[It looks like a sea change may have occurred in the RR comment streams. Absent are the vacuous critiques of everything not supporting our country’s headlong rush to socialism. These leftwingers seldom countered the message, and always condemned the messengers. And this absence also appears to have reduced the zeal of our commenting capitalists who usually mass to defend open markets, liberty, and smaller government. Perhaps it is time for a respite from the raucous. gjr]

Go ahead, make my day –
The new poll, which was conducted after special counsel Robert Mueller’s statement on Wednesday, has several other warning signs for Democrats agitating to begin impeachment proceedings against Trump.
Sixty-eight percent of voters said Democrats in Congress should accept Mueller’s finding that there was no criminal conspiracy and 65 percent said Democrats should accept Attorney General William Barr’s conclusion that the president did not obstruct justice.
Sixty-three percent of voters said the investigations into Trump are hurting the country. Fifty-eight percent of voters said it’s time for Congress to turn the page on the Russia investigations.
That could be a tough sell for the Democratic base, as a plurality of Democrats, 25 percent, said impeaching Trump should be the top priority for the Democratic majority in the House, followed by 18 percent who said the party should focus on shoring up ObamaCare and 14 percent who said Democrats should prioritize stimulating the economy.

That’s what you get for fiddling with search results to suppress free speech –
The Justice Department is gearing up for an antitrust investigation of Alphabe t Inc.’s Google, a move that could present a major new layer of regulatory scrutiny for the search giant, according to people familiar with the matter.
The department’s antitrust division in recent weeks has been laying the groundwork for the probe, the people said. The Federal Trade Commission, which shares antitrust authority with the department, previously conducted a broad antitrust investigation of Google but closed it in 2013 without taking action, though Google made some voluntary changes to certain business practices.
The FTC and the department have been in talks recently on who would oversee any new antitrust investigation of a leading U.S. tech giant, and the commission agreed to give the Justice Department jurisdiction over Google, the people said.
With turf now settled, the department is preparing to closely examine Google’s business practices related to its search and other businesses, the people said.
It couldn’t immediately be learned whether Google has been contacted by the department. Third-party critics of the search giant, however, already have been in talks with Justice Department officials, some of the people familiar with the matter said.

The socialist sanctuary paradise of LALA Land continues to out do itself –
LAPD’s Central Division is in the heart of Skid Row. It appears the troubled areas problems are, in this case, stemming from inside the building.
The LAPD says an employee at that station contracted salmonella typhi, which typically comes from infected food or water.
A second employee is believed to have now contracted the same thing.
CBS2/KCAL9 has obtained an OSHA report citing the LAPD for an unclean work area. The report cited, among other things, “the presence of rats/rodents, fleas, roaches, flies gnats, mosquitoes and grasshoppers” at the LAPD Central Community Police Station.
This isn’t the first time rats have infested a city building.

Earlier this year, a city attorney contracted typhus at LA City Hall.
The LA Police Protective League issued a statement Wednesday evening. It read in part, “Officers worry enough about being shot or injured policing the streets of Los Angeles. They shouldn’t also have to worry about being infected with diseases they can take home to their families simply by showing up to work.”

Polling says Resistance is futile. Trump is DOA in 2020. Put a fork in it. Surrender Dorothy. Biden all the way.
“Who wants to vote for women who eat salad with combs and abuse their staff, or tannish women who clawed their way to fame and fortune the old-fashioned way by sleeping with married kingmaker politicians, or a gay mayor of an unlivable city who thinks America isn’t all that great now or ever, or a semi-hysterical Spartacus impressionist?
“Any of these Intersectional Slot-Fillers would be but minor footnotes in history against Trump. Kind of like George McGovern without the gravitas and military service. Plus, I think even though McGovern had some mildly silly planks in his platform, I never knew him to be anything but a sweet South Dakota guy, whereas the 2020 crop of Democrat contenders are mostly snarling, vicious, hateful snipers or rich, senile totalitarians. Or both.
“This is the first prong in the Left’s 3-prong strategy to undo the 2016 election disaster: keep doing fake polls that prove to regular Americans that they might as well stay home because there is no hope. It’s over. America lovers: DO NOT FALL FOR THIS. In the timeless words of poet Dylan Thomas who was talking about actual death, not just the death of our Republic: “Do not go gentle into that good night; Rage, rage, against the dying of the light.”

The Daily Wire previously reported that important context was left out of a text-message exchange between former Trump attorney Michael Cohen and a Georgian-American businessman. “Republican Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan said Saturday morning he will not challenge President Donald Trump for the GOP 2020 nomination.
“I’m not going to be a candidate for president in 2020,” Hogan said in an interview with The Washington Post.
Trump’s Republican critics have worked to entice Hogan into jumping into the crowded 2020 race. Hogan acknowledged the president’s growing popularity inside the Republican Party, but said he wants to focus on being Maryland’s governor.
“I have a commitment to the 6 million people of Maryland and a lot of work to do, things we haven’t completed,” he said.
Hogan’s decision is a potential mortal wound to the so-called “Never Trump” wing of the Republican Party, a contingent of commentators and former politicians such as Bill Kristol and former Ohio governor John Kasich.”

