[Given this week’s SCOTUS ruling on Indian lands in Oklahoma (here and here), the future of all 19th century abrogated treaties with our indigenous Americans will come up for review.  All this will create chaos in the governmental jurisdictions involved, not the least being the status of non-Indians and their property rights.  gjr]

Since we know that the Washington DC area is the seat of all benefits and wealth of U.S. citizens, and is the engine of our wealth, the new name for the Washington NFL team should naturally be the “Washington Engines”. There, everyone is happy.
Or for those die-hard Lewis Carroll lovers:
The name of the team is called The Washington Patriots.
The name of the team actually is The Washington Engines.
The team is called The Washington Vernons.
The team actually is The Washington Redskins.

Morn’n folks, Some earth science news.
Evidences that Grímsvötn volcano is getting ready for the next eruption

At the SAB meeting the status of Grímsvötn volcano was also discussed, as the Earth Science Institute and the Icelandic Meteorological Office had new measurements performed in the beginning of June.
During its active period, as it is since the eruption in 1996, Grímsvötn erupts on average each 5-10 years. The last eruption occurred in 2011 and it was a fairly large and powerful event. Between eruptions, the deformation data indicate the gradual accumulation of new magma at depth and the increased pressure in the system. In the last weeks scientists from the IMO measured SO2 in the southwest corner of the caldera in Grímsvötn, close to where the last eruptions in 2004 and 2011 took place. “This is the first time that we measure so much SO2 at a volcano in Iceland that is not in an eruptive phase and its presence is indicative of magma at shallow level”,”

This should give us all pause…..

In the U.S. Navy, “shock trials” involve taking a warship to sea and conducting drills to see how well she might absorb the stress of combat. The Navy has lately experienced institutional shock trials: bribery scandals, collisions and sundry other public-relations nightmares. This week in San Diego the USS Bonhomme Richard, a $750 million amphibious assault ship, caught fire and burned for days. Earlier this year, Capt. Brett Crozier was relieved of command of the USS Theodore Roosevelt after writing a letter saying he needed to move his sailors off the aircraft carrier to arrest an outbreak of the novel coronavirus.
High-profile mishaps and unwanted publicity point to an overarching problem: For several years the Navy has been forced to do too much with too little, a debate that deserves wider attention. The Navy also seems to be suffering from a cultural dysfunction in the chain of command. To repair it, the Navy will need to reinvent its process for refining leaders and perhaps even the service’s broader mission. What’s at stake is the quality of American military talent that fights the next war—an eventuality that seems less far-fetched amid the tense mood of a global pandemic.
The 2017 crashes in the Western Pacific involving the USS John S. McCain and USS Fitzgerald still loom large in the Navy. An investigation revealed that Pacific fleet ships were going to sea with too little training and that crews weren’t skilled in the basics of sea navigation. Also implicated was the Navy’s “can do” culture—the propensity of naval officers to try to get the job done no matter the cost.
“Interviews revealed that, particularly among ships based in Japan, crews perceived their Commanding Officer was unable to say ‘no’ regardless of unit-level consequence,” according to a 177-page “comprehensive review” of the 2017 incidents. Vice Adm. Joseph Aucoin, who commanded the Seventh Fleet during the collisions, wrote in a naval publication that he’d “made clear” to his superiors “the impact of increased operational demand on training and maintenance well prior” to the accidents. Despite “explicitly stated concerns,” he wrote, “the direction we received was to execute the mission.” He was fired shortly after the accidents.
In 2015, a submarine ran aground in Florida, resulting in $1 million in damage. The Navy fired Capt. David Adams, the officer in command when the accident occurred. Journalist Hope Hodge Seck of Military.com made a public-records request for the 475-page investigation, the details of which she published in March. Capt. Adams had warned his superiors that his crew was too inexperienced to handle a precarious predawn return to port. He was nevertheless told to execute the mission.
The Navy’s tradition of firing commanding officers who fail is a venerable one, and the Navy has tried to absorb the lessons of these incidents. But as Ms. Seck notes, the sub mishap “came against the backdrop of a Navy grappling with a culture in which overworked and unready crews were regularly put underway in service of operational needs.” The careers of commanders like Capt. Adams can look like the casualties.
The Roosevelt is a confounding example. The Navy’s investigation makes a strong case for removing Capt. Crozier. He failed to rein in the ship’s senior medical officer, who, according to the Navy’s investigation, was predicting up to 50 virus deaths on the ship and threatening to take the medical department’s grim case to the press. (One sailor assigned to the Roosevelt died from complications of Covid-19.)
Yet the Navy’s report also details how the Roosevelt’s leadership became frustrated with its superiors at Seventh Fleet headquarters over the chaotic process of moving sailors off the ship.

