PaulE 1028am – Did you forget again that there was nothing Trump could do to “reverse the election” on 6 Jan. All that the president could do and did was to encourage VP Pence to delay certifying the electoral college votes; something Pence could have done in one of several constitutionally sanctioned ways. But none of them would have guaranteed reversing the election’s results. Pence did what he thought was right by certifying the votes, because according to his lights there was not sufficient material evidence for fraud or irregularities in the 2020 election. Try not to keep forgetting all this; it’s not that complicated.

Your opinion that Pence had the Constitutional authority to delay certification was not legal according to this legal decision:
IV. Conclusion
As Plaintiffs have established no likelihood of success on the merits here, the Court will
deny their Motion for Preliminary Injunction.

The bottom line George is Pence was told he did not have the Constitutional authority to delay certification of the election. Pence said that himself.
“Our Founders were deeply suspicious of consolidated power in the nation’s capital and were rightly concerned with foreign interference if presidential elections were decided in the capital,” Pence said. “But there are those in our party who believe that as the presiding officer over the joint session of Congress, I possessed unilateral authority to reject electoral college votes. And I heard this week, President Trump said I had the right to ‘overturn the election’. President Trump is wrong…I had no right to overturn the election.”
““Under the Constitution, I had no right to change the outcome of our election. And Kamala Harris will have no right to overturn the election when we beat them in 2024,”

In Pence’s own words George:
In a speech to the conservative Federalist Society on Friday, former Vice President Mike Pence rebuked his one time boss, Donald Trump, decrying the notion that he could have overturned the election results on the 45th president’s behalf.
“Under the Constitution, I had no right to change the outcome of our election. And Kamala Harris will have no right to overturn the election when we beat them in 2024,” he said in his address.

PaulE – Your citations don’t bear on my 1055am. Please read it again. Congress acknowledges the problem of the VP being able to delay the certification under current law and constitutional interpretation. Both parties acknowledge that with the drafting of a new law to correct the ambiguities in the Electoral Count Act of 1887.

That’s one way to look at it. Another is that the committee lost any measure of legitimacy when Speaker Pelosi denied committee membership of Congressmen Jim Jordan and Jim Banks and the remaining Republicans chose to not participate in an illegitimate committee.

If you say the Rs “could have been part of it” in the sense that they would sit quietly and only say what Nancy would allow them to say – then yes – they could have participated in a kangaroo court circus.
But that isn’t in the real sense a full and legit participation.
It did have the desired result with a lot of low IQ Americans:
“Is our justice system going to let Donald Trump walk away free just like OJ Simpson?”
https://news.yahoo.com/justice-system-going-let-donald-100000594.html
I’m pretty sure OJ had an actual trial with both sides represented.
The justice dept knows they CAN indict Trump but they can’t get a guilty verdict. Just having Trump tarred with a lop-sided hearing will have to suffice. And it help coverup a lot of questions about what happened on Jan 6th that will never be asked or answered.

Top Federal Reserve Officials With Known Links To China Still Have Their Jobs, Senate Republican Report Says
“China has been conducting its campaign against the Federal Reserve since at least 2013, according to the report, with investigators identifying 13 “persons of interest” at eight of the 12 regional Federal Reserve Banks as of 2015, based on their international travel patterns and other factors. The report details five more recent case studies of China seeking sensitive information from American economists, with four of the mentioned individuals retaining their employment at the central bank, a committee aide told CNN.
An official who had previously held positions at the People’s Bank of China and maintained other links to the Chinese monetary system was forcibly detained on four occasions during a 2019 trip to Shanghai, with Chinese officials allegedly tapping his phones and computers while threatening his family. The Chinese officials claimed that the individual had committed crimes against China and needed to “share sensitive, non-public economic data” with the nation’s government.
According to the report, the Federal Reserve is “not aware” of other instances of Chinese officials forcibly detaining its employees.”

Too bad the actual Secret Service personnel in the limo (two in front seat, one in back seat whose job it is to directly sit facing Trump at all times said the story is fake. BTW, the Secret Service never ever refers to the limo as ‘the beast.’ That’s a name made up by the media. There is the limo and there is the ‘Camp David Package’. The ‘beast’ is like fingernails on the Chalk Board to me…just as the wrong use of ‘their and there’ is to others.

Bill, you’re not doing you’re homework when you state Al Gore petitioned the court in 2000. Indeed he did but he conceded on December 13 not Jan 6. He was a class act when he said:
“I accept the finality of the outcome, which will be ratified next Monday in the Electoral College” he said. “And tonight, for the sake of our unity as a people and the strength of our democracy, I offer my concession.”
Gore had won the national popular vote by more than 500,000 votes, but narrowly lost Florida, giving the Electoral College to Bush 271 to 266. He lost Florida by only 537 votes.
