A post from the SACBEE from the story about credit card relief.
“”If credit card companies value the lives of their customers, they must act to protect them from financial ruin during this unexpected downturn.”
Curious. Does this also apply to local governments collecting property taxes due tomorrow? ” “

Oh ya the socialist dems were so aware and did so much better than the administration, NOT –
(Bloomberg) — Three years ago, America’s largest pension fund made an unusual investment. It bought so-called tail-risk protection, a kind of insurance against financial catastrophe. In a market meltdown like the one sparked by the coronavirus, the strategy promised a massive payout — more than $1 billion.
If only the California Public Employees Retirement System had stuck with the plan. Instead, Calpers, as the fund is known, removed one of its two hedges against a bear market just weeks before the viral outbreak sent stocks reeling, according to people familiar with its decision.
The timing couldn’t have been worse. The fund had incurred hundreds of millions of dollars in premium-like costs for those investments. Then it missed out on a bonanza when disaster finally struck.

Go ahead and get stupid and piss off the independents and energize the R;s –
Underscoring a Democratic consensus that Trump’s own words will be a potent weapon, Rep. Mark Pocan, D-Wis., said: “Donald Trump does have the biggest bully pulpit. But fortunately for Democrats, Donald Trump has the biggest bully pulpit.”
Yet seven months from Election Day, Democrats have not matched the attention Trump can command with daily, nationally televised briefings that can exceed two hours.
And they’re juggling conflicting instincts: attack Trump aggressively now and risk accusations of using a catastrophe for political reasons, or wait until society starts returning to normal. That might give him time to define himself as a wartime president battling a virus that’s enveloped the globe.
“There has been gross incompetence” by Trump and that’s “a huge vulnerability,” said Jim Margolis, a leading Democratic communications consultant. “But Democrats must take care not to gratuitously attack the administration or look like they are playing politics with a crisis.”
“A purely partisan attack is inappropriate for the times we’re in,” said former Rep. Steve Israel, D-N.Y., who once headed House Democrats’ campaign organization.
Both approaches — strike vigorously now or later — are being tested in real time.

    https://www.breitbart.com/politics/2020/04/09/judicial-watch-sues-north-carolina-for-1m-inactive-voters-on-voting-rolls/
A PRIME example of why we should NOT have vote by mail.
“North Carolina, according to its own state data, has nearly one million inactive registered voters on its voter rolls. Likewise, Judicial Watch alleges that Mecklenburg County and Guilford County each have more registered voters on their rolls than the total number of eligible voters in the regions.
For example, Judicial Watch analysis finds that Mecklenburg County has a voter registration rate of 107 percent, while Guilford County has a voter registration rate of 102 percent. In Mecklenburg County, Judicial Watch alleges there are about 115,000 inactive voters on the voter rolls, and in Guilford County there are about 72,000 inactive voters.”
So some enterprising “gotta win at all costs” LIBS will be harvesting those ghost ballots.
Just think. the voter rolls are like that all across the nation. And LIBS want to keep it that way… Can Emery tell us why?

‘President George W. Bush Predicted Our Pandemic Response In 2005’
The plan the President set in motion was vast, and expensive. His initial vision came with a $7 billion price tag, and some inside his staff thought this was a low priority. In the wake of 9/11, with war taking place, some felt that preparing for something that wasn’t at our doorstep was foolish. But President Bush said:
“If we wait for a pandemic to appear, it will be too late to prepare. And one day many lives could be needlessly lost because we failed to act today.”
The President delivered a speech at the National Institutes of Health, where he laid out his vision. But not just his vision of what our response should look like, but what the impacts of a pandemic would like like to our country:
“A pandemic is a lot like a forest fire. If caught early it might be extinguished with limited damage. If allowed to smolder, undetected, it can grow to an inferno that can spread quickly beyond our ability to control it.”……
“Part of President Bush’s plan in 2005 was to build a massive stockpile of medication, and personal protective equipment, or PPE, which is in short supply right now, as Bush predicted it would be. The plan also included building a massive national stockpile of ventilators and face masks. One of the other pillars of the plan included an “early warning system” for emerging pandemics around the globe.”

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – The U.S. Justice Department and other federal agencies on Thursday called on the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to revoke China Telecom (Americas) Corp’s authorization to provide international telecommunications services to and from the United States.
China Telecom is the U.S. subsidiary of a People’s Republic of China (PRC) state-owned telecommunications company. Last year, two U.S. senators asked the FCC to review approvals of China Telecom and China Unicom to operate in the United States.
The FCC last May voted unanimously to deny another state-owned Chinese telecommunications company, China Mobile Ltd, the right to provide services in the United States, citing risks that the Chinese government could use the approval to conduct espionage against the U.S. government, It said then that it was “looking” at the licenses of China Telecom and China Unicom.

fish 730am – thank you for that pick-up Mr fish, I too was a devotee of Mad Magazine in bygone years, and some of the stories stick with to this day. One was the comparison of movie western gunfighter heroes with the real gunfighters of the old west who were mostly do-nothing layabouts. The Mad story featured ‘Lance Sterling’ as hero wearing his glittering rig with two-gun, silver-studded fast draw holsters, and perfect teeth. In real life the gunfighter was really a drabby disheveled trouble-maker named John Smurd who carried his gun stuck in his pants belt on his belly. When Lance drew and fired, it was so fast that the frame shouted ‘Blam, Six-Times!!’ and then Lance rode off into the sunset. Smurd drew his hogsleg and ripped his shirt, and his victory was celebrated with his public hanging in front of a cheering crowd. Those were fun stories drawn with excellent craftmanship and artistry.

Members of Australia’s governing coalition have given tacit backing to U.S. President Donald Trump’s move to defund the World Health Organization (WHO), saying their country’s own situation would be a lot worse if they had not ignored the “politicised” UN agency’s advice to allow travel from China in the pandemic’s early stages.
Australia, like the United States, moved relatively quickly to ban travel from China — despite its heavy dependence on trade with the communist dictatorship — regardless of WHO director-general Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesu claiming such bans would “unnecessarily interfere with international travel and trade” and should not be implemented.

Further, Atkinson released the letter to Congress even after the acting director of National Intelligence (his direct superior) and legal counsel at the Department of Justice determined that the complaint letter failed to meet the legal threshold required for it to be shared with Congress.
So Atkinson, in the president’s view, was wrong on two judgment calls — first, on whether or not the letter itself was “urgent and credible,” and, second, when Atkinson chose to ignore his superior’s judgment and the judgment of the Department of Justice counsel who considered the matter.