BT at 5:06 – As a long time reader of the Chron (and subscriber for years) I’m well acquainted with the Fun, Fun times of Willie B and his buddies in the legis and at parties. Never forgot the time he had a bit of a to-do in Sac-town with his Jaguar and the press figured out it was him immediately. Seems the DMV thought since you drove around in public with a govt issued license plate, the public had a right to know who the car belonged to, being on public property and all.
As he was the speaker of the Assembly at the time, a new law was passed in about 2 minutes that the DMV couldn’t do that no mo.
I well remember Kamie when she was his latest squeeze. She was definitely shacked up with him, but at the time it was all ho-hum. She made the best of it, for sure, but the Dems will play it down forever.
If Willie Brown had been white and lived in Chicago, he would have been Daley. He played both sides of the street when it suited him financially or politically. He had street smarts and charm. He was intelligent but totally Machiavellian. Since he was a Dem, the press fawned all over him, even when they knew he was being an ass. Kamala chose well when she decided to sleep her way into power. They make a perfectly matched couple. Although I don’t see her having his political touch.
But she’s close.

The masters of the universe are coming for you if you fail to comply –
The Daily Beast recently doxed a black, working-class Trump supporter for the crime of creating a parody video of Democrat speaker of the house Nancy Pelosi. But there’s more to the story — it appears Facebook may have helped the left-wing journalists identify him.
The video was posted to Facebook anonymously by the Trump supporter, who the Daily Beast identified as Shawn Brooks, a black forklift driver and Trump supporter from the Bronx.
By doxing Brooks, The Daily Beast followed the example of CNN, which threatened to unmask an anonymous Trump supporter over a parody video, forcing to him apologize in exchange for not revealing his identity. The scandal caused “CNNBlackmail” to trend on Twitter.
But there’s another aspect to the Daily Beast story which has major implications for the privacy of Facebook users — according to the Daily Beast reporter himself, Facebook gave him information on Brooks’ activity on the platform.

I concur with the author. We judge a man on his totality of his life. Short version:
“These ideas seem to have gone by the wayside as people are valued by their sex, race, religion, and political beliefs to an extreme degree in the modern age. The article by the Times tells the tale of the losing side in great detail providing vital information of the self-defense group including their names, photographs, locations of their homes, the vehicle that one of them uses, and even the photographs of the two daughters of one individual. “If they were a nuisance for the MS13 gang, now they are a special target,” Martinez wrote.
One of the women featured in the story told the Honduran publication that she never gave them consent to print their name or take their photographs. “I didn’t even know when he took them (photographs. That man has put a price on my head,” she said.
The writer from Contra Corriente wrote to Azam Ahmed asking telling him that he was looking into why faces and names were used for the story and the response from the writer was “HAHAHAHA” followed by another email days later where Ahmed claimed to not know how that email sent itself. The Times communications team told Martinez that everyone in the story had given consent and the news outlet followed all journalistic standards. The photographs that showed certain faces have since been removed, but days after the story was wildly shared in Honduras.

“….When we talk about our right to a clean home, when we talk about retrofitting buildings, what we’re talking about is cleaning our air and cleaning our water because when we talk about what housing as a right means, it doesn’t mean that you have a right to four crumbling walls and a dirty floor.”

Well, maybe the millennials aren’t as dumb as I thought. You don’t need a degree for that kind of work anyway. I know two folks (one on the East Coast and one on the West Coast) that work as journalists for major publications and neither one of them every took a single journalism course. 🙂
“College graduates working in newsrooms earn way less money than college grads in other fields. Add that to the dismal public image of the journalism industry and it is understandable why talented young Americans eschew media careers. No sensible college graduate today wants to take a vow of poverty to pursue a career that friends and relatives look down upon.”….
“Media credibility has suffered in part because of the blurring of lines between reporting and commentary. There is a solid place in journalism for analysis, editorializing and advocacy, but audiences increasingly sense those functions have blended into fact-based, non-partisan reporting. When citizens see that merger of reporting and commentary, their confidence in journalism takes a hit and they migrate to “news” outlets that fit with their personal ideologies.
“The pool of future news crusaders was supposed to have been boosted after the election of President Trump in 2016. Journalism schools initially reported a surge of new enrollees, most presumably wanting to win reporting prizes by digging into Trumpism. Indeed, the news industry needs aggressive and devoted reporters, but the news industry doesn’t lack for anti-Trump warriors. What the news profession does lack is reporters who go where facts lead and know that fairness is a skill.
“Whatever “Trump bump” journalism schools might have seen two years ago has apparently disappeared. Going to college on emotion, absorbing debt, and then going into a career field in decline has caused reality to set in for many of the “save the world” journalism enrollees of the post-election era.
“The broad marketplace is speaking to the journalism industry and the industry is apparently not listening. News consumers want more objective news of substance that clearly separates factual content from advocacy. Prospective journalism employees seek careers in which they can take pride and earn competitive wages. The big media corporate executives who shoulder responsibility for preserving the nation’s free press functions need to do some soul-searching about how to save the imperiled industry. And the discussions need to include people from outside their corporate towers.”

