Now where have we heard all that before? The many holes in this plan (here) also recommend its alternative use as a sieve. gjr]

ScottO and the value of the Ivy League in the Age of Climate Doom.
I like the concept, as the sea level rises and we are subject to the inevitable sharknados, there’s nothing worth doing at Harvard beyond the rowing team. The next logical step for the US elite is to become survivalists. Rather than a university, the kids can learn how to make pemmican and shoot straight. This is a beautifully ironic idea.
Frankly, I’ve always wondered why people simply don’t have their kids tutored rather than send them to a high-end school, access to expensive equipment aside. You could probably rent quite a few professor-hours at $50k/year. No doubt the piece of paper is still too valuable to ignore.

Uncle Joe is a kindly old gentleman who likes to affectionately touch younger women, what a concept? Give the man some slack; his wife Jill does.
And what Donald Trump did in his pre-public private life doesn’t outrage me either. As long as it was between consenting adults – let them sort it out if at a later date one of the adults decides it wasn’t all that consenting. The litany of horny presidents having dalliances before, during, and after their terms is long, sometimes scurrilous, but also entertaining.

There are many creepy old men who like to affectionately touch younger women who get slapped, sometimes on the cheek, sometimes into prison.
Biden should be remembered for his destruction of the historic deference to Presidents to get their choices of Supreme Court justices for his part in leading the Borking of Robert Bork, for no reason other than Bork was seen by some (probably correctly so) as being right on the overreach of Roe v. Wade and would convince the Supremes to change their minds.

Looking like prime minister mcdreamy is going to be a 1 and done –
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is facing renewed calls to resign after a secretly recorded telephone call between two senior figures in his administration was made public, escalating claims he tried to shield an allegedly corrupt firm from prosecution.
The 17-minute call took place in December between Jody Wilson-Raybould, then the attorney general, and Michael Wernick, then Canada’s most senior civil servant, about the engineering company SNC-Lavalin, which was accused of paying bribes to Libyan officials.
Mr Wernick is heard in the audio telling Ms Wilson-Raybould that Mr Trudeau is interested in having the firm avoid criminal prosecution in favour of paying a fine, repeatedly saying that the prime minister is in a “pretty firm” frame of mind on the issue.
“I think he is going to find a way to get it done one way or another. He’s in that kind of mood. I wanted you to be aware of that,” Mr Wernick is heard saying at one point.
Ms Wilson-Raybould in turn pushes back, raising concerns that the conversation could amount to “political interference” and an attempt to breach her “prosecutorial independence”. She declined to push for the prosecution to be dropped.
Ms Wilson-Raybould was eventually moved from the role in January, one month after the phone call, and given the more junior position of veterans affairs minister. She has since resigned and gone public with claims she was inappropriately leaned on.
The audio was released by Ms Wilson-Raybould along with more than 40 pages of documents backing up her allegations. She said that she chose to secretly record the conversation because she was concerned something “inappropriate” would be said.
