Well, I’ll start it out with Myron Magnet’s ‘Hate Crime is only a step away from Thoughtcrime’.
https://www.wsj.com/articles/hate-crime-is-only-a-step-away-from-thoughtcrime-11577905525
There Mr Magnet argues “Punishing people, even criminals, for ideas is inimical to the American tradition of free speech. … Properly, the law should ask only two questions about your state of mind. First, do you have the faculty of reason that allows you to distinguish right from wrong? Second, did you intend to do the crime you committed? Beyond that, as James Madison repeatedly insisted, you have freedom of conscience. You can believe whatever you want, however politically incorrect—especially since today’s political correctness may be deemed tyranny in retrospect. In a far-flung republic composed of various subgroups, multiple viewpoints and interests are bound to proliferate. Under such circumstances, toleration is required.”
Have not our leftwing commenters been the promoters of that last step for all these years?

Oh course they have. Peace on Earth, goodwill toward man. Live and let live and do your own thing. And Happy New Year to all the Rebanites, near and far. They just come over here to bring us some Tiny Tim pudding. They are most kind. I have misinterpreted their intentions. Mea Culpa. Tolerance is the word I think of when I hear “our leftwing commenters.”

Revealing the Real Cause of Deep State Corruption
“How could this strategy be something concocted by liberal Harvard law professor Laurence Tribe? How could other purportedly respected liberal law professors such as Noah Feldman and Pamela Karlan support the transparently absurd impeachment theories of the House Democrats?
Could it be that the explanation for this is also something of an answer to the question of why so many Democrat officials of blue state cities are emboldened to defy our immigration restrictions, or why blue state officials believe they can ignore the federal government’s laws on cannabis, or even the Constitution’s Second Amendment protection of the right to bear arms?
Is there a parallel between Pelosi’s flaunting of the Constitution and its structure and President Barack Obama’s decision that he could implement DACA without the benefit of federal legislation?
What is it that has made the federal Constitution so plastic, that has empowered so many Democrats – many of them educated at our finest law schools – to believe that the clear constitutional provisions regarding the separation of powers and the limitations on the federal government could be ignored?”…
“Once one abandons the original understanding as a means of advancing the rule of law, however, the way is opened for any Supreme Court justice, bureaucrat, or legislator convinced that he has access to a higher truth than the Constitution’s Framers or the sovereign people who ratified their work, to ignore the strictures of our fundamental law and to promote arbitrarily whatever policies are ideologically or personally more pleasing.
That arbitrary behavior, however, is what leads to corruption, an abandonment of the rule of law, the ending of popular sovereignty, and ultimately to tyranny. This country is threatened by a loss of its constitutional system, and of the morality that the Framers believed must undergird it. The threat does not come, however, from the occupant of the White House, but from those who would seek to expel him.”

Thanks to GregG for the heads up on the comment stream that follows Mr George Boardman’s latest column here –
https://www.theunion.com/opinion/columns/george-boardman-no-lack-of-candidates-for-the-you-cant-make-this-stuff-up-awards/
As usual, it’s most revealing about our local Left’s disdain for everything that goes on here. The disdain is painted with a broad brush – for example, our critics loudly claim that we all speak with but a single reprehensible voice, where anything but that is true. I’ll use myself as an example – they are not able to distinguish between my contributions on RR (a “cesspool”) and those of other commenters.
And yet they gather here daily in increasing numbers to participate in a battle of wits, for which almost all of them arrive unarmed. Well not quite, their main (only?) weapon is the strong assertion that accusation is equivalent to evidence, which gains credibility with the number of accusers.

Media Continues With Awful Hot Takes About the ‘Terrifying’ Armed Churchgoers in Texas Shooting
“ In other words, he’s [Jack Wilson] exactly the kind of man you want around with a firearm. But we know nothing about the at least six other parishioners who also appeared to draw their handguns at West Freeway Church of Christ in White Settlement, Texas.
And that’s terrifying.
That’s pure fear-mongering. A little journalistic effort would yield some information about the other churchgoers, but what major newspaper has time for that anymore?
For the purpose of pedaling pure propaganda, it’s much easier for the MSM to remain ignorant and almost outright say that one of the other churchgoers might be a danger with a weapon.
Anti-gun propaganda is, of course, rooted in ignorance. Gun-haters don’t know anything about firearms or gun owners. Lacking any reality-based (I’m hyphenating a lot today, aren’t I?) points of reference, it’s easy for them to confuse the random psycho shooters with the rest of us.”

In the “birds of a feather” dept.: Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Wednesday he would seek immunity from corruption charges, likely delaying any trial until after March elections, when he hopes to have a majority coalition that will shield him from prosecution. Netanyahu was indicted in November on charges of accepting bribes, fraud and breach of trust.
from the BBC –I report you decide..no name calling involved, unless of course as retaliation in kind.

