rcross is not Robert Cross. Robert Cross is currently marching down Commercial Street with his pink hat on and his phone is in the pocket of his vagina costume. He is too busy to post at the moment.
Good thing it is not raining hard and he just got back from the big march in Sacramento In 2017, wandering around the Safeway parking lot looking for his car that was impounded and still in his vagina outfit looking rather like….like….Roberta.
    Nasty woman.

Todd – The article actually stated that “Burning just one gallon of gasoline will result in the emission of about 20 pounds of carbon dioxide into our atmosphere.”
IC (internal combustion) engines don’t just use gasoline as fuel. They also use the stuff that flows through your air cleaner. In the chemical reaction that occurs during the combustion cycle (part of it, anyway – there’s all sorts of reactions going on) 2 atoms of oxygen combine with 1 atom of carbon and produce CO2. The trees and plants we need for our survival love CO2.
Now – how many tons of CO2 come from other sources we have no control over?
And how does our planet and its atmosphere deal with all this CO2?
Those are questions we are not supposed to worry about. Al Gore has all the answers.
    Trust him.

Ever notice that when they do those those for emissions from those national groups, they always use older cars. Newer cars bring down the emissions and up the per mile per gallon. They need to get up to date.

When you write ” California has already pioneered such a one-party future ….” you verify my concerns that because of the incompetence of the Republican Party Californians are deprived of practical and pragmatic
conservative viewpoints and we end up with such legislation as
ab5 that passed without serious opposition.
Too bad the Republicans were outsmarted by the Dems to this extent. Of course the Dems in California we greatly aided by the Trump event that has rendered the Repubs extinct except in deep rural regions that no longer includes Nevada County,

PaulE 125pm – Hard to argue with the fundamentals of you oft-repeated points. But given the two competing ideologies – one of individual responsibility, entrepreneurial spirit, hard work, meritocratic rewards, etc vs the promise of social justice that views the haves as having gotten theirs from the have-nots, and now need to have theirs clawed back, redistributed, fairly divided, … – you have to admit that the Democrat message is the more appealing to those who can’t or won’t. Unfortunately, with the advance of technology, the latter cohort has a natural tendency to increase given the vicissitudes of nature which differentiate us. With such an advantage it’s easy to “outsmart” Republicans, who by nature are drawn to a more personal vs public expression of their ideology. (BTW, we were discussing this topic again at the recent open house of the Nevada County Republican HQ.) Hence the exodus and the sorry state of Republican affairs – no one has put forth a plan for the party’s resurgence.
Therefore, I give you the joy of your political dominance with which you and your continue to preen and pluck what’s left of the Golden Goose, an enterprise that has a very predictable ending.

Perhaps it isn’t a matter of preening, but simply self-preservation.
My guess is that if you split the writers on this blog into Team Red and Team Blue, Team Red pretty solidly falls into the group of people who either designed or produced things of practical value. Team Blue played guitar in bars, ‘worked’ in non-profits, or taught a class or two. Simply put, a Progressive approach puts money in Team Blue’s pockets while a Conservative one takes it away.

What’s the big deal? Plausible deniability was coined by the CIA during the Kennedy administration to describe the withholding of information from senior officials in order to protect them from repercussions in the event that illegal or unpopular activities by the CIA became public knowledge.
It is SOP for Presidents. Look at Reagan during Iran Contra. He claims he didn’t know about the funding of the contras etc. I never hear a peep from you about that historical gem. And of course Clinton denied having sex with “that woman” and Bush didn’t know anything about anything concerning WMD’s or Abu Ghraib or the disgusting exploitation of Pat Tillman for propaganda purposes that involved even lying to his family about the nature of his death. We can go back to WWII and Roosevelt denying any knowledge of the imminent attack on Pearl Harbor. My uncle is a Pearl Harbor survivor and is convinced along with most other survivors that they were sacrificed to allow the Japanese to bomb them to create an overwhelming reason to go to war.
I think the actions of the NSA are disgusting and the whole lot should be cleared out but don’t blame Obama TRUMP 2020 without at least putting this in some kind of “business as usual” historical perspective.

