[The $2T infrastructure bill is going to be a problem that the Dems hope will choke Team Trump.  What about letting the several states plan and do the infrastructure work in their states under a coordinated plan from the feds.  The states can come up with novel public/private funding schemes which may involve the feds only to the extent of guaranteeing loans and bond issues of those they approve.  Thoughts?  gjr]

Inverse Strategy Newsletter: How to Spot a Bullshitter
    BY JAMES DENNIN
Bullshit, you may be surprised to hear, has a rich scholarly history.
A few years ago, anthropologist David Graeber reinvigorated academic interest in bullshit, applying it to labor studies. In Graeber’s context, β€œbullshit jobs” describe the jobs people do that have no meaning and create little value, but we do them anyway because late capitalism demands it.
Other academics describe and study bullshit in a completely different context. These efforts date back to 1988, when the famous Princeton philosopher Harry Frankfurt published this essay called β€œOn Bullshit.” In Frankfurt’s view, most forms of bullshit stem from a disregard for the truth, which he argues is distinct from lying. A liar knows the truth is bad; that’s why they lie. Bullshitters, by contrast, don’t care about the truth at all.
This is the kind of bullshitting that was the subject of the Shure study. In 2012, the Programme for International Student Assessment β€” a test taken by kids around the world, including 40,000 English-speaking students β€” featured a few extra questions as part of the questionnaire that students completed at the end of their test. It was all biographical stuff, like where they were from and what their parents did. But in addition to this biographical information, the questionnaire also asked the students to say how familiar they were with 16 mathematical concepts. Three of the concepts were completely fake. Bogus. Pure imagination.
β€œThis is kind of one of those situations, where there’s not a clear reason why they would pretend to have knowledge of these fake concepts. There is this disregard for the truth,” Shure says. β€œThey β€˜know and understand’ these fake concepts? That’s obviously bullshitting.”
Shure says this data set was particularly unique because bullshitters usually have something to gain for their non-truthfulness. Other studies, she said, relied on assessments of over-familiarity with certain concepts or sometimes with popular culture. Shure says these studies may have been limited by still offering an incentive to bullshit in the form of social desirability.
β€œYou don’t want to look stupid,” she points out.
Faced with this new, totally anonymous, totally stakeless evidence of bullshitting, Shure says her paper provides something like the first-ever taxonomy of bullshitters β€” at least, the first-ever taxonomy for bullshitting teens. In addition to some regional distinctions (North Americans bullshit the most; Scottish bullshit the least), there were also differences in terms of gender (Tt should surprise none of you to read that men bullshit more than women.) and socioeconomic status.
β€œPeople from wealthier backgrounds had a higher propensity to bullshit, as opposed to their poorer peers. Immigrants also score really high on the bullshit index compared to native, which I found somewhat surprising, but there may be some linguistic issue there,” she says.
This isn’t just a funny study (though if you’re going to actually read any of the papers I’ve ever written about in this newsletter, you could do a lot worse.) You might recall a strategy I wrote a few months ago about why terrible men often get promoted at work. In the story, leadership expert Tomas Chamorro-Premuzic argues that bad men often ascend to leadership positions because most people don’t know what makes a good leader, so when it’s time to choose one, we’re highly susceptible to their bullshit.
While Shure’s new study doesn’t look at how bullshitters fare in the labor market, her team’s data does align with Chamorro-Premuzic’s argument that terrible men get promotions because they’re more likely to bullshit their way to the top.
We now have solid data suggesting that young men, particularly wealthy young men, are more likely to claim skills they don’t have than virtually any other group.

It occurs to me, then, that in order to close the wage gap between men and women, we’ll have to find a way to stop women from paying an honesty tax via a lower paycheck.

Look around, lots of opportunities to check for some local BS artists.

The realists are saying no they are not going to take the senate –
β€œThese embarrassing recruitment failures are devastating to Chuck Schumer’s dream of a Democratic Senate,” emphasized Jack Pandol, communications director for the Senate Leadership Fund, the top outside group backing Senate Republicans.
β€œNow that top-tier Democrats in nearly every competitive state have all said no to Chuck Schumer, the picture is becoming clear: Democrats simply do not believe in Schumer’s ability to lead them into the majority,” Pandol added.
National Republican Senatorial Committee communications director Jesse Hunt argued that the news points to the increasingly leftward shift among Democrats.
β€œIt shouldn’t surprise anyone that Democrats, watching their party begin to trend closer to socialism, are ducking out of competitive races against well-funded, accomplished Republican incumbents,” Hunt told Fox News.