Twitter has suspended a large number of Chinese-language user accounts, including those belonging to critics of China’s government. It seems like a particularly ill-timed move, occurring just days before thirtieth anniversary of the Tiananmen Square massacre on June 4.
“A large number of Chinese @Twitter accounts are being suspended today,” wrote Yaxue Cao, founder and editor of the U.S.-based publication China Change. “They ‘happen’ to be accounts critical of China, both inside and outside China.”
Cao then went on to highlight a number of the suspended accounts in a Twitter thread.

This will be hard for Paul to take. We know how he gets when polls get trashed by reality.
https://dailycaller.com/2019/06/02/populists-australia-india-uk/
“Pollsters worldwide lost face as the right-wing populists in each nation outperformed their projected gains.
Anti-establishment victories across Europe managed to pull enough seats from the ruling parties to break up the 40-year-old coalition governing the European Parliament.”
“Polling pointed to a disaster for Australia’s right-leaning Liberal-National Coalition in the federal election held May 18.
Not only did the Liberal-National Coalition retain power; it gained seats in Parliament and earned an outright majority, with 77 seats, the Guardian reported.”
And it gets worse from there for the tea leaf readers.
The thing is, most people love their home nation.(LIBS are the exception here They want to turn it into something it’s never supposed to be.)

Shows anyone how brain dead the left is about fire arm violence.
“It’s not normal, is it? It’s not OK. And we owe it to you, we owe it to anybody who’s in school, and for that matter their teachers … to make sure that that safety is there,” the South Bend, Ind., mayor said at a campaign stop in California.”
Gee – you mean like the president’s kids?
And we have trained guards with automatics to gun down the perps?
Ah – ha, ha – no, we mean you lower class types.
Expendables, we call you. Sorta safe, but when you get shot, we can stand on your body to preach for gun confiscation.
It gets better – Booty Judge has voices –
“One of the voices that is in my head when someone like you asks a question like that is we cannot let you down,” he continued, seemingly choking up. “Those of us in elected office owe it to you to do whatever it takes, even if it means losing an election every now and then.”
“Losing an election”? Is that why you’re running?
“…seemingly choking up…” stop it. You have time for that later with your husband.

It’s something of a wonder that the British Liberal Party took 45 years to gain power and it took 45 days for the brand new Farage-Brexit Party to take control. :). I think things are speeding up. Like you said, people like their country, forsaking all others. A nice wedding vow. 🙂

Russia has withdrawn key defense advisers from Venezuela, an embarrassment for President Nicolás Maduro as Moscow weighs the leader’s political and economic resilience against growing U.S. pressure.
The gradual pullout, which has escalated over the last several months, according to people familiar with the situation, is due to a lack of new contracts and the acceptance that Mr. Maduro’s regime no longer has the cash to continue to pay for other Rostec services associated with past contracts.
Russia has been among Maduro’s biggest international supporters, but the winding down of Rostec’s presence shows the limits of Russia’s reach in the South American country at a time when Moscow is facing economic difficulties—in part due to the impact of U.S. sanctions—at home. Venezuela has been one of Moscow’s largest customers in South America.

Wow. Recommended. Michael Goodwin hits it out of the park with this one. Barr, the Deep Police State, and the Grey Lady. They couldn’t have done it without their friends in the media. No way could they have ever got it this far without a willing partner…aka..fakenews. Talk about collusion and arrogance.

Did like his addendum:
Now and then it’s worth sharing the vile e-mails I get from Trump haters. Here’s a fairly typical one, including homophobic slurs.
Reader Jeff Putterman writes: “Were you born to two morons, or did you do a lot of drugs when you were younger?
“You should go back to sucking Trump’s tiny penis, and keep the writing to people who can think. Rot in Hell, you lowlife a–hole.”
Substantive and persuasive, right?

“One of the ironies today is that people are saying that it’s President Trump that’s shredding our institutions. I really see no evidence of that . . . From my perspective the idea of resisting a democratically elected president and basically throwing everything at him and you know, really changing the norms on the grounds that we have to stop this president, that is where the shredding of our norms and our institutions is occurring.”

That is also my position as a LIB. Follow the f’ing law. DEMs, you might not like TRUMP but the Clinton campaign helped select him as the candidate Hillary could beat, a “Pied Piper” that would lead the GOP to ruin.
Yes, I understand, you didn’t actually want him to win. Tough.

And now for something completely different… the Tour of Nevada City criterium.
There’s a nice photo in The Union of the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place finisher from the pro women’s race that started at 430. The field was limited to 125 according to the tour’s website.
There were a total of four (4) women at the start. One was dropped the second lap.
In general, there were few riders and few spectators.
