[The Union tells us that there will be demonstrations 'Striking for the Earth' at the NC and GV city halls this Friday.  These deluded citizens have no idea that their anthropomorphized Earth doesn't give a big rat's ass about ongoing climate change.  And what still eludes these sincere but factually deficient folks is that consensus science is NOT science – discovering ground truths about our universe is NOT a democratic process.  gjr]

Somehow, I don’t think the Founding Dead White Guys had Californians forcing other Californians to buy cars with fewer seats and smaller engines in mind when they wrote the 10th Amendment… especially with the only automobiles produced in the state being really expensive electric cars with abominable ranges, unable to leap from NorCal to SoCal (or vice versa) in a single bound.

For the interested reader, note the continuing inability of progressives – e.g. Jig Wiggly’s 918am – to parse those climate change skeptics into any other class than “deniers”. Their intellectual spectrum is neither wide nor rich enough to understand the various categories of climate change critiques or the technical perspectives from which they originate. To them it’s you either believe in Santa Claus or you don’t, and their own belief is based on a horribly mangled understanding of the existing ‘scientific consensus’. Of the ‘thousands of scientists’ they cite, even the IPCC explains that only a very few, maybe a handful, understand numerical modeling of complex systems well enough to assess the design and/or verity of the general circulation models upon which all the much publicized and prostituted predictions depend. And you can bet the ranch, that none of those few are willing to bet their ranch on the reliability of the GCM outputs.

Since the states’ rights thread is continued here from the 12sep19 Sandbox, I repost my comment from there –
Arguing states’ rights as a black/white hard-bounded notion is a fool’s errand. States’ rights is one of the most nuanced aspects of the Constitution which the Founders left us and warned us about. It has already caused one massive war (of Southern Independence) in our land. The Left today wants to use it to promote their temporary but effective means of destroying our historical culture, after which you will see no such thing as states’ rights when their new massive Leviathan starts enforcing socialist central planning and control from on high. Meanwhile, their acolytes like PaulE use states’ rights as bait for inconclusive debates that detour more critical examination of any given underlying issue and/or factors.

Individual rights supercede States rights, Punch.
Having the rocket scientists in Sacramento choose your car for you (or, more to the point, choosing my car for me) isn’t my idea of freedom.
Plus, there’s the Interstate Commerce Clause … that the state of California would block automobiles built elsewhere in the country from being sold here is a bona fide ICC issue.

    The Climate Strike
“Or how about something as simple as this: Give up their phones for a day (or, heck, 15 minutes!) to save energy. (Right!)
“Instead, expect stories on Saturday about how much garbage the protesting kids left behind.
“In my Russian-speaking community, people took to Facebook to discuss the similarities they saw to their time in the Soviet Union. One mom posted that the strike is “Soviet-style brainwashing and propaganda” Another mom wrote that the particular issue doesn’t matter; “having children demonstrate on school time was the Soviet way.”

Warren’s healthcare plan taken at face value (as she describes it) will cost over $32T in the first ten years. That money is not there, nor enough of it will come from the rich and corporations as she claims. To date she will not answer the direct question of whether her plan will require raising taxes on the middle class. However, she will not be able to duck that question much longer; one of her clown car colleagues will make her answer it on the debate stage. The Repubs can hardly wait.

Wrong Again: 50 Years of Failed Eco-pocalyptic Predictions
Modern doomsayers have been predicting climate and environmental disaster since the 1960s. They continue to do so today.
None of the apocalyptic predictions with due dates as of today have come true.
What follows is a collection of notably wild predictions from notable people in government and science.
More than merely spotlighting the failed predictions, this collection shows that the makers of failed apocalyptic predictions often are individuals holding respected positions in government and science.
While such predictions have been and continue to be enthusiastically reported by a media eager for sensational headlines, the failures are typically not revisited.

The fifty failures are listed at the URL:
    https://cei.org/blog/wrong-again-50-years-failed-eco-pocalyptic-predictions
Wish we had a tracking function to see who if anyone reads the list of failed climate change predictions? My guess we will have another outbreak of crickets.

    Some highlights –
The dire predictions, often repeated in the media, warned of a variety of impending disasters – famine, drought, an ice age, and even disappearing nations – if the world failed to act on climate change.
An Associated Press headline from 1989 read “Rising seas could obliterate nations: U.N. officials.” The article detailed a U.N. environmental official warning that entire nations would be eliminated if the world failed to reverse warming by 2000.
Then there were the fears that the world would experience a never-ending “cooling trend in the Northern Hemisphere.” That claim came from an “international team of specialists” cited by The New York Times in 1978.
Just years prior, Time magazine echoed other media outlets in suggesting that “another ice age” was imminent. “Telltale signs are everywhere — from the unexpected persistence and thickness of pack ice in the waters around Iceland to the southward migration of a warmth-loving creature like the armadillo from the Midwest,” the magazine warned in 1974. The Guardian similarly warned in 1974 that “Space satellites show new Ice Age coming fast.”
In 1970, The Boston Globe ran the headline, “Scientist predicts a new ice age by 21st century.” The Washington Post, for its part, published a Columbia University scientist’s claim that the world could be “as little as 50 or 60 years away from a disastrous new ice age.”
Some of the more dire predictions came from Paul Ehrlich, a biologist who famously urged population control to mitigate the impacts of humans on the environment. Ehrlich, in 1969, warned that “everybody” would “disappear in a cloud of blue steam in 20 years,” The New York Times reported.
According to The Salt Lake Tribune, Ehrlich, warning of a “disastrous” famine,” urged placing “sterilizing agents into staple foods and drinking water.”

“Justice Department Inspector General Michael Horowitz said Wednesday that House Democrats have not contacted him to testify about his anticipated report on potential FBI surveillance abuse during the Trump-Russia probe.
Republicans quizzed Horowitz at a House Oversight subcommittee about the forthcoming report, which looks at whether the FBI improperly surveilled Trump campaign adviser Carter Page. The report is expected to be released in the next several weeks.”
Republicans used much of the hearing to point out that Democrats have shown little interest in discussing the potential FISA abuse issue. ”
Nope,, they don’t want to discuss how their minions failed, and got caught lying to the courts.

Ooops the masters of the universe AGAIN get caught putting their thumbs on the scale –
Hey @Instagram I’m sure this is totally a coincidence (like all the other total coincidences against conservative accounts) but when I search my actual handle and other variations of my name I don’t show up at all in your search engine, and my father didn’t make it either despite having 14,600,000 followers and the same name as me.
Again I’m sure it’s totally an anomaly so I wanted to share, and I’ve attached screenshots from just now so you can see. A few friends pointed this out to me so I figured I’d reach out as it would seem odd to me that an account with almost 2m followers and The President Of The United States (because he has the same name) doesn’t show up in a search but a lot of accounts with virtually no followers do.

So we have to put up with bullshit bans and we are not the problem! FREE THE STRWS! –
A groundbreaking study conducted by a team of researchers at Germany’s Helmholtz Centre for Environmental Research poured over data on debris from 79 sampling sites along 57 rivers and found that just a handful of rivers in a couple of countries account for an overwhelming majority of the pollutants piling up in our oceans.
“The 10 top-ranked rivers transport 88-95 percent of the global load into the sea,” Dr. Christian Schmidt, a hydrogeologist who headed up the study, told the Daily Mail after the research was published in 2017. “The rivers with the highest estimated plastic loads are characterized by high population – for instance the Yangtze with over half a billion people.”
The study, published in the journal Environmental Science & Technology, said that by cutting plastic pollution in the Yangtze River — the third-longest in the world and located in China — and the Ganges River, located in India, ocean pollution could be reduced by half.
