[Here’s the latest goings on in our idiot nation. The leftwing lamestream media are cancelling Jason Aldean’s ‘Try that in a small town’ song that he recorded in front of the Maury County courthouse in Columbia, Tennessee. Why? Because they claim people are outraged by the song’s lyrics protesting progressive riots and criminality in general, and the choice of its venue as having been where a black man was lynched in the 1920s. Those outraged come from the eternally ignorant cohort of Americans who couldn’t identify the Atlantic Ocean on a world map, but somehow know such historical esoteria connected with an obscure mid-western courthouse. gjr]

It’s been interesting watching the Democratic Party apparatchiks going after the one nationally prominent Democrat who seems to be a decent guy.

When your party is a coalition of special interest groups, I guess that divvying up the carcass of the country is the most practical way forward.

How about the way Trump aht the Trumpers goes after anybody who disagrees with them about anything?
Here’s an example
““We are never going back to the party of Paul Ryan, Karl Rove and Jeb Bush,” he vowed. “If those opposing us succeed, our once beautiful USA will be a failed country that nobody will even recognize, an open borders, lawless filthy communist nightmare.”

So you are saying that Trump and all Trump supporters always go after anybody who disagrees about anything?
That sounds like a tough thing to prove old son. A single instance, or even multiple ones, doesn’t meet that requirement.
Sounds to me like you are just exaggerating to stir some shit, but that’s what trolls do.
Don’t you have a minor 2nd to practice or something?

I’ll take a look.
Mostly what I did, as usual on that kind of thing, is do a googlesearch on news limited to dates previous to Trump. It’s not a bad idea generally as they all went insane in 2015-2016.
The Kennedy/Nixon situation came up quite a lot. Hoo-whee that must have been a crooked election although any Modern Major Democrat would consider the chicanery and results as ‘good’.
Naturally, and to send like a broken record, I think that lawfare has the desirable result of pulling back the covers on the way that things really work. If Trump can’t put together a mafia as ruthless and powerful as his opponents, you can argue he’s not qualified to be President. I’d say that he’s as principled as LBJ or the Kennedys, but maybe hasn’t put together the organization and has relied too much on a supernatural ability to do retail politics.

“Complex Systems Won’t Survive the Competence Crisis”
“…The core issue is that changing political mores have established the systematic promotion of the unqualified and sidelining of the competent. This has continually weakened our society’s ability to manage modern systems. At its inception, it represented a break from the trend of the 1920s to the 1960s, when the direct meritocratic evaluation of competence became the norm across vast swaths of American society.

I am on the Chemo diet now. Screw you, American Heart Diet. Figure I got about a month left. Chemo ain’t going to work at this stage. Radiation therapy ain’t going to work…..unless I want to everyday exhausted. Not quality of life in that. Left lung collapsed and I did not feel a thing. Right lung filling up with cancer. That small cell cancer has a mind of its own and moves with breathtaking speed. Kinda admire the way small cell cancer is the least understood, just like me!! And only a special minority get it! That confirmation was not shared with voters ahead of the 2020 election as dozens of former intelligence officials and then-presidential candidate Joe Biden falsely suggested that incriminating documents were Russian

A decent question. I suppose there are different possibilities. Too much of a hassle. Sketchy doings. Disagreement with those records being public at all for some aesthetic reason. Because ‘I told you so’, seeing as how public officials tend to cloak themselves in some kind of holiness of the office. Dunno.
Being somewhat tired of political activists, I think I miss the days when local politics in practically any place was run by prominent businessmen (are there any anymore?) and crooked property developers. There’s an honesty in self-interested behavior that you don’t get in world-savin’ folks.

Great (long) reference article. Very scary. Maybe all of the failures discussed in the paper would have occurred without having the new “equity hires” employed. These folks were known as incompetents a short 40 years ago.
Toward the end of the piece:
“The U.S. has embraced a novel question: what happens when the men who built the complex systems our society relies on cease contributing and are replaced by people who were chosen for reasons other than competency?”
Ooh, ooh teacher, I know, I know! Let’s do an experiment and find out. Oh wait, you said we started that experiment 20 years ago. I must have missed it – that was about when I retired.

As a further follow-up for the competency & complex system problems the U.S. might be having-

The author points out that none of these technology failures are under 100 years old. Train derailments – been doing that since 1830; bad drinking water – cf. Dr. John Snow & chlorinating water 1854; airplane crashes – W. Wright 1903; U.S. Navy collisions at sea – 4000 BC – they’ll ruin your day.
So when will Cali have another sizable electricity outage this summer – take your best guess? Later? or sooner?
One thing we don’t have to worry about much now – having a bad check. Who uses a paper check anymore? Society has eliminated any chance of scamming or swindling using that 5000-year-old invention of paper. Whew – that’s a relief. Hold on a minute while I check this email from Lagos.

What does he do?
“Devlin Montfort’s research interests include the epistemology of engineering practice and education, how to develop conceptual understanding of complex natural and engineered systems, and how to promote success for students on their own terms. Qualitative research methods: semistructured interviews, thematic analysis, and ethnographic and phenomenological observations.”
