re MaryW 125pm – we note that this liberal avoids addressing the material reports of China’s perfidy which the left has swallowed hook-line-sinker, and instead presents allegations of no material importance. For example, it doesn’t matter a whit as to how the internal processes went to shut off China travel; what matters is that Trump made the decision when he did. All the Left has to complain about is a possible process that makes no never mind to anyone not suffering from TDS. This is the nature of the divisive public debate going on during a time of crisis. The Democrats are truly an evil bunch.

At this point, at least 17 people had died and more than 570 others had been infected, including in Taiwan, Japan, Thailand, South Korea and the United States.
Jan 30 W.H.O declares global health emergency.
Jan 31 The Trump administration suspended entry into the United States by any foreign nationals who had traveled to China in the past 14 days, excluding the immediate family members of American citizens or permanent residents. By this date, 213 people had died and nearly 9,800 had been infected worldwide.
Since New Year’s eve 430,000 People Have Traveled From China to U.S. Since Coronavirus Surfaced.
There were 1,300 direct flights to 17 cities before President Trump’s travel restrictions. Since then, nearly 40,000 Americans and other authorized travelers have made the trip, some this past week and many with spotty screening.

The number of foreigners arrested for illegally entering the United States from Canada, Mexico, and along the coasts have dropped to almost nothing in the past week as the U.S. became the world leader in confirmed cases, according to Department of Homeland Security officials.
Only 79 people were encountered Sunday by Border Patrol agents nationwide after they had attempted to enter the country between ports of entry. If that rate continued over the course of a month, it would make for fewer than 2,500 apprehensions, a drop in the bucket compared to the 30,000 arrests that agents made just on the southern border in February and 132,000 at the peak of the border crisis last May.Travel data of passengers arriving in the United States from China during the critical period in December, January and February, when the disease took hold in that country, shows a stunning 759,493 people entered the U.S. That is legally, not illegally and just from China.
ABC News examined data from December, January and February on travelers entering the U.S. from eight of the hardest-hit countries: 343,402 arrived from Italy, 418,848 from Spain and about 1.9 million more came from Britain.
Combined with those from China, that’s more than 3.4 million people from just four countries — nearly half, about 1.5 million, Americans returning home.

Studies have shown that all forms of voting fraud are extremely rare in the United States. A national study in 2016 found few credible allegations of fraudulent voting. A panel that Mr. Trump charged with investigating election corruption found no real evidence of fraud before he disbanded it in 2018.
Even so, experts say that the mail voting system is more vulnerable to fraud than voting in person.
“What we know can be boiled down to this: Voting fraud in the United States is rare, less rare is fraud using mail ballots,” said Charles Stewart III of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
Mr. Stewart pointed to several documented voting fraud cases of recent decades involving mail or absentee ballots, most recently the race in North Carolina’s Ninth Congressional District in 2018, when an operative who rounded up absentee ballots for the Republican candidate, Mark Harris, was charged with election fraud. The practice is known as ballot harvesting.
“They’re stories, they’re dramatic, they are rare,” said Mr. Stewart, a professor of political science who studies the machinations of voting.

Five states, including the Republican bastion of Utah, now conduct all elections almost entirely by mail. They report very little fraud. The state is among the six states with the highest percentage of mail-in votes in the last election in 2018, all of which had Republican state election supervisors at the time, according to David J. Becker, the director of the Center for Election Innovation and Reform.
Colorado, which has 3.5 million registered voters, has been a vote-by-mail state since 2014.
“There’s just very little evidence that there is more than a handful of fraudulent (vote-by-mail) cases across the country in a given election cycle,” said Judd Choate, the director of elections in the Colorado Department of State.

I don’t know how old you are but when I set up my Social Security account online they used my credit reports to verify I was who I was.

I wonder when I’ll get to sue the WHO. Maybe Vanguard/Fidelity investors can do it as a class. Next time around I’ll use D. Feinstein as an investment advisor.
Considering the nature of post-plague economies. I was considering the nature of lay-offs. There’s a situation now where a number of companies have (a)shrunk their workforce and (b)instituted new ways of doing business. This occurred as a shock rather than as a medium-term downward spiral and forced a lot of rethinking and redesign.
It wouldn’t surprise me if a lot of those jobs never come back. Firms will rehire as they actually need skills rather than as a group. A lot of cruft was eliminated and in more than a few cases it’ll be discovered that those people were never really needed.
