   Another idle thought.
   No doubt you’ll see a redoubled push for universal basic income. In a Land o’ Plenty, I don’t absolutely hate the idea, but the side effects from moving from a world of shite jobs to one of leisure have never been sussed out I think. One byproduct of our current situation is that the number of ‘essential’ jobs is being made more obvious. We don’t need non-profit grant writing (a major source of local income) or restaurants to keep the machine moving, just the cash flow.
   In any case, I’d sure like to see how the UBI proponents deal with a combination of a large idle class (the results of which can be seen already in some places) along with a majority of voters having ‘consumer’ listed as their profession. The latter problem of a new dominant voting class might result in Galt’s Gulch being founded sooner rather than later.
   It seems to me that the only way to institute a stable UBI is to have a permanently charitable elite rather than any variety of democracy. We need to make sure that the ruling class never reads their Nietzsche of course.

   Walt: why so defensive? Are you familiar with inactive voter rolls? We had a person staying in our home that used our address to vote but subsequently moved to various different districts within the county. But they always came to this district to vote and always voted Republican.
   Later they move to Oregon but for years I kept receiving Republican voter information pamphlets because the county still had her on as a registered voter.
   Eventually I was able to get the county to believe that she wasn’t in the state any longer. Just because someone is registered somewhere doesn’t mean they’re actually going to vote. But fools like Trump would have you believe that is the case.

   In none of the stories I’ve read about the folks with the fatal aquarium cleaner ingestion has there been a mention of what exactly killed the guy… was it an overdose of chloroquine phosphate, or was it another ingredient, whether disclosed on the package or not?
   From what I’ve read, there’s not a large difference between a theraputic dose and an overdose.

    Evidently, he was killed by ‘chloroquine’, although causation doesn’t imply correlation, or something.

    The New York Times stealth-edited its article on the sexual-assault allegation against Joe Biden by his former Senate staffer Tara Reade just minutes after it was published on Sunday morning, removing all references in a key paragraph to the multiple past accusations by seven women that the former vice president had touched them inappropriately.
    The Times piece also focuses on unrelated sexual misconduct accusations against President Trump, and largely dismisses Reade’s allegations as uncorroborated by her co-workers — even though the Times notes later in its piece that Reade’s claim was contemporaneously corroborated by two of Reade’s friends.
