OK, Swalwell bailed yesterday 8jul19, and today that in/out/in again Tom Steyer threw his hat into the Dems’ candidate carousel ring. Tom Steyer will be #26 in the Dropout Derby, and those who wish can resubmit their dropout lists by inserting Steyer’s number into their existing list with no other changes in their ordering. These will be accepted before the next Dem comes to his senses and hits the silk. And I’ll do this update only once on the scoring and then lock down this competition with 26 declared candidates, 25 remaining as of today. Additional hopefuls will be ignored. The fun has already begun.
[update] Mr Tozer submitted his updated dropout list. You’ll notice that he put Steyer in exactly the same place that I did (we did not consult). The figure below shows the current dropout lists. Those with zeros at the end have not updated and are invited to do so. The ‘CumScore’ row lists the cumulative score to date as the dropout continue. (You’ll note that I’m bringing up the rear.) Recall that each dropout’s score is equal to ((26-1) – miss distance)/(26-1). Miss distance is the absolute value of (dropout list entry – actual dropout location). If you nailed it – miss distance is zero – then your score for that dropout is equal to 1.0 . If you would have put Swalwell (#20) in position 26, you would get a zero score added to your cumulative score. Of course, no one did that, and as the dropouts proceed it will be more difficult to get low scores, but perfect scores will always be possible.
