulf that separates us into two nations with irreconcilable ideologies.  The correspondent does not make a single assertion that speaks truth – where/when did Trump do anything that he claims?  And he is joined by tens of millions of like- and no-minded Americans.

&&&&&&

Let’s refresh our memories on what Trump said last week in a speech:  “We pledge to you that we will root out the Communists, Marxists, fascists, and the radical-left thugs that live like vermin within the confines of our country—that lie and steal and cheat on elections. They’ll do anything, whether legally or illegally, to destroy America and to destroy the American dream. The threat from outside forces is far less sinister, dangerous, and grave than the threat from within. Our threat is from within.”

We will never vote for Trump because he and his MAGA extremists want to dump American democracy, dump “We-the-People” pluralism, and replace it with white Christian nationalism implemented by their authoritarian cult leader. It's dangerous and un-American.

Trump’s disastrous presidency can be summarized with these 9 acts:

  • passing huge wealthy and corporate tax cuts (pushing us 8 trillion $ further in debt),
  • separating children from their parents at the border,
  • basically ignoring covid,
  • appointing unqualified ideologues to the Supreme Court and lower benches,
  • damaging our global alliances, especially with NATO,
  • promoting hatred against minorities, especially Blacks, Mexicans, Muslims, LGTBQ,
  • attacking democracy through gerrymandering and suppressing votes,
  • attacking women’s reproductive freedoms, and
  • promoting an insurrection on January 6.

Will our election be safe from the GOP’s cheating and intimidation? Will Trump’s 91 felony counts assure us his dictatorial ambitions will not come to light?

Voters' memories will need to be refreshed.

Well – Bobby of Nevada City seems to be well versed in all of the Dem talking points. They are part of the “narrative” and don’t have to be literally true, you understand.
Calling for him to provide proof of these contentions would just be another example of white male colonizing attitudes aimed at denying Mr Gould’s lived experiences.
    Doncha know.
If you think Zir Gould is a bit off in the reality department, check out these 3 persons having a difficult time denouncing “calling for the genocide of Jews”:
    https://www.powerlineblog.com/archives/2023/12/harvard-mit-and-penn-take-a-position-on-genocide.php
One of them said it was “context dependent” and another said it was only against the rules if the speech turned to action.

Robert Goa’uld, you are in need of professional help.
The huge corporate tax cuts helped us, being heavily invested in stocks in a 401k. Corporations are tax collectors, not tax payers.
Kids need to be separated from their parents when parents are taken into custody.
Not one ideologue was appointed by Trump to the Supremes.
Our NATO allies were shamed into coughing up their share of the expenses.
“Promoting hatred against minorities…” ? Hardly.
“Attacking women’s reproductive freedoms”? No, he didn’t. Roe v Wade was a kitten that needed to be drowned, and it was. California retained women’s rights to kill their unborn children until birth, and other states went more to Goa’uld’s liking.
“Promoting an insurrection on January 6”. You call that an insurrection? Everyone left their guns at home. What kind of an insurrection is that?
    Death to the jacobins!

The funniest part of the Dems narrative that Trump wanted to incite an insurrection is the unquestioned fact that Trump offered fed troops to guard the place and was turned down. We all know that bank robbers planning a heist warn the folks in advance to have extra guards on hand for the special day.
    Right?

Not right Scott. Show me documentation to verify your 5:28.
CLAIM: Former President Donald Trump signed an order to deploy 20,000 National Guard troops before his supporters stormed the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, but was stopped by the House sergeant at arms, at the behest of Speaker Nancy Pelosi.
AP’S ASSESSMENT: False. While Trump was involved in discussions in the days prior to Jan. 6 about the National Guard response, he issued no such order before or during the rioting. Speaker Pelosi does not control National Guard troops.

Well – Ignorance or Evil – you be the judge.
Lawrence O’Donnell quotes Liz Cheney as claiming that all the Republicans in the House refer to Trump as “Orange Jesus” and “follow his every command religiously”.
I don’t know O’Donnell personally so I have no idea if he even starts to believe such bilge but seeing how MSNBC loves to trot out House Rs that clearly don’t fit this narrative, ole’ Larrys got some splainin’ to do.

OK – so the problem here is that I used the word Trump and then a word that started with “o” – so Paul decided that any word that started with “o” would suffice.
    Trump “ordained”
    or
    Trump “offloaded”
    or
    Trump “optioned”
I said Trump “offered” – and Paul chose the word “ordered”.
I can then decide to use the word “offal” and demand that Paul prove that Trump “offaled” fed troops to the capitol.
Ball is now in his court.