George 7:10: Netanyahu was indicted in November on charges of accepting bribes, fraud and breach of trust. Let’s break that down.
1) accepting bribes: The issues surrounding Trump and the emoluments clause could be and has been, by people professing to be ‘legal experts,’ interpreted as accepting bribes.
2) fraud: Trump University and the Trump foundation were both found guilty of fraud and Trump was fined.
3) breach of trust: abuse of power is a breach of trust, this is what the entire episode of impeachment is all about.
The difference is that Trump has yet to be indicted for emoluments violations. Otherwise the charges against both men are very similar and they are political buddies and supporters. That is the basis on which I see Trump and Netanyahu as birds of a feather.

I am confused. One say to remember Trump has no friends, followed by another that says Trump and Putin are best buddies. Then another comes along and calls little Rocketman Trump’s good buddy. And now the Israeli Prime Minister. But I thought Trump as no friends.
—————-
Bottomline: If this is the first day of the new year (it is), all I can say is this is going to be one heck of a year. I fear our leftwing commentators will not make it until November. Got some serious doubts they will make it past summer, judging how they have been behaving the last couple of days. One can feel it. I bet they start rioting and busting things up well before Trump’s Re-election Victory Rally in Toledo. Well before. They are a powder keg and ready to blow.
Wonder what Day 2 of 2020 will bring.

,,, In a long-forgotten era — say, four years ago — such a question would have elicited a very different answer. Though there was disagreement over specific issues, most Republicans would have said the party stood for some basic principles: fiscal sanity, free trade, strong on Russia, and that character and personal responsibility count. Today it’s not that the Republican Party has forgotten these issues and values; instead, it actively opposes all of them.
Republicans are now officially the character doesn’t count party, the personal responsibility just proves you have failed to blame the other guy party, the deficit doesn’t matter party, the Russia is our ally party, and the I’m-right-and-you-are-human-scum party. Yes, it’s President Trump’s party now, but it stands only for what he has just tweeted.
A party without a governing theory, a higher purpose or a clear moral direction is nothing more than a cartel, a syndicate that exists only to advance itself. There is no organized, coherent purpose other than the acquisition and maintenance of power…

“Hans Himmler said: George- You made a blatantly false claim and jon called you on it. Got a problem with that? Of course you do. No room for disobedience here.”
As we can tell, this sackhead confirms with his “no room for disobedience here” that he is a liar. RR has always accepted questioning of its “claims”, even dubiously substantiated ones. My ideas are always open to challenge, but why would I field a blog for people whose only ‘talent’ is flinging ad hominems at me? Most leftwingers have picked up on this. Re : Why Trump will lose in 2020. Can’t argue with that, no siree. All I have is unreliable anecdotal tidbits worthless on their face, not scientific evidence or deep data mining that the experts relied on in 2016. Heck, Hillary relied solely on data and Trump never bothered to hire a pollster for the first seven months of his campaign. Animalistic instincts. Gut feeling. Just a hunch is all I got.
One man’s opinion.
VDH: Why Trump will win again in 2020
“It is easy to say that 2020 seems to be replaying 2016, complete with the identical insularity of progressives, as if what should never have happened then certainly cannot now. But this time around there is an even greater sense of anger and need for retribution especially among the most unlikely Trump supporters. It reflects a fed-up payback for three years of nonstop efforts to overthrow an elected president, anger at anti-Trump hysteria and weariness at being lectured. A year is a proverbial long time. The economy could tank. The president might find himself trading missiles with Iran. At 73, a sleep-deprived, hamburger-munching Trump might discover his legendary stamina finally giving out. Still, there is a growing wrath in the country, either ignored, suppressed or undetected by the partisan media. It is a desire for a reckoning with ‘them’. For lots of quiet, ordinary people, 2020 is shaping up as the get-even election — in ways that transcend even Trump himself.”

WINNING! –
WASHINGTON (AP) — President Donald Trump’s campaign said Thursday that it raised $46 million in the last quarter of 2019 and had $102.7 million on hand as the election year begins.
The sum far exceeds what Democratic candidates, who are embroiled in a hotly contested primary, have reported so far for the final three months of 2019. In addition, tens of millions of dollars are expected to have been raised by the Republican National Committee and other affiliated groups, which will report their finances later this month.

It sounds like everyone is just either madder at Trump, or madder at Trump-haters. I wonder how many votes switch? People who thought from Day One that Trump was a Nazi, racist, crooked, sadistic, misogynous, gay-hatin’, rebel flag waving white supremacist (or whatever Tourette’s sequence of the day they got cookin’) might as well just have mailed in the 2020 votes in 2016.
Everybody is pretty good at selling soap so I guess it remains to be seen whether open-borders and crazy-crossdressers-reading-to-kids is strong enough to carry the day. Team Blue sure ain’t gonna win on the economy, war starting, or who has the purtiest First Lady (although Michelle had such beautiful arms).
Maybe global warmingcooling can get some traction, seeing as how the world should end by 2015. Given the lessening greenhouse output from the US, plus the somewhat small fraction of global greenhouse that actually comes from the US, it’s hard to see how, but facts shouldn’t get in the way. Population control in China and India and Africa would be a good start but racist no doubt.