To quote Instapundit….the chaser…..a very “scenes” like exit line!
On the upside, everyone’s diversity and trans-awareness training is up to date.

I vote ‘Washington Apparatchiks’, but it wouldn’t fit on a jersey very well.
Per BillT: N. Pelosi: ““Unidentified stormtroopers. Unmarked cars. Kidnapping protesters and causing severe injuries in response to graffiti.”
The ‘little graffiti’ meme has hit so simultaneously, I can’t tell whether it’s part of a top-down directive, or simply the speed o’ the internet (roughly the speed o’ rumor in days of yore).
The thing is you could show people hours of the actual riots, and they’d still pipe up with the ‘graffiti’ claim. It’s not too dissimilar to Portland’s mayor claiming it’s all the fed’s fault (and D. Trump, naturally) because the fedgov brought in some officers from different agencies after 45 days or so of riot. It’s probably because all the folks starting fires are ‘boogaloo boys’ or something. The ability of a mind to convince itself of nontruth is amazing.

Friday’s document dump. Thank you AG Barr for declassifying material and thank you R’s for releasing it
‘Newly Declassified Documents Reinforce Corruption Of Steele Dossier, FISA Warrants’
    1) The first document is a 57-page three-day summary of FBI interviews with British intelligence official Christopher Steele’s “Primary Sub-source” that was the foundation for the dossier. The inteview shows the primary sub-source was not only never a well-connected Russian official, but was actually a contractor for Steele’s firm. The primary sub-source was also caught unaware of information that Steele attributed to him and charged Steele with mischaracterizing important events to exaggerate claims….
    2) The second document unveils a new treasure trove of notes from former FBI agent Peter Strzok making clear Strzok knew of the lack of credibility of Steele’s primary sub-sources, writing “recent interviews and investigation however, reveal Steele may not be in a position to judge the reliability of his sub-source network.”….
The second document also attributes comments to Strzok on a New York Times article chronicling alleged ties between the Trump campaign and the Russian government.
“[W]e have not seen evidence of any individuals affiliated with the Trump team in contact with IOs [Intelligence Officials]…. We are unaware of ANY Trump advisors engaging in conversations with Russian intelligence officials,” Strzok reportedly said.
    https://thefederalist.com/2020/07/18/newly-declassified-documents-reinforce-corruption-of-steele-dossier-fisa-warrants/
    1) So, now we know the NYT was lying when it published alleged ties between the Trump Campaign and Russian Intelligence.
2). So now we have concrete proof that in Feb 2017, the FBI had no basis for a FISA warrant, yet proceeded to seek two renewals. Ties up that loose end.

    From Walt’s link:
“The FBI’s legal counsel has described the warrant to surveil Page as “essentially a single source FISA” wholly dependent on the dossier, which also made numerous other unsubstantiated claims about Russian hackers in a nonexistent consulate in Miami, Cohen’s purported trips to Prague, and lurid blackmail tapes. Special Counsel Robert Muller couldn’t find any evidence supporting those allegations.”
Well, lookie here. Cohen’s reported trip to Prague. Hmmm, Union commentator Ms. Cook still believes that whopper. But, then again, she wrote a convincing letter to the Union urging the newspaper to endorse My Gal in 2016. Lurid blackmail tapes? Our local new director sunk his teeth..er…gums into that one.

Polls: Got a chuckle a couple of days ago. The Quinnipiac University Poll with CBS (or some other news outlet) had Biden up by 12 over Trump. Almost exactly to the day four years prior, Quinnipiac and the same news company had Hillary up by 12 over Trump.

Today on the Chris Wallace Fox news program today Trump refused to say he would leave office if he was defeated in the election. What is the Constitutional remedy if a President refuses to leave office?
Here’s some quotes from the interview:
Wallace unveiled the results of a Fox News poll that showed Trump losing by eight points to the presumptive Democratic nominee, Joe Biden. Trump was also behind Biden on the response to the pandemic, on race relations and on the economy. He trails in other polls too.
Trump said: “I’m not losing, because those are fake polls.”
Not only did Trump deny the hard data, he also refused to say if he will accept the result of November’s presidential election if he comes out the loser.
“I have to see,” he said. “Look … I have to see. No, I’m not going to just say yes. I’m not going to say no, and I didn’t last time either.”

