Paul, by the definition of most of the civilized world (and mine), it was not an insurrection. And your US Code quote is laughable. It in no way defines insurrection, but uses it as if its definition is known and given elsewhere. If you think that paragraph defines the term, then you are given to what is known as ‘circular definitions’. See if you can find out what these are, before you put your foot in it again.
And yes, VP Pence was more secure than any baseball umpire whose ‘demise’ the fans are shouting from the stands. Get a grip. It’s hard to believe that only the rabid faction of Dems truly believe that there occurred a government replacing insurrection that placed our congress critters in physical danger. It was political theater.

Interesting point Paul brings up about Mike Pense. While not proven (pure speculation, ok), the officer who shot the unarmed gal in the neck and dropped her dead may have been Pence’s bodyguard. Not in uniform, wearing a suit. That points to the Occam’s razor principle of being Secret Service, thus the name withheld (for National Security reasons alone). If it was a Capitol Police Officer who shot Ashley Babbitt, one would think the name would be released by now.
Yes, the Park Service, Capitol Police, and DC Metro all have plainclothes officers, but only the SS and Capitol Police would be guarding dignitaries inside the Capitol. Mike Pense was there inside that day, so it makes it clear that the SS was there guarding the VP. As mentioned before, it’s only speculation that the Secret Service detail assigned protect to Mike Pense was not only there, but fired the sole shot fired that day. Ashley Babbit did try to come through the broken glass just outside a Senate hearing room. Could be. Maybe, maybe not. If so, Imwould venture that Mike Pense was safe. 🙂
The US Capitol Police said at the time that the officer involved had been put on administrative leave.
DC Metro (who is in charge of investigating all homicides in DC, including Officer Brian Sicknick’s death) found there was insufficient evidence to charge the Capitol Police officer with wrongdoing.
So that is two references to a Capitol Police Officer as the shooter that day. Probably just pure speculation. Besides, Nancy is in charge of the Capitol Police and the Capitol. She refused requests to bring in the National Guard, FYI.
The US justice department said an investigation revealed “no evidence to establish beyond a reasonable doubt that the officer wilfully committed a violation”. But they did not say it was a Capitol Police Officer who was cleared of wrongdoing. 🙂
Either way, Mike Pense was well protected. Nobody was going to get close to him alive.

Communism just strikes me as corporatism with bigger corporations. It’s all built around false economies of scale. Political systems that are designed in libraries (or jails) always seem to be the most dangerous kind, convincing yet impractical.
