[To impeach or not to impeach – that is the question.  BTW, it appears that the number of leftwing readers regularly contributing to comment streams now outnumbers those leaning to starboard.  We've always known that the Left are assiduous RR readers, but usually they don't want to debate their politics.  How did such an outrageous fortune afflict us?  gjr]

Rewriting history, again. From the Matthew Shepard case to Anita Hill to infinity and beyond..
“The issue is important, as the media and other partisans rewrite the historical record about Hill and her accusations. The widely watched hearings revealed inaccuracies in Hill’s various versions of events and ended with 58 percent of Americans believing Thomas and only 24 percent believing Hill. There was no gap between the sexes in the results. In the intervening years, activists have relentlessly attempted to change the narrative, writing fan fiction about Hill, bestowing honors on her, and asserting that her disputed allegations were credible.”

SO MUCH OF LEFTY ACTIVISM IS JUST MENTAL ILLNESS ACTING OUT:
Greta is eleven years old and has gone two months without eating. Her heart rate and blood pressure show clear signs of starvation. She has stopped speaking to anyone but her parents and younger sister, Beata.
After years of depression, eating disorders, and anxiety attacks, she finally receives a medical diagnosis: Asperger’s syndrome, high-functioning autism, and OCD. She also suffers from selective mutism—which explains why she sometimes can’t speak to anyone outside her closest family. When she wants to tell a climate researcher that she plans a school strike on behalf of the environment, she speaks through her father. . . .
Greta is not alone in her mental suffering, according to the book. Her sister Beata, who was 12 when the book was written, lives with ADHD, Asperger’s syndrome, and OCD. She is prone to sudden outbursts of anger, during which she screams obscenities at her mother. What would normally be a 10-minute walk to dance class takes almost an hour because Beata insists on walking with her left foot in front, refuses to step on certain parts of the sidewalk, and demands that her mother walk the same way. She also insists that her mother wait outside during class—she isn’t allowed to move, even to go to the bathroom. The child still ends up weeping in her mother’s arms. . . .
A workplace strike shows company owners and management that workers are able to harm them economically. A school strike, on the other hand, constitutes a form of self-harm, undertaken to attract adult attention. And the global school strike for climate is led by a girl with a long and tragic history of self-harm to her own body.
It’s not “climate change” that is the cause of these problems, and activism isn’t a solution, just an outlet.
    https://quillette.com/2019/04/23/self-harm-versus-the-greater-good-greta-thunberg-and-child-activism/
We seem to see a lot of acting out in the comments on this blog. I will let you decide who is in the need of some mental help.

The reality of socialist dems open border policies –
TAPACHULA, Mexico – Thousands fleeing conflict or poverty in Nigeria, Cameroon, Bangladesh, Haiti and Cuba have traveled across oceans, through the jungles and mountains of South America, up through Central America, on a route that — so far — ends here: the steamy, crumbling Mexican city of Tapachula, near the Guatemala border.

Well BT I think their reaction to the muller report tells the story, no impeachment, lets make a deal! It may not solve every issue but team Trump has their priorities straight. The chi coms at their party congress rammed through intellectual property rights protections laws that no one would have thought possible. We will get some more soon. Shutting down the Confucius institutes and cutting off access to critical research and limiting their ability to buy advanced tech cos. will go a long way too.
The real deal will be reelection, when that happens they will have to play real nice. They are wobbly and we dodged a fed induced recession. Could have had Q1 4% GDP if not for DC budget BS.
We shall see but fat lil’ rocket mans squealing about mean old Pompeo and Bolton speaks volumes about how well they are protecting our interests.

The old grey whore’s only reputation is now bad –
In an op-ed published online Sunday evening, Times columnist Bret Stephens took his employer to task, writing that the cartoon “in another age, might have been published in the pages of Der Stürmer,” a virulently anti-Semitic tabloid published during Germany’s Nazi regime.
“The problem with the cartoon isn’t that its publication was a willful act of anti-Semitism. It wasn’t,” Stephens wrote. “The problem is that its publication was an astonishing act of ignorance of anti-Semitism …. at a publication that is otherwise hyper-alert to nearly every conceivable expression of prejudice, from mansplaining to racial microaggressions to transphobia.”

