[I've been mulling over the utility of these sandboxes again.  More and more they have become the repository of tripe, with interesting threads and tidbits thrown in by readers who occasionally demonstrate that their abundant acumen lies mostly fallow.  I wouldn't mind it if some of the other posted topics that interest me would get more discussion, but too many of them go over with the existing cohort of commenters like a fart in church.  Many of the interesting emails on my topics come from readers who apparently don't want to join into the online fray.  So I keep asking myself, why do I host these sandboxes of scurrilous shit-flinging.  No good answers have risen to the surface.  Thoughts?  gjr]

Emery forgets how that went down. Nice try.
Yup, making it impossible for the owners of property to even use
that land on or near the river by REGULATION sure was an incentive
to “buy” the land for cheap.
Ya Emery, Izzy and the gang sure did some arm twisting on that “willing” seller, willing buyer crap. Real willing when you have a county gun to your head.

Well, that’s one way to get Democrat Party votes.
“Virginia Lt. Gov. Justin Fairfax Considering Run For Governor, Says Sex Assault Scandal Raised His Public Profile”
“Of all the Democrats currently involved in a political scandal, Fairfax is the only one who has been accused of something without evidence, and he has denied the sexual assault allegations against him. The first accusation came earlier this year, in February, after it looked like Fairfax may ascend to Virginia governor following the revelation that Gov. Ralph Northam dressed in blackface while in medical school. A second accusation against Fairfax came days later.
“Neither of the allegations against Fairfax have any evidence to support them outside of the allegations, yet national and local Democrats called for Fairfax to resign.
“Those calls quickly disappeared after the next in line for governor, Attorney General Mark Herring, also admitted to wearing blackface in college, which would mean the next in line for governor would be a Republican.”

Hmmm. Looks like Gov Ralph weathered the storm. I can hear the popinjays now; “I’d vote for a white southern boy with blackface makeup on if he could beat Trump.”

Yo Walt again. We are moving up in the world. Add a new badge to honor to wear with pride. I like it almost as much as ‘dregs on society”.

Unbelievable group here. Homophobic Todd can’t wrap his head around fairy tales at the library. Wally is dumbfounded that a State Park actually belongs to the people, yet he and Todd are pissed beyond belief that Michael Funk can own riverfront on Rock Creek (they believe it’s the Yuba). A regular circus of fools. And Paul is demonized because he has a pony tail. If his last name was Goring you’d be fawning over him. Sickening.

Check out Google Earth or better yet, just go there.
Funk has property, roads and a structure as near to the Yuba as he does to Rock Creek.
The property is at the confluence of Rock Creek and the Yuba. I’ve been to the river there long before Funk was there and I’ve been to the Funk residence.
The house faces the creek, but it’s on the Yuba as well.
He owns a shit load of property all along the river.
Both sides. Rock Head has his head up his own Rock.

860 acres to be exact. His house and private property are on Rock Creek. The rest of the property is held in public trust. Does it bother you that a private citizen can buy property and put it into a trust where neither he nor his heirs can subdivide or develop it? It is to be left in a natural state for perpetuity. If you don’t approve, cry yourself a beer and tell us how “the people” like you should demand he use it.

    Walt-
Please educate us on who exactly you claim the state stole the land from. The Indians? I’m pretty certain the land was owned by BLM well before the dam was built when USACE took over the operations and handed the midstream property over to the State to manage as a park. BLM still owns the property upstream of the park boundary.

Never thought or wrote anything about that.
And you’re trying to ignore my comment about looking at Google Earth.
I never implied or wrote or thought anything about the propriety or legality of where his land is. Just saying I’ve been there and you can see the river as well as you can see the creek.

I have been to the Funks on numerous occasions. You CANNOT see the Yuba from their house nor the house from the Yuba, It was specifically designed to comply with the river’s W&S designations. you can see Rock Creek from the house, but to reach the gold mining claim at the confluence you have to go across the driveway and onto a foot path that goes over a hill and drops to the river several hundreds of feet away. The path has been there since the late 1800s. Stare at Google Earth all you want. “All those roads” were part of a mining community over 150 years ago. His house is largely on the old stamp mill foundation.

Funk got a pass on the WandS designation that all others had to abide by. Rock Hunter is a liar. I was quite involved in the fight against designation and its effects on private property. The rules are quite strict yet SYRCL and Funk somehow circumvented those restrictions. Rock Hunter does not know diddly.

    Scott O @ 10:27 pm
Morning. I think the real reason that the George Wills, William Kristols, and the Beltway Establishment Republicans of the world are so pissed off is because suddenly in 2016 no one came and kissed their rings, sought their counsel or blessings. After decades of being the shot callers and King makers, they find themselves in the most unfamiliar position of being irrelevant….and they do not like their new status one bit.
Same is true of the Council of Foreign Relations. Trump never bowed before them and took their opinions as the final word, nor followed their superior blueprint. Their phone was not ringing! Yeah, bring China into the club and they will become more democratic. Right. Knocking them down a peg really upset the apple cart. Many bruised egos. A smug elitism crept in and they were the last to see it.
That does not mean they (like Will) should be dismissed out of hand. Nay, they have many valid points and pen some great conservative commentaries which are highly recommended. Jonah Goldberg comes to mind, especially because Jonah never had an overinflated sense of self. How refreshing. The others will never recover. They forgot where they came from. Some, like Kristol, sold their souls for prestige and status and acclamations….quite aphrodisiac cocktail. Trump just exposed their unwarranted puffery. The last thing George Will can stomach is irrelevancy. Romney as well.

Quote: “If Obama had called off air strikes, the media would demand he get the Nobel Peace Prize.” “Such a double standard”— Ronna McDaniel.
To which I reply, “What do you mean ‘if’? The media demanded Obama get the Nobel Peace Prize simply for breathing air. They are our bettors. 🙂

I’m sure he complied with whatever strictures they put on him.
It’s a big place – Probably there are some areas (at the house) where you would stand and not see the river, and there others where I did indeed see the river. Michael was a gracious host and I would appreciate you to not falsely put words in my mouth that he has done anything wrong.

Revisiting the Drag Queen Drama Hour at The Union… the comments are smoking.
I do wonder if Supervisor Heidi Hall is off the wagon.
Then there’s the others The Union article quoted: Jenna Sauter (seen here in an NPR story: https://media.npr.org/assets/img/2018/01/25/moms-1-21451f8701174d1fba148016ea8dee7dfc13c6f7-s1600-c85.jpg) and “Lindon Lossow” (who, if they exist, has managed to do so outside the purview of both Google and DDG). Nice virtue signaling, whoever you are.
In fact, there’s Virtue Signaling everywhere in this story telling. If you don’t like it, don’t take your kid to the reading. And bring it up the next time there’s a ballot issue with library funding to be decided. Or a County Supervisor to be selected.
This is an event supposedly meant for three to eight year olds. Confuse them when they’re young.

BT at 8:46 – I’ve read Will’s stuff for decades. He is a conservative, but as you point out – he does live and breath for the good life as an ‘acceptable’ conservative in order to attend the proper partys and mix with the ‘correct’ crowd.
Some of the folks over at the NR strike me as being intelligent enough to know what side to be on, but lack the courage to stick with it when the NYTs start making fun of them.
I read the NR and Taki’s Mag. They take pot shots at each other on a regular basis.