Can you document the offer you claim Trump made to Pelosi and when it was done? There should be a quote from Trump and a date he made it. His own Secretary of defense deny’s that Trump made an offer.
This is what we know. Trump never made a request to Pelosi. From my link:
“Trump did say during a 30-second call on Jan. 5 with then Acting Secretary of Defense Christopher Miller that “they” were going to need 10,000 troops on Jan. 6, according to a statement Miller provided to a House committee in May 2021.
But Miller added that there was “no elaboration,” and he took the comment to mean “a large force would be required to maintain order the following day.” He noted that domestic law enforcement believed they had sufficient personnel.”

    from Paul’s own post:
“Trump did say during a 30-second call on Jan. 5 with then Acting Secretary of Defense Christopher Miller that “they” were going to need 10,000 troops on Jan. 6, according to a statement Miller provided to a House committee in May 2021.”
So Trump warned everyone there would be a need for the presence of 10,000 troops to be there when he and the Trumpers would do the Insurrection thing.
    Makes total sense, Paul.
As I pointed out – bank robbers always phone the bank ahead of the heist to warn them of the need for extra guards for the day they show up to rob the bank.
I don’t need to “prove” anything – Paul is doing all the heavy lifting.
Paul is now admitting that Trump warned of the need for 10,000 troops after denying this earlier.
I knew Paul would come around after doing some research.
    Also:
“He noted that domestic law enforcement believed they had sufficient personnel”
Of course – because Pelosi withheld the intel from the Capitol Police that she was advised of.
Had she passed along what she had been told they sure as shit wouldn’t have had that sort of confidence of not needing the troops that Trump had advised them to have.

So the total effort of what Trump did was a 30 second call to Acting Secretary of Defense Christopher Miller. That’s it with no followup. He also sat and watched television of the riot the afternoon of Jan 6 and did nothing for 3 hours. How do you explain that Scott? He then told the rioters that “we love you, you’re very special”.

Paul now admits that Trump did warn of the need for 10,000 fed troops on the day that Trump was going to have an “insurrection”.
Maybe Paul can explain how that works.
Paul claims that Trump is planning to have an “insurrection” on Jan 6th.
But first he says they need to have an extra 10,000 troops on hand to stop the insurrection.
    Makes total sense.
    Got it.
    and –
“He then told the rioters that “we love you, you’re very special”.
Perhaps Paul could supply the full audio or video of Trump saying:
“Rioters at the capitol – we love you, you’re very special”.?

So – Trump never referred to rioters – he was referring to protestors – as I thought.
from Paul’s link – “‘Go home. We love you’: Trump to protesters”
    Not “rioters”
The vast majority of protestors on Jan 6th broke no laws of any kind.
Here’s a good over view of what Trump actually said and who he said it to:
    https://americanmilitarynews.com/2022/08/gen-kellogg-trump-did-request-natl-guard-troops-on-jan-6th-asks-congress-to-release-his-testimony/
My original point made yesterday at 5:28 stands. Why would Trump offer to have more security if he was planning some kind of trouble?
    Also from Paul:
“Can you document the offer you claim Trump made to Pelosi and when it was done?”
I didn’t claim that, Paul – you just made that up.

It was a riot from Trump supporters who broke into the Capital and for a while occupied the House chamber and trashed offices while chanting “hang Pence”. Do you deny that happened? Here’s a list of convictions and guilty pleas.
“The Department of Justice’s (DOJ) Washington D.C. office said in its latest update that 623 people had received sentences—though not all had been handed periods of incarceration—while around 657 individuals had pleaded guilty to federal charges, “many of whom faced or will face incarceration at sentencing.”

    Ignorance meets evil…MAGA meets Trump
“Former President Trump, if elected, would build a Cabinet and White House staff based mainly on two imperatives: pre-vetted loyalty to him and a commitment to stretch legal and governance boundaries, sources who talk often with the leading GOP presidential candidate tell Axios.
Why it matters: Trump would fill the most powerful jobs in government with men like Stephen Miller, Sen. J.D. Vance of Ohio and Kash Patel — with the possible return of Steve Bannon. If Trump won in 2024, he’d turn to loyalists who share his zeal to punish critics, purge non-believers, and take controversial legal and military action, the sources tell us.”
The list of possible Trump administration staffers reads like a who’s who list of wackydoodle conspiracy theorists,

So Trump did nothing on the day of the riot (yes it was a riot with hundreds of convictions and more to come) for three hours then gave a directive saying go home, we love you. Why Scott didn’t he make that call to go home hours earlier?
Also here’s a quote from Trump blaming Pelosi for Jan 6
“She turned down 10,000 soldiers,” Trump said, claiming that Pelosi was in charge of security of the Capitol. “If she didn’t turn down the soldiers, you wouldn’t have had January 6th.”

    FMR. PRES. DONALD TRUMP:
Uh, frankly, just so you understand, I assumed that she took care of it. She turned down —
    KRISTEN WELKER:
But when you realized that the National Guard wasn’t coming? When help wasn’t coming?
    FMR. PRES. DONALD TRUMP:
Well, you don’t realize anything until quite a while. National Guard are not coming. I asked her to be there three days in advance. And she turned it down.
    KRISTEN WELKER:

Sen. Steve Daines (R-MT) says President Joe Biden is siphoning Veterans Affairs healthcare resources away from the nation’s military veterans to serve illegal aliens arriving at the United States-Mexico border.
The statements from Daines come as Fox News’s Adam Shaw reported this week that the Concerned Veterans for America group is urging Congress and federal investigators to look into the Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s (ICE) arrangement with the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).
Last year, Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas seemingly confirmed to Rep. Ashley Hinson (R-IA) that the agency was looking at using VA healthcare resources at the southern border.
Reports from the House Homeland Security Committee, chaired by Rep. Mark Green (R-TN), have shown that Medicaid costs for emergency services for illegal aliens cost American taxpayers more than $7 billion in Fiscal Year 2021 and more than $5.4 billion in Fiscal Year 2022.
Annually, Americans are forced to subsidize medical care for illegal aliens to the tune of $18.5 billion.