The 2020 election isn’t going to be close.
The first-quarter gross domestic product growth rate of 3.2 per cent sets up the first reality that will be noted in November 2020 because it telegraphs where the economy will be then: not in recession.
Recessions are charted when GDP growth is negative for two consecutive quarters or more. That can and has occurred in sudden fashion – financial panics don’t send “save the date” cards.
But the economy over which president Donald Trump is presiding is strong and getting stronger.
Innovation is accelerating, not declining. A recession before election day looks less and less likely by the day.
Small wonder then that Trump dominates the GOP with an approval rating above 80 per cent.
His administration’s deregulatory push is accelerating. More and more rule-of-law judges, disinclined to accept bureaucrats’ excuses for over-regulation, are being confirmed to the bench. Readiness levels in the US military have been renewed. America’s relationship with its strongest ally, Israel, is at its closest in decades. Meanwhile, the Democrats are facing a Hobbesian choice of Bernie Sanders or Kamala Harris, or former vice president Joe Biden.
Sanders and Harris are too far to the left, Sanders by a lot. Biden is far past his best years. The nice folk lower down are looking for other rewards. The nomination going to someone such as Pete Buttigieg, mayor of Indiana’s South Bend, is possible, I suppose, but what happens when the dog chasing the car catches it?
What was an entertaining and amusing aside suddenly becomes a commitment and, with that, well, comes a barrage of attacks. Where Trump deflects incoming with ease, the Democrats scatter, some limping away, some blown out of the picture.
This will come as news to #Resistance liberals, who are certain Trump will lose, because they dislike him so much. They still haven’t figured out that 40 percent of the country love him and at least another 10 percent are very much committed to considering the alternative in comparison to Trump, not reflexively voting against him.
That decile is doing very well in this economy. Unemployment remains incredibly low. The markets are soaring. That’s not a given for the fall of 2020, but better to be soaring than falling 18 months out.
On immigration, border security has always been a legitimate concern (and Immigration and Customs Enforcement a legitimate agency).
People don’t talk much about it as they decline to state anything that will see them labelled racist, but the reality of open borders is understood to be an unqualified disaster by most of the country, and most of the country understands the Democrats to be arguing for a de facto open-border system, if not a de jure one.
The Green New Deal sounds like a bad science-fair project where the smart kids got the colours to combine via an elaborate device and make all the “lava” flow black down the volcanoes’ sides and the village is destroyed.
Medicare-for-all is a professor Harold Hill production, headed for Iowa as was the Music Man.
There’s not a lot of serious thinking or talking among the Democrats about the People’s Republic of China and the “nine-dash line” in the South China Sea (which many may think is some sort of shorthand for their marks on the debate stage), or Huawei, which is just too complicated to try to debate in five-minute exchanges.
Senator Elizabeth Warren’s turn as Madame Defarge may even wake up some of the wealthy-woke to their peril. It’s a circus coming to a cable-news network near you soon.
Last week’s message from a booming economy should have rocked the Democratic field. Alas, the party seems collectively intent on poring over the Mueller report yet again in the hope that, somehow, someway, there’s something there.
But the probe is over. No collusion. No obstruction.
Democrats have to campaign on something else besides a great economy, rising values of savings, low unemployment across every demographic, clarity about allies and enemies abroad, and a rebuilding military.
It’s a tough needle to thread, condemning everything about Trump except all that he has accomplished that President Barack Obama couldn’t or wouldn’t.
Not just tough – it’s practically impossible.

    Go pound sand.
“Cognizant of the new reality, Trump seems to be saying:
“These House investigations constitute a massive political assault, in collusion with a hostile media, to destroy my presidency.
“We do not intend to cooperate in our own destruction. We are not going to play our assigned role in this scripted farce. We will resist their subpoenas all the way to November 2020. Let the people then decide the fate and future of the Trump presidency — and that of Nancy Pelosi’s House.”……..
    ~
‘Whatever may be said about the “deplorables,” they are not obtuse. They do not believe that people who call them racists, sexists, nativists and bigots are friends and merely colleagues of another party or persuasion.”
“The questions raised by the present state of our politics, which might fairly be described as an American civil war without arms, are these: How does a nation so divided stand united in the world?
“And if it cannot stand united in the world, how long does it remain a great nation?”

