[Now that we're back to mudball fights, we should take them to a fresh sandbox.  I'm constantly amused by our lefty readers not refuting/citing the facts but simply dismissing them on the basis of their dislike of the publisher or broadcaster.  Haven't seen rightwinger dismiss what came out of Maddow simply because it came out of Maddow, who can report verifiable facts as well as the next talking head.  But some of us do take Maddow et al with a dim view when they offer their opinions and interpretations as being something more than the views from their respective perches.  gjr]

    Don @ 8:17 pm.
Good story. Thank you. Other recent passings include Bill Withers and Kenny Rogers. Wasn’t a huge fan of either, but probably never gave them a chance.
    -Story number 1:
Around 1973. Guy asks me if I want get into a concert for free. Venue was about the size of a high school auditorium, maybe 800 seats. All I had to do was escort folks to their seats and then sit down and take a seat when the show starts. That’s all. “Cool, I’m in.”
A dude walks out on the stage. No backup musicians if memory serves me correctly. Sat on a stool, reached down to his guitar case, picked it up, tuned for a few seconds, and started singing and playing his music into the mic. It was Bill Withers. Oh, the seat I saved for myself (and a couple of friends) was front row center. Lean On Me was ok, but I remember Grandma’s Hands for some reason, again from Foggy Bottom memory.
I walked folks to their seats and saw Withers, Seals and Crofts (thumbs down, I was into the faster beats and their singing made my ears hurt, lol ), and Dan Licks and his Hot Licks. Dan Hicks and those Hot Licks are the most famous alumni from SF State, Mr. Boardman’s alma mater…ok, maybe that lady who does voiceovers for Lois on The Family Guy is the most famous.
RIP Bill Withers. Looking at your bio, you were the real deal. Grandma’s hands. Ain’t no sunshine when you’re gone.

    Story #2.
Now is around 1977? In Portland. One day co-worker and fellow vagabond sez “Hey, lets blow this popcorn stand and head to Vegas. “Let’s go, I’m in”. Pointed the old bucket of bolts $175.00 1965 Ford Fairlane down the long lonesome highway. Am radio playing “You picked a fire time to leave me Lucile” and we were singing along….”four hungry children and a crop in the field.”
Pull into Lost Wages. Smack dab Downtown. One story casino, had penny machines, soup line, place probably long gone. Anyway, we walk in about two in the heat of the day. Started playing the slots (nickel, quarters) and people are wandering about pulling the one armed bandits. There was a dude on the stage singing with his guitar, but nobody was paying attention to him. Nobody, barely background noise.
Then the dude starts singing, “You picked a fine time leave me, Lucille, four hungry children…..”
Yep. It was Kenny Rogers making his comeback from the Kenny Rogers and the 5th Dimension days. And nobody even gave him a glance. That always will stick in my mind. Kenny Rogers playing in a shithole off Strip hole-in-wall dive in the middle ofa weekday afternoon and I appeared to be the only one who ever heard that song…and I wouldn’t have except listening to whatever music I could find driving across the desert…The women folk loved his love songs.

John Prine, Grammy-winning singer-songwriter, dead at 73 from coronavirus complications
“Born in the Chicago suburb of Maywood, Illinois, in 1946, Prine learned to play guitar from his older brother. At age 23, after serving in the Army during the Vietnam War, Prine was working as a mailman and playing his original songs at the Chicago folk club The Fifth Peg. Young journalist Roger Ebert dropped in one night and penned a stellar review for the Chicago Sun-Times, helping to launch Prine’s music career.“

What’s a good Republican to do? Start with forcing an election in Wisconsin during a pandemic, refusing to move the election to June, and eliminating polling stations. On Friday, Milwaukee election officials announced the city would open only five polling locations for the Wisconsin primary on Tuesday, April 7. The city typically has 180 voting cites, but axed other locations due to mass poll worker shortages.
And Trump says that mail in voting is totally corrupt but he does it.

Mary, Mary Quite Contrary, how does your garden grow.
Perhaps you should take you grievance to the Wisconsin State Supreme Court which ruled that the Governor of the Great State of Wisconsin.does not have the authority to change the election date. It’s one of those State constitutionally issues kinda of thangs.
Besides, it’s just a meaningless Dem primary and no one cares. It’s not like a real race is going on. We all know the Dem voters of America have chosen Decrepit Joe, slayer of Corn Pop, to lead the Dems to glorious victory in the fall. I know, I now. Orange Man Bad is going to cancel the November elections according to your beloved Enemy of the People.

re: Mary “Reporter: You were highly critical of mail in voting”
You don’t understand what the argument is about. Dunno how it works in the UK or elsewhere. This isn’t about mail-in voting, but expanding mail-in voting. Both sides will take a stance on tactics that favor their candidates.
Generally, any voting mechanism that makes it easier for less enthusiastic (or intelligent) voters to vote favors Democrats. You can pretty much count on the Tea Partistas and the urban upper middle class (what used to be mainline Protestants before they became a quasi-religion of ‘Progressives’) to vote, not so much the urban poor, people in convalescent hospitals, the non-felons in homeless shelters. The way that mail-in voting is expanded is the crux of the matter and the (D)s are more well suited to take advantage. They’ve always been famous for sending out an army to ‘help’ the incompetent elderly to vote, no doubt the DNC has a cache of N95 masks ready to go for this effort.
lol, just a few months ago I got to hear from Blue Mobsters that I know how Trump was going to delay the elections for some nefarious reason.
The end game will be a page on Snapchat that allows everyone to vote all the time.

