But will they listen or slavishly follow the diktat from the socialist green dems –
The report https://energy.stanford.edu/publications/assessment-diablo-canyon-nuclear-plant-zero-carbon-electricity-desalination-and by researchers at Stanford, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and LucidCatalyst, LLC said delaying closure of the plant to 2025 would reduce California’s carbon emissions from power plants by more than 10% from 2017 levels, reduce dependency on natural gas, and save up to $21 billion in power system costs.
The Diablo Canyon plant generates about 8% of California’s in-state electricity and 15% of its carbon-free power. Keeping it open to 2045 could save up to $21 billion in power system costs and spare 90,000 acres of land from use for energy production, it said.
Starting in 2016, utility PG&E decided to allow the licenses for two reactors at Diablo Canyon to expire in 2024 and 2025, which would close the last nuclear power plant in the country’s most populous state. The move came amid public concerns about earthquakes, nuclear waste and the use of water to cool the plants.
The planned closure also came with the belief that power generated by wind and solar energy would make up the lost electricity. But California struggled with rotating power outages in August 2020 during a heat wave; hydroelectric generation has sagged with droughts; and the switch to electric vehicles is likely to add stress to the grid.
Steven Chu, a U.S. secretary of energy under former President Barack Obama, said that when Japan and Germany shut nuclear power plants in recent years it led to a rise in carbon emissions from fossil fuels.
“In order to combat climate change in the best possible way, I think nuclear power … is something that we should really consider and ask PG&E to reconsider,” said Chu, now a Stanford physics professor.
PG&E did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
The 2,240 megawatt Diablo Canyon plant could also provide power for plants that desalinate ocean water for drinking water and agriculture, and to produce cleaner-burning hydrogen gas, the report said. It did not address how nuclear power proponents could convince PG&E and California politicians and regulators to complete the complicated process of keeping the plant open.

Biden managed to get an infrastructure bill passed, something Trup promised but failed to do. That is a necessary accomplishment. How do you explain Trumps failure to fulfill his promise of passing a bil?

    Like

  8. George Rebane Avatar

PaulE 854pm – First, it was Pelosi who got it passed. Second, Pelosi got it through ONLY with the help of Republicans, as her own rabidly leftwing Democrats defected on her (and Biden). Third, Democrats fought every initiative of Trump’s including his desire to pass a true infrastructure bill; during his last two years the Dems owned the House where all such spending bills must start.
    Next question?

Wouldn’t Standard Oil and Shell have loved to make the American tax payers build their gas stations?
We already have fed tax dollars by the billions to fund “roads and bridges”.
This is just a slush fund for the left.
All Biden did was shit his pants for the Pope and fart up a storm in Scotland.
Of course Paul was excited to hear about Biden having showers with his daughter. Sounds good to Paul!

Oh well. You lean back in your damp La-Z-Boy, type a sentence, and the deplorables jump in outrage. It’s all so tiresome.
Besides musing about why states aren’t totally responsible for infrastructure, aside from standards, I found myself wondering about a couple of things.
. What is in the bill? You know Paul has no clue, I don’t have a clue, hardly anyone has a clue. The list given (500 gajillion dollars for passenger rail!!!) means nothing.
. Where does the money really go? A realist/cynic assumes that it’s all just basically a slush fund for Congress and it’s special friends (like large defense contracts appear to trend), but it’s hard to tell. What some sort of reasonably independent group should do is trace the cash flow in things like:
    Fixing America’s Surface Transportation Act
Moving Ahead for Progress in the 21st Century Act
Safe, Accountable, Flexible, Efficient Transportation Equity Act
Transportation Equity Act for the 21st Century
    Intermodal Surface Transportation Efficiency Act
etc. etc. and see if any money actually made it to something useful. There’s an entire ecosystem of bureaucrats, useless non-profits, and crooked contractors who need feeding, so maybe it’s all just a jobs program for grifters.

Direct quote from Trump. Typical Trump lie. “We are going to fix our inner cities and rebuild our highways, bridges, tunnels, airports, schools, hospitals,” he said in his 2016 election night victory speech. “And we will put millions of our people to work as we rebuild it.”
Sounds like Biden except Biden did it.

Anyway, Paul was told it’s ‘necessary’ and that’s good enough for the majority of bobble-heads in our country.
I think the worst part is that most of it goes for seed money to set up fed programs that folks will come to expect and depend on into perpetuity. The trillion now will blow up into 10 times that down the road.

The new “necessary” trillion plus infrastructure bill contains only 110 billion for roads and bridges. The rest goes to what shall be called the GND groundwork. The Build Back Better three plus trillion (5 trillion per auditors) is the implementation of the GND, That is why the looney left extremists wanted both to pass simultaneously by reconciliation….just like Obamacare was passed by reconciliation.

Kyle Rittenhouse. Boy Scoutish kid with amazing composure, but don’t mess with him.
    plus
Donald Trump. Genius politician and enormous asshole. Bull in a china shop.
    Team Blue:

Have any of you been following the Kyle Rittenhouse trial? The prosecution’s witnesses have undermined (eviscerated) their own case and the defensive has not even presented their case yet. On the surface and below the surface the trial is pointing classic case of self defense. Text book. One never knows how a jury will vote and it takes only one Antifa or BLM sympathizer on the jury to throw a monkey wretch in the gears.
All the lefties do is cry aloud that Rittenhouse, a minor at the time, broke the state law by transporting his firearm across state lines. Big deal. Are you telling me that Rittenhouse’s right to self defense stops at the state line? Does my right to self defense not apply in Arizona or Nevada or Oregon?
The prosecution has no case. The defense has a great case. Time will tell.

Even without the full-court press by the bureaucrazy against a newly-elected President (has that happened before?) it’s not much of a surprise for a campaign promise to go nowhere for 100 reasons. It’s probably just as well. The Executive Office’s need to do ‘big things’ gets us in more trouble than I’d like.
I think that Paul just likes to say ‘lie’, there’s a certain guilty thrill from playing hard-ass on the internet. It’s probably better to simply view any response to Paul Trumphate as sparring with a child with progeria..oddly unsatisfying and not worth the trouble.

PaulE – when the Repubs “owned the House” Trump got through an agenda that lowered taxes, regs, made US energy independent, and got the economy out of low gear. By any measure one the greatest two year accomplishments of any president. He (wrongly) anticipated in getting help from the Dems to pass his infrastructure initiatives, but the Dems would rather sink the country than do anything to support Trump (they have demonstrated this now in spades during Bumblebrain’s tenure).
And don’t think that Bumblebrain has accomplished anything yet on fixing the country’s infrastructure. Only about 10% of the current bill is even destined for fixing roads, bridges, etc, the rest of it is a boondoggle. And I’m willing to bet you a tidy sum that less than 1% of the amount of the bill will be paid for infrastructure work before he leaves office. Bottom line, Biden ain’t done shit yet, and he’ll do even less for the country in the time he has left.