How The Big Mean Green Machine hurts the environment.
“Given the Greens’ intransigence, how does Britain generate electricity? It simply imports gas that was produced elsewhere, thus increasing CO2 emissions and outsourcing jobs and tax revenues to other countries. It also commits the ultimate environmental folly by burning “biomass,” i.e., low-quality trees from the southern U.S. that are shipped to Britain at considerable expense. I wrote about the biomass folly, which is imposed on Britain by environmentalists, here and here. The last link is especially informative if you are interested in the details of the biomass fiasco.”
Britain’s Greens want to substitute renewable energy sources for the natural gas that can be produced by fracking. But, as Ms. Engel explains, this simply can’t be done:
The irony, she says, is that by wrecking the shale gas industry, which the British Geological Survey says has the potential to supply Britain with gas for many decades, the Government is certain to increase emissions.
“If you look at energy use as a whole, including heating and transport, gas accounts for 40 per cent of the total. There is simply no way renewables can fill that gap at the moment. We get less than five per cent of our total energy from wind and only 0.5 per cent from solar.’
“Hence, she says, the inevitable consequence of killing the shale gas industry is that the quantity of gas burnt in UK homes, businesses and power stations imported from abroad will soar – and with it, the far bigger carbon footprint caused by the process of making liquified natural gas and transporting it here. Ms Engel says imported gas already costs £7 billion a year.
“I don’t think most environmentalists care at all about the consequences of the policies they advocate. Modern environmentalism is tribal virtue-signaling, nothing more. And the rest of us are stuck with the bill.”

Sound like a racist Nazi as claimed by the socialist left?
The rabbi injured in the California synagogue shooting on Saturday said he found comfort in a personal call from President Donald Trump.
Rabbi Yisroel Goldstein of Chabad in Poway described the 10- to 15-minute conversation with Trump as meaningful.
“He was just so comforting,” Goldstein said at a press conference Sunday afternoon. “I’m really grateful to our president for taking the time and making that effort to share with us his comfort and consolation.”
Goldstein, 57, said he received the call at home and was amazed to hear the White House secretary on the line. It was his first conversation with a U.S. president, he said.

Re: The Poway shooting, politics, and criticism being a way one street.
It is tempting to blame the synagogue shooter on Ilhan Omar (D-Somalia)’s words and tweets about hooked nosed Jews and dollar signs. Blame the rhetoric. Blame that wack job’s words. Blame the anti-Semitism ingrained in the NYT and Democrat Party. Blame others. Make political hay. But, I can’t/won’t because I can only blame the shooter. Otherwise it would be like some drunk driver blaming the car. Or blaming Trump for Christchurch.
We criticize places, persons, and things all day long. But if people criticize AOC for politicalizing the shooting before the body was even cold, then that is wrong, hateful, and beyond the pale. Same with Ilhan Omar. Don’t go there. It’s racist, misogyny, anti-immigrant, Islamophobia, blah, blah, blah. Criticism is a one way street.
Anyway, once again the duration of the shooting lasted as long as it took for a second gun to arrive on the scene. Imagine if there were no guns at the synagogue. Horrible to even consider the death toll.
Back to criticism being a one way street, I do not find it surprising in the least that no NYT editor has been fired or the cacophony of cries rising to a fevered pitch for the editor’s head on a platter on 24/7 lame stream media be the headliner for another week.

Daily Quotes for this beautiful Monday in the waning days of April, 2019
Daily Quotes for this Monday in the waning days of April, 2019..
The Gipper: “We are the showcase of the future. And it is within our power to mold that future — this year and for decades to come. It can be as grand and as great as we make it. No crisis is beyond the capacity of our people to solve; no challenge too great.” —Ronald Reagan
For the record: “Biden is claiming that he asked Obama not to endorse him. Call me skeptical. There’s no way Biden would have turned down Obama’s endorsement. If there is any truth to that story, it is most likely that Biden asked Obama not to endorse anyone at all, like Kamala Harris, Cory Booker, Pete Buttigieg or Beto O’Rourke — all of whom are angling to be ‘the next Obama.’” —Gary Bauer
Belly laugh of the week: “Kamala Harris doesn’t seem to have the courage to concede that owning a handgun for protection is a bad idea. Instead, she has given voters a real choice: Back candidates who care enough about gun control to not own handguns, or support the only major Democratic contender who has one and won’t throw it away.” —Peter Funt in a USA Today op-ed titled, “Kamala Harris owns a handgun. That’s disqualifying for a 2020 Democrat in my book.”
Three thousand Americans died at the hands of Islamists. And you’re afraid of us? “I was probably [in] my second year [of] law school when 9/11 happened. And … I was really terrified of what was going to happen to my husband, who’s only a green-card holder at the time. I immediately called my brothers and told them to be very careful who you hang out with, telling my sisters, you know, just be real careful out there, and being really afraid of my fellow Americans.” —Rep. Rashida Tlaib, who is Muslim
The BIG Lie: “Family-planning clinics — Planned Parenthood, to be specific — in Texas is saving the lives of our fellow women, and it’s a life-and-death matter in this country.” —Beto O’Rourke

