    I’m genuinely curious where the ‘no background check’ came from. Was there a news story that said that? or is it just trying to juice up the statement a little bit?
    It’s genuinely hard to always be accurate and peoples’ minds will fill in the blanks with sketchy knowledge. I can’t blame Psul since, no doubt, I fall into the same trap.
    Regarding AR-15 style (a reasonable description) rifles, the odd thing to me is how that always becomes central to the story. A large part of the country has a real hard-on about those even though I can only think of a couple of cases where military pattern rifles were used to the shooter’s advantage (Hollywood shoutout and the guy in Las Vegas maybe?). The Islamist at Fort Hood probably stumbled onto what works best for lunatics on soft targets, a semiautomatic handgun (a Five-seven). Dunno how you round up all of those.

    Mass shooters (FBI sez 4 or more in one incident) are obviously nearly all 9mm pistol users, so I thought I’d look at situations that rhyme a little better.
    School shooters in the US…weapon followed by the number of people murdered.
    Dynamite: 44
    Handgun: 32, 13
    AR variant: 27, 21, 17
    Bolt action rifle: 16
    Why the crazy school shooter wouldn’t simply switch to a handgun if all small semiauto rifles magically disappeared is something I can’t see happening. As an aside, any anti-AR15 law would sweep up the whole range of .308/7.62 rifles which I can’t imagine anyone using for evil doing.

    Under the “Plotter Demographics” section (page 11) of the Secret Service report, they included plotters’ ages (11 to 19), (so the Korean student at Virginia Tech would not be included), and genders too. Sorry – two. Only 2 genders to choose from – male/female. Missing was the race/ethnicity of the plotters. Normally that is considered part of ‘demographic’, since demographic data often include age, sex, race, education, religion.
    Also not mentioned is the presence of fathers in the household.
    I don’t know why race would not be considered relevant to this 2021 report, since liberals are about identity. I conclude that whites did not make up a large majority of the ‘plotters’.