    ITS “SOP”…..”SOP” I TELLS YA!!!

Look what mayor pete did for his city, just think what he would do to the country if he had the chance –
South Bend’s police department instituted a series of diversity and anti-discrimination training sessions in 2017. The training sessions took place as violent crime surged in the city, reaching the highest level in 20 years in 2018. The training extended far beyond the immediate issues facing the city and instead lectured cops on policing their own language to be sensitive to “isms.”
The training slides for one of the sessions contained a list of nefarious “isms” that allegedly perpetuate prejudice and power dynamics. The denounced “isms” include familiar issues such as racism and sexism along with such topics as “sizeism,” “languageism,” and “materialism.”
During his eight-year tenure as mayor, Buttigieg struggled with South Bend’s rising crime rate and the deteriorating relationship between the city’s police and black community. The city’s problems spilled into the national spotlight when a South Bend police officer fatally shot a black resident in June, forcing the mayor to leave the campaign trail and fly home.
The slides for one of the sessions urged officers to avoid the use of “ableist” terms, such as “hearing-impaired.”
“HEARING-IMPAIRED: an inappropriate term commonly used by hearing individuals referring to those who are Deaf,” one slide read. “Considered offensive; implying that their hearing is broken, and needs to be fixed.”
The South Bend Police Department did not respond to request for comment.
The training slides were first obtained by Judicial Watch, a conservative-leaning government watchdog. Tom Fitton, the group’s president, said the mayor’s office had prioritized political ideology over public safety.
“These documents show how South Bend police under Mayor Buttigieg had to contend with politicized ‘training’ that had nothing to do with the public safety,” he said in a statement.
The training slides cited “Cumulative Perceptual Index theory” to explain the origins of bigotry and biases. A Google Scholar search of the term turned up no results of media or academic writing on the theory. Professional Consulting Associates, the consulting firm that created the slides, did not respond to requests for comments.
The presentation also addressed the Black Lives Matter movement. One slide, for example, supports the idea that police do not treat all races equally and alludes to an “all lives matter” mantra that BLM has condemned.
“Black lives do indeed matter, but no more, and certainly no less than the lives of every community within law enforcement’s jurisdictions,” the slide said. “The perceptual proof of that belief is unquestionably not universally present today because such a Vision is not yet universally shared by law enforcement.”
The training sessions took place as South Bend dealt with historically high violent crime rates that peaked in 2018, the latest full year of data available. Roughly 1,200 violent crimes occurred in the city of 102,000 residents. The growing crime rate was driven by a nearly four-fold increase in aggravated assault since Buttigieg assumed office. It is unclear what effect, if any, the diversity training sessions had in improving policing in the city.
The Buttigieg campaign did not respond to request for comment.

Another failed prediction by the po’ ol’ fakenewsman –
The “Never Trump” movement had once hoped to embarrass President Donald Trump in 2020 with a primary challenge that would expose the president’s weaknesses within his own party.
But Trump’s GOP opponents are failing to even get on the ballot in many states, let alone gain traction with Republican voters.
With the start of primary season just weeks away, Trump rivals Joe Walsh and Bill Weld are ceding an array of key battlegrounds. Walsh won’t be competing in more than half of the 30 states and territories whose filing deadlines have already passed, while Weld won’t be contending 12 of them. The latest blow came Wednesday, when the two missed the deadline to make the Virginia ballot, making Trump the sole contender.
It’s the latest reminder of Trump’s vice-like grip on the GOP — and how any hint of opposition within the party has been extinguished. Even before a single contest has been held, the president has already gone a long way toward securing renomination: He will be the only candidate on the ballot in nine states that collectively account for nearly one-third of the delegates needed.