The report seemed to indicate otherwise, recapping some of the past year’s highlights for the Chinese military including the deployment of surface-to-air missiles and anti-ship cruise missiles to its man-made islands in the Spratly chain in the South China Sea and warning of Beijing’s β€œcontinuing improvements” in missile technology to allow its military to operate β€œfurther from China.”
In 2015 in a speech alongside then-President Barack Obama, China’s President Xi Jinping pledged that β€œChina does not intend to pursue militarization” of the man-made islands.

This is making a stir in investigative circles. Russian Collusion Delusion.
β€œShe said the DNC wanted to collect evidence that Trump, his organization and Manafort were Russian assets, working to hurt the U.S. and working with Putin against the U.S. interests. She indicated if we could find the evidence they would introduce it in Congress in September and try to build a case that Trump should be removed from the ballot, from the election,” he recalled.
β€œAfter the meeting, Telizhenko said he became concerned about the legality of using his country’s assets to help an American political party win an U.S. election. But he proceeded with his assignment.”
    ~
β€œThough Chaly and Telizhenko disagree on what Ukraine did after it got Chalupa’s request, they confirm that a paid contractor of the DNC solicited their government’s help to find dirt on Trump that could sway the 2016 election.
β€œFor a Democratic Party that spent more than two years building the now-disproven theory that Trump colluded with Russia to hijack the 2016 election, the tale of the Ukrainian embassy in Washington feels just like a speeding political boomerang.”

Your lack of education has hurt you none . . . only if you’re brain dead.
Next time you visit the hospital, bring that bible of yours, keep on thumping, and pray the doctor didn’t go to college and that the people who designed your therapies got their cred on the street instead of a university. Maybe you could call high school junior Todd Juvinall to recalibrate the MRI to Aqua Velva standards rather than those useless modalities developed by college educated engineers, doctors and scientists.
It’s okay with me if you don’t trust those butt ignorant college educated people who developed vaccines which have saved countless thousands, perhaps millions, of lives. Visit your local homespun homeopath and blow smoke over your unvaccinated children when they come down with polio or smallpox. And for god sake, never step foot in an airplane that was engineered by some college graduate.
Those cell phones are deadly and 5G is 200 times more dangerous. Believe it. Only a college educated fool would fall for the lie that you get exposed to many times more radiation from a walk under the sun than from the iPhone in your purse. Ignorance is good. Education is not. Uneducated people produce everything we need? It only makes sense if you are one loony toon.

β€œYou’re bringing up a really good point here. Because one of the, I think, directives here, and the big question here is, do we pursue the Attorney General until he provides testimony for the House? Or, do we pursue the unredacted Mueller report along with testimony from Bob Mueller? Is that where we put our energy?”

    Not what she said, idiot.
Ooooze is proof that a college edu-ma-cation doesn’t always equal an educated person.
My wife once had a ‘discussion’ (polite, but tense) with a woman who declared that she had the correct view of the subject solely because she graduated from Stanford. She offered not one bit of reasoning beyond that one single fact. She would simply state, over and over, “but, I’ve graduated from Stanford”.
A person can get a good education from a college or university but just because you can wave a sheepskin doesn’t always mean you can be a productive citizen or a qualified leader of any sort.
Please recall Brother Bill from 1963 – “I am obliged to confess I should sooner live in a society governed by the first two thousand names in the Boston telephone directory than in a society governed by the two thousand faculty members of Harvard University.”
    Buckley was hardly a loon.
Let’s look at Bonnie’s lead – “Regarding those who think their college deplomas make them elite.”
A valid point and nothing to do with the nonsense fabricated by Ooooze.

re Ozz 923am – Unfortunately, this event is a fundraiser for the heavily progressive LWV, and its choice to conduct a Constitutional quiz promises to be a leftwing propaganda tour de force. Save for questions of banal historical nature, almost everything else about the Constitution’s meanings, citations, and court rulings are more than tinged in partisanship. Therefore the choice of questions and their ‘correct’ answers promise to generate more heat than light. It is unreasonable to expect that such a backwater quiz’s answers will resolve questions that have been hotly debated by opposing political parties for decades. But the evening promises to be a feel-good event for local liberals.