Insight: “Public servants say, always with the best of intentions, ‘What greater service we could render if only we had a little more money and a little more power.’ But the truth is that outside of its legitimate function, government does nothing as well or as economically as the private sector.” —Ronald Reagan
For the record: “Today we are no longer living in a free society. Instead, we are ruled by those who try to enforce their extreme views by shaming and ruining those who think differently. It is not far-fetched to compare the methods of this ‘woke movement’ to those of Chairman Mao’s Red Guards, who terrorised the Chinese people half a century ago.” —London School of Economics emeritus professor John Gray
Upright: “I don’t understand how insulting another group helps our cause. … We can’t allow black people to be prejudiced also. Especially if we’re asking for white folks to respect us, give us economic opportunity, and things like that. … I don’t understand how you beat hatred with more hatred. … I want allies. I don’t want to alienate anybody. And to take shots at the Jewish race, the white race — I just don’t like it because it’s not right.”—Charles Barkley

It must be awfully dark in there.
‘WaPo Blames Spiking Violence on Racist Gun Buyers’
“In a blatantly politically motivated story, The Washington Post blamed the recent rise in violent crime in many of America’s large (and Democrat-run) cities not on anti-police protests and riots but on “excess” guns and the phony concept of “gun violence.”
The blame-shifting piece was titled, “Spike in violent crime follows rise in gun-buying amid social upheaval,” and the Post sought to blame Americans buying guns for rising violence, not Democrats and Black Lives Matter’s widespread call for defunding the police — or, you know, actual rioters and general thugs. This article is a textbook example of attempting to pass off correlation as causation. The Post fails to provide any data supporting the notion that the sudden rise in violent crime is due to law-abiding citizens who legally purchased their firearms suddenly electing to engage in violence. That’s because they don’t.
What the Post cites is a dubious study by the anti-gun organization Gun Violence Archive. It asserts: “The risks of increased firearm availability are likely compounded by the myriad effects of the coronavirus pandemic, including widespread increases in anxiety, fear, grief, economic strain, disruptions to daily routines, and racial and economic inequities.” Furthermore, the Post attempts to minimize BLM’s calls for defunding the police as essentially an insignificant factor for the increase in gun sales, suggesting instead that “the spike is driven by racist beliefs and attitudes among white Americans.”
Those doggone “bitter clingers” and “deplorables.”
No, the reason Americans are buying firearms at a higher rate is that a growing number are realizing the reasoning and wisdom behind the Second Amendment, especially during times of social unrest. When Americans hear the Marxist rhetoric espoused by BLM and other leftist groups being widely touted by the mainstream media, politicians, and big business, and when Americans see the Left’s “cancel culture” mob taking out individuals for daring to express opposing opinions, they very reasonably infer that it would be wise to prepare for the worst. Perhaps ironically, this anti-gun hit piece by the Post only further validates those concerns.“

SOROS COMES TO AID OF ROGUE ST. LOUIS PROSECUTOR
“Gardner’s relatively brief tenure as St. Louis prosecutor has been a disaster for law and order. Prosecutors have left in droves. Gardner’s conviction rate in cases that go trial is abysmal. And, not surprisingly, the homicide rate is soaring.
Gardner’s incompetence and, possibly, her corruption were on display in her attempt to nail former Republican Gov. Eric Greitens. Gardner indicted Greitens shortly after she assumed office in January 2017. Months later, she was forced to drop the case for lack of evidence.
According to this report, the case against Greitens was built on lies. Indeed, William Tisaby, an out-of-state retired FBI Agent hired by Gardner to construct the case, has been indicted on seven counts of perjury. He is awaiting trial. Gardner is under criminal investigation in the matter.
It would be difficult for a prosecutor to do more harm in a lifetime than Gardner has done in three and a half years. George Soros has gotten his money’s worth. That’s why he’s investing more of it in her reelection.“

Gosh and Golly Gregory Scenes made some pretty strong assumptions in his 8:58 and it’s reasonable to ask for some documentation and evidence to support his claims. Do you have a problem with that. I’m sure he’ll provide a list of arrests, indictments and convictions to back up his statements.

Coup attempts need not be notarized through the legal process to be recognized and counted. The unsuccessful coup planners, fomenters, participants will, of course, deny their attempts without such legal response.

Don’t you have some anti-Trump shilling to go do? Joey Fingers ain’t gonna sign those checks unless you get your five posts per day. I do have to say that to have you, of all people, ask for documentation is more tragic than laughable.
In the meantime, some Democrats doing that free speech thing.

George, which of your blog entries would be best for Crimes of the Left(tm)?
Personally, I prefer the raw footage. Except for selective editing, the vidyas don’t lie. Most of this stuff never ends up on MSM. If nothing else, it would help everyone plan for a potential Biden victory as they roll out the fun nationwide.

BTW, as far as many of our leftist brethren are concerned, “vidyas” do indeed lie. For example, I have two thoughtful leftist friends who are not convinced that those looting, burning, and shooting are of the Left. In fact, they claim that fringe rightists have joined the fray and operating under ‘false flags’ are the cause of the violence in the streets. As I’ve opined before, everyone can have their own opinions AND facts.