billt: “Besides, it’s just a meaningless Dem primary and no one cares. It’s not like a real race is going on.”
Generally, I’d say this isn’t about the primary, but about permanently changing the rules for voting. The Democrats keep their eye on the ball and like all of the goodies that Pelosi&Co tried to rush through along with an emergency trillion dollar bill, this is a chance to solidify some voting gains.
I hate to say it (it’s obvious) but anything that lowers the friction of voting favors the Free Shit Army. Personally, I’d go the other direction and have at least the equivalent of a drivers license test for voting rights (and full citizenship rights for that matter), but it’s way too late for that.
My guess is, in the long run, that increasing automation and the growth of either guaranteed income or make-work jobs will result in increasingly autocratic governments. Somebody has to keep the lid on and group decisions by an ever-increasing welfare class will give you unacceptable results.

Take a number and stand in line to petition your grievance before the Wisconsin Supreme Court. Oh, that’s right. You have not been affected by the State’s top court ruling and thus have no sanding before the court, not to mention lack of injury and not being a party to any further petition of regress. We are (still?) a national of laws with 50 different labs of the Great Experiment. In short, you are non- essential as welll as persona non grata in Wisconsin.
It’s a burn day! To hip, the pyro in me beckons. Here, get these quotes out of the way. Later gator, chomp, chomp, How have you enjoyed your month of free Socialism? BTW, on April 1, 2020, your man Creepy Joe finally got around to saying closing our borders and imposing travel bans is a good idea, lol. Looks like flip-flopped and good thing he did. Go Joe, go! To where, I haven’t a clue. Quotes:
Insight: “And remember, where you have a concentration of power in a few hands, all too frequently men with the mentality of gangstersget control. History has proven that. All power corrupts; absolute power corrupts absolutely.” —Lord Acton (1834-1902)
Observations: “There isn’t much point in trying to talk rationally to a guy in an asylum who thinks he is Napoleon. Likewise, there probably isn’t much point in trying to talk rationally to a Democratic politician or activist in 2020 America.” —John Hinderaker
Wandering minds want to know: “Washington’s money-printing appears on track to exceed anything attempted in 2008 or 2009. … Huge deficits entirely financed by the Fed to offset a government-engineered economic collapse — are we sure Bernie Sanders didn’t win in 2016?” —James Freeman
Political futures: “You have seen, at the national level, Democrats try to push election agendas, like ballot harvesting, which certainly isn’t safe going door to door to collect ballots, or things like getting rid of absentee witness ID requirements. So, those are things we’re going to push back on.” —RNC Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel
Every stop to wonder why? “Those who have always been at the short end of the stick, in a moment of crisis, it becomes even more evident, and in this case even more fatal.” —Sen. Kamala Harris
Dezinformatsiya: “U.S. reports 1,264 coronavirus deaths in over 24 hours. Meanwhile in China, where the pandemic broke out, not a single new coronavirus death was reported.” —NBC News (“Fun fact: China also never reported a single death at Tiananmen Square.” —David Burge)
Verbal gymnastics: “We cannot let this, we’ve never allowed any crisis from the Civil War straight through to the pandemic of 17, all the way around, 16, we have never, never let our democracy sakes [sic] second fiddle, way they, we can both have a democracy, an elections [sic], and at the same time correct the public health.” —Joe Biden
Non compos mentis: “Realistically, COVID-19 will be here for the next 18 months or more. We will not be able to return to normalcy until we find a vaccine or effective medications. I know that’s dreadful news to hear. How are people supposed to find work if this goes on in some form for a year and a half? Is all that economic pain worth trying to stop COVID-19? The truth is we have no choice.” —ObamaCare architect Ezekiel Emanuel
And last… “Ask yourself when you want to do something good for your fellow man, do you write a check to a local charity or send in some extra to the government?” —Peter Heck

It isn’t ‘overconsumption’, it’s merely ‘consumption’. I’ll pay attention to the Global WarmingCooling people when they admit that the problem is overpopulation. The moment that they are in favor of carpet bombing the Third World with condoms and blocking mass immigration to the First World, I’ll know it’s actually a meaningful concern to the climate changers.
In the meantime, it’s just a combination hobby project and virtue signalling to buy some Chinese-made solar panels for your ‘green’ house.

COLLEGE…..!! An opinion in concurrence with that of our genial host!

IS THIS AMERICA’S TURNING POINT? The answers from Robert E. Wright of the American Institute for Economic Research (AIER) are blunt and likely to anger all the usual suspects. Take this graph for instance:
“As I recently argued elsewhere, America’s educational system has not prepared us for the government power grab because it does not create enough Emersonian independent thinkers or, frankly, even adult thinkers. Due to the extreme Left bias of higher education, many of America’s college graduates remain intellectually infantilized to the point that they can do little more than Tweet ignorant hate at any idea that does not accord with Progressive mantras.”

Too severe a judgement? I think not, but what do other Instapunditites think? And what a neat shot of the shark!
