Do tell –
Months before a whistleblower complaint that would spark the Democrat effort for impeachment, a shadowy liberal group founded and staffed by Obama administration alums and former Democrat congressional staffers launched an outside investigation into whether President Trump’s allies were seeking “foreign interference” from Ukraine in the 2020 elections.
The group, American Oversight, began investigating the issue in May — more than two months before the “whistleblower” filed a complaint alleging Trump was “using the power of his office to solicit interference from a foreign country to investigate one of the President’s main domestic political rivals.”
The Trump administration won’t know what hit them. Independent FOIA litigation paired with aggressive congressional oversight creates a nightmare for federal agencies because of the different levers litigants and members of Congress can pull to enforce their demands.
The group was founded in March 2017 by Austin Evers, a former senior counsel during the Obama State Department, to counter the Trump administration using FOIA
The group claims to be non-partisan, but most of its staff have worked for Democrat administrations, lawmakers, or groups. The group’s senior adviser, Melanie Sloan, is a former federal prosecutor and Capitol Hill staffer who worked for now Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) and then Sen. Joe Biden (D-DE). She founded the left-wing watchdog group Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics (CREW) and ran it for more than a decade.

I think you misunderstand Paul. The primary focus of Emerianism is to be against things, never for them (such as the ecology). It’s darned hard to make a case for public policy of any kind much less make it work so the KVMR news crew tends to bring it’s vast expertise into saying why people or policies are bad/evil/Nazi/misogynist/ableist/racist/etc.

This is getting soooo repetitive it is actually boring. New York Slimes:
The Times’ disgraceful smear of America’s top defense officials
“Notably, The Washington Post offered an entirely different account the next day. Yes, it reported, “Trump’s decision to target Soleimani came as a surprise and a shock to some officials” — because of “the president’s aversion to using military force against Iran.”
Plus: Secretary of State Mike Pompeo “first spoke with Trump about killing Soleimani months ago, said a senior US official,” the Post reported — and Defense Secretary Mark Esper agreed with Pompeo by the time Trump made the decision.
And, as the Times itself reported days later, CIA chief Gina Haspel had advised “that the threat the Iranian general presented was greater than the threat of Iran’s response if he was killed” — and, in fact, “had predicted the most likely response would be a missile strike from Iran to bases where American troops were deployed.”
But that doesn’t excuse the original story. If the Times wants to stop hearing the words “fake news,” it needs to take more care not to publish it.“

Oopsie.
I have to say that the great irony of my life was the moment that Russia Today, no doubt related to the Russian government in the same way that BBC is to the UK, was a superior news source than the New York Times.
I do have a theory on the declining quality of news writing generally. Given the collapse in ad revenue and the need to generate scads of short form ‘news’ articles (partly due to the use of cell phones as a reading device), you end up with squadrons of low paid (or no paid) interns and kids just out of college as ‘reporters’. Low life experience, no contacts in the real world, lotsa stupid political opinions (a privilege of youth) can’t help a bit.
It’s certainly no excuse for the FUE or the NYT, but likely explains a lot of what you see.

David Brooks: ‘Trump Has Made Us All Stupid’
“New York Times “conservative” columnist David Brooks claimed on Thursday that “Trump Has Made Us All Stupid.” Brooks admits that liberals are now acting really really stupid (as well as loony) but that the fault lies with President Donald Trump.”
“But the events of the past week have shown that the anti-Trump echo chamber is becoming a mirror image of Trump himself — overwrought, uncalibrated and incapable of having an intelligent conversation about any complex policy problem.”
“Pssst! Making liberals looks like loons really took no effort on the part of Trump since it was a pre-existing condition. It should go without saying that with this shot at liberals, his minders at the PBS NewsHour didn’t ask him about this column on Friday night! “

But what about those embassies?
Mark ‘Oz’ Geist: Trump’s decisive leadership would have saved my Benghazi team.
“I fought to defend the American diplomatic post and CIA annex in Benghazi for more than 13 hours against a determined, organized assault by dozens of Al Qaeda fanatics armed with belt-fed machine guns, rocket-propelled grenade launchers, and heavy mortars.
The Obama administration’s mishandling of this attack — which resulted in the first murder of a U.S. ambassador in the line of duty since the 1970s — was a far cry from the Trump administration’s decisive response to threats against our embassy in Iraq.
The basic facts should be enough to dismiss any serious comparison. My team and I were told to “stand down” no fewer than three times in the face of what the media later called “protesters” — even as Americans, including Ambassador J. Christopher Stevens, were being killed and maimed by the terrorists. No U.S. military reaction force was sent, despite our numerous requests for help. Only by our own tenacity and courage were more than 30 Americans able to escape with our lives…..
Rather than scramble to defend a lie [Obama, Susan Rice, Hillary], and relying on solid intel of impending attacks, President Trump quickly struck back to ensure that our enemies understood the consequences of attacking an American embassy. Iranian Gen. Qassem Soleimani, the man most responsible for fomenting those militias in Iraq, paid the ultimate price for underestimating those consequences. Throughout the region, his compatriots are quickly learning similar lessons.
Effective leadership can be easy to overlook when it’s practiced by one’s own side. But our enemies never mistake strong American leadership for weakness. Far from being comparable, the contrast in leadership between Benghazi and Baghdad is striking. President Trump’s leadership style will keep Americans in the Middle East and elsewhere safe. I know from experience that the alternative is unacceptable.”

Vladimir Putin endorses 2020 Democrats energy policy
“The fact is that today’s technologies of shale oil and shale gas production are, without any exaggeration, barbaric and bad for the environment,” Putin said. “In some areas of shale oil production, people get black slurry instead of tap water in their homes. We will never use such production technology, no matter how lucrative it may be.”
Like most of the time, Putin is lying here. There is no evidence that shale extraction, properly regulated, is more risky to public health than other conventional energy extraction methods. And no one is getting “black slurry” out of their tap.
But the lie is part of Putin’s campaign — backed by ample political meddling and Russian cash — to undercut fracking in Europe and in the United States. Putin opposes fracking because it is putting a global price ceiling on Russian energy exports and giving Europe a new measure of independence from Russian energy.
“That puts Putin in undeniable alignment with top Democrats. You know, the same Democrats who otherwise claim that they will oppose the Russian leader if elected president. On this, they will do his bidding. Like Putin, Democrats allege that fracking hurts the environment and undercuts green energy jobs. As noted, the first claim is false. And the second claim is also a lie: Green jobs are economically noncompetitive absent generous subsidies.
As with Putin’s statements last week, there’s another truth which Democrats should heed: In pushing their hard-line anti-energy stance, they are playing right into the hands of America’s second-most powerful adversary.”

WALTER E. WILLIAMS: The New Racism
This is the new racism, much of it learned and taught at our nation’s colleges. George Orwell said, “Some ideas are so stupid that only intellectuals believe them.” The stupid ideas about inclusion and diversity originate with academics on college campuses. If their ideas didn’t infect the rest of society, they might be a source of entertainment. But these cancerous ideas have infected society. Statements such as “I’m over white men running the country,” or “If we have two old white guys at the top of this ticket, we will lose” are examples of that cancer.
Last year, Philip Carl Salzman wrote “The War Against White People” in Minding the Campus. He declared: “Anti-white hate is now mainstream American culture. Not just by racial extremists such as Black Lives Matter, for whom statements such as “all lives matter” or “blue lives matter” are racist. Our highest leaders sing the same song.”
“The bottom line is that the new racism, born in academia, is just as ugly as the old racism.”