Hyper hypocrisy: “My heart is breaking after today’s deadly shooting at Chabad Congregation in San Diego — on the last day of Passover and 6 months to the day after the Tree of Life shooting. We as a nation must confront the terrifying rise of religious hate and violence. Love trumps hate. … Islamophobia and Anti-Semitism are two sides of the same bigoted coin. Let us stand together as Americans in rejecting hate!” —anti-Semite Rep. Ilhan Omar
And last… “Rep. Omar’s tweet condemns only ‘religious hate’ while the biggest increase is in crimes targeting Jews. This is hardly a full-throated condemnation of anti-Semitism, especially since the number of Muslims in America is increasing much more rapidly than the population of Jews, while the hate crimes against Jews are increasing far more rapidly than against Muslims.” —Steve Berman
And my favorite of last week….the crying judge. Nobody is above the law.

“the liar in chief, just surpassed the 10,000 lies or misleading statements mark”
Lies OR MISLEADING STATEMENTS? Can you tell the difference between an honestly held opinion and a lie/misleading statement?
Of course you can’t. Most of the “lies” attributed to Trump have been hyperbole of a salesman (“it’ll be the greatest healthcare in the world”) or references to things like climate change as a hoax (is it a lie or misleading to call it a hoax if you believe it?) and other disagreements.
As I’ve said here a number of times, AGW isn’t a hoax… but I don’t tag people calling it a hoax with “liar” because they believe it, and hoax is easier to type than “bad groupthink science driven by capture of government funding mechanisms by insiders as foretold by Eisenhower in his Farewell Address (in the paragraphs following his warning of an industrial-military complex)” so I tend to give them a break most of the time.
If misleading statements are OK to count as a lie, were I to man a clicker during any news coverage of Obama in office, I’d be clicking away from the get-go. If his lips were moving, smarmy misleading statements were sure to follow.
Not to mention baldfaced lies like “If you like your plan, you can keep your plan”.
Part of the issue may be that Trump (once known as the Blue Collar Billionaire) uses a simplified vocabulary in his public statements. I recall Giuliani, talking about interactions with Trump before the Donald started in politics, that he’d walk past Rudy at gatherings to talk to the construction workers who were there. His people, even though he could buy and sell the average construction worker a million times over. He likes them and they like him.

Canada is losing it. I’m friends with some Canadians and they are not happy about recent legal decisions. No kidding. A father speaking truthfully is guilty of ‘violence’.

Money quote – “…and he continued to affirm publicly that his daughter is a biological female.” Any scientific test would confirm this, but science is just so much ‘old white man stuff’.
Remember – there’s no 2A in Canada. They will be required to talk as the govt orders them to.

My my my.. don’t we all have our panties in a bundle, The fact that you support a man with no moral character doesn’t speak very highly of yourselves. The nazis were so patriotic that they believed a liar and a con man who told them he was going to make Germany great again…ring any bells?

How’s this for a Biden quote?
“What has happened is that there are people who, for reasons best known to themselves, have voted for maintaining division in our country.”
Well…. it’s Neil Kinnock, not Joe Biden, but who can tell the difference? Joe can’t!

Ooopsi cut and paste, copy error. Here it is with some bonus text –
Following another spate of positive economic news — and without a cohesive economic message of their own — many Democrats are starting to fear he might. Anxiety on the left reached new heights last week, with the government reporting that the nation’s economy had grown at an unexpectedly fast pace in the first quarter of the year. While Trump took credit for the surging economy, Democratic presidential contenders were immersing themselves in the Mueller report and debating whether incarcerated felons should be allowed to vote.

“And this is the president you want to see re-elected in 2020?”
Well, that is heavily dependent upon who else is on the ballot. There are GOP wet dreams of a 49 state sweep for the GOP… in that scenario, the one state not on board is probably the formerly safe and sane Golden State of California. Given there’s probably no chance of California’s electors not all going to the DEM, I remain completely free to once again vote for whoever takes the Libertarian presidential nod, and not have to stress out over the lesser of two evils bargain.
Except… would a win by Bernie/Harris/Frau Bluecher/Buttigig/etc or Trump be more likely to spur actual hostilities to break out? I think a case can be made for both sides.
