[The $2T infrastructure bill is going to be a problem that the Dems hope will choke Team Trump. What about letting the several states plan and do the infrastructure work in their states under a coordinated plan from the feds. The states can come up with novel public/private funding schemes which may involve the feds only to the extent of guaranteeing loans and bond issues of those they approve. Thoughts? gjr]

So that’s what those mutha mullahs are up to –
Intelligence showing that Iran is likely moving short-range ballistic missiles aboard boats in the Persian Gulf was one of the critical reasons the US decided to move an aircraft carrier strike group and B-52 bombers into the region, according to several US officials with direct knowledge of the situation.
The concerns over the movement of the missiles was one of multiple threads of intelligence from various sources that led the US to believe Iran had a capability and intention to launch strikes against US targets.
On Tuesday US Central Command spokesperson Capt. Bill Urban said they had seen “indications that Iranian and Iranian proxy forces were making preparations to possibly attack US forces in the region.”
‘Specific, credible’ Iran threat against US forces triggered carrier deployment, sources say
It’s not clear if the Iran could launch the missiles from the boats or if they are transporting them to be used by Iranian forces on land.
The Pentagon is considering sending additional firepower to the region including anti-missile defense systems, the officials said.

So it started in 2011!!! Gotta love that metadata, it can be very helpful in many ways….
The code reportedly was discovered in 2015 by the Intelligence Community Inspector General (ICIG), which then warned FBI officials of the intrusion. A source briefed on the matter confirmed to Fox News the details of The Caller’s reporting, and said that the ICIG was so concerned by the revelation that officials drove over to the FBI to inform agents — including agent Peter Strzok, seen as a strong Trump critic — of the development after it was discovered via the emails’ metadata.
The source told Fox News the hack was from a Chinese company, describing it as a front for Chinese intelligence.
A second source briefed on the matter told Fox News that officials outside the FBI indicated code on the Clinton server suggested a foreign source was receiving copies of emails in real time.

“omg.”
“That was the three-letter response from top Hillary Clinton aide Huma Abedin — familiar Internet shorthand for “Oh my God!” — when Justin Cooper, the technology pro overseeing Clinton’s private home-based email servers, told her shortly after midnight on Jan. 9, 2011, that “someone was trying to hack us.”………
“In August, it was reported that a Chinese state-owned company hacked Clinton’s email server, then inserted code that forwarded a copy of virtually every email she sent or received after that — a revelation President Trump demanded be investigated.
“The Daily Caller reported that the firm operating in the D.C. area wrote code that was then embedded in the server and generated a “courtesy copy” for almost all her emails — which were then forwarded to the Chinese company.
“The code reportedly was discovered in 2015 by the Intelligence Community Inspector General (ICIG), which then warned FBI officials of the intrusion.

The voter suppression lie.
When presented with evidence of massively increased voting for blacks, some feel the burden is on me to prove that voter suppression didn’t happen, rather than on them to provide evidence, real evidence, that it did. You can’t prove a negative.
If your gut tells you a policy suppresses votes, that’s not evidence that it does. Voter ID laws, often maligned as attempts at minority voter suppression, have no effect on turnout & are popular with non-whites.
Others have cited the dip in turnout between 2012 and 2016 as evidence that black votes were successfully suppressed.
But what’s more likely: (1) widespread successful voter suppression by Republicans between 2012-2016, followed by a complete reversal in the efficacy of such suppression tactics between 2016-2018, or…
(2) Obama excited black people a lot in 2012 and drew out a lot of infrequent black voters; Hillary was far less exciting in 2016, so black turnout dropped again; then Trump’s surprise win galvanized the Resistance and increased turnout hugely in 2018.
I think (2) is far more likely and you should too.
It’s almost as if black people have agency, and large swings in voter turnout don’t need to be explained by evil racist forces. What a crazy thought.

Daily Quotes…..or yesterday’s quotes today.
For the record: “There’s no denying that [President Donald Trump’s] border taxes on Chinese goods have prodded Beijing to negotiate, though tariffs have also imposed costs on U.S. consumers and producers, especially in agriculture. The tariffs will be destructive unless they lead to a deal that causes China to cease its predatory behavior.” —Wall Street Journal
Upright: “God doesn’t pick sides, and also God is on Buttigieg’s side. You shouldn’t use religion as a weapon, and also religion is Buttigieg’s weapon. God loves everyone, except Republicans. Pete is famous for learning new languages, but maybe he should concentrate on mastering English.” —Jim Treacher
Nailed it: “[Democrats] seem to be hoping for a national crisis for the sake of their own politics.” —Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell
Braying Jenny: “We took an oath not to try to protect Donald Trump. We took an oath to protect … and serve the Constitution of the United States of America. And the way we do that is we begin impeachment proceedings now against this president.” —Sen. Elizabeth Warren
Belly laugh of the week: “We cannot accept a second term for Donald Trump if we are going to be faithful to our democracy and to the Constitution of the United States.” —House Speaker Nancy Pelosi
Political opportunism: “[Joe’s] called Anita Hill, they’ve talked, they’ve spoken, and he said, you know, he feels badly. He apologized for the way the hearings were run. And so now it’s kind of — it’s time to move on.” —Jill Biden
Alpha Jackass: “That past that [Trump] is promising to return us to was never as great as advertised.” —Mayor Pete Buttigieg (Andrew Cuomo, call your office.)
Party of Science? “When a woman gets pregnant, that is not a human being inside of her. It’s part of her body.” —CNN guest Christine Quinn
And last… “My Democratic colleagues seem to be publicly working through the five stages of grief. … The last stage of grief is acceptance. For the country’s sake, I hope my Democratic friends can get there sometime soon.” —Mitch McConnell

Paul is getting in touch with his inner Paul. He’s also given up on his Green Libertarian fiction (he’s again a proud Democrat to match his voter registration) and is going whole hog to defeat Trump in 2020 because Trump is just too darned dangerous… although I am unclear what he’s planning on doing to get more than 100% of California’s electors like in 2016.
If the new Paul is less driven to just make things up, it will be a good thing.

The socialist paradise of Oakland –
The deficit for this year will be $25 million. As a result, the Chronicle notes, Oakland — which is generously extending benefits to illegal aliens — can barely keep its street lights on.
To deal with the crisis, the city is shifting money from pothole repair to street lighting, even though the money raised by the 2017 gas tax must be used for transportation.
