   Citigroup Inc plans to sell several tons of gold placed as collateral by Venezuela’s central bank on a $1.6 billion loan after the deadline for repurchasing them expired this month, sources said, a setback for President Nicolas Maduro’s efforts to hold onto the country’s fast-shrinking reserves.
   Maduro’s government has since 2014 used financial operations known as gold swaps to use its international reserves to gain access to cash after a slump in oil revenues left it struggling to obtain hard currency.
   In the past two years, however, it has struggled to recover its collateral.
   Under the terms of the 2015 deal with Citigroup’s Citibank, Venezuela was due to repay $1.1 billion of the loan on March 11, according to four sources familiar with the situation. The remainder of the loan comes due next year.
   Citibank plans to sell the gold held as a guarantee – which has a market value of roughly $1.358 billion – to recover the first tranche of the loan and will deposit the excess of roughly $258 million in a bank account in New York, two of the sources said.

   But Gen. Joseph Dunford, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, said he also plans to meet with the tech giant to “debate” about its roles and responsibilities as a commercial enterprise versus how much the firm owes to America as its home nation.
   “In my judgment, us assisting the Chinese military in advancing technologically is not in U.S. national interests, so it’s a debate we have to have,” Dunford said at a Thursday event hosted by the Atlantic Council.
   His comments followed up on statements made in a Senate hearing last week, where he said Google was “indirectly benefiting the Chinese military” by its operations in the communist nation. Asked to follow up on those conversations Thursday, the chairman expressed the belief that no company can do work in China without it being siphoned off.
   Typically if a company does business in China, they are automatically going to be required to have a cell of the Communist Party in that company,” he said. “And that is going to lead to that intellectual property from that company finding its way to the Chinese military. It is a distinction without a difference between the Chinese Communist Party, the government and the Chinese military.”
   “Ventures to help develop artificial intelligence in China are going to do two things. They are going to help an authoritarian government to assert control [over] its own population. Again, our country exists for the individual. China exists for the Chinese communist party,” he continued.
   “The second thing it’s going to do is it’s going to enable the Chinese military to take advantage of the technology that is developed in the United States. Why is it developed in the United States? Why is Silicon Valley in the United States? Because of our system of government in enabling of individual ideas to bubble up and advance the world, whether it’s medically, education, artificial intelligence, you name it.”
   Dunford added that he has plans to meet with Google executives in the near future, likely next week.

    The Sarah Lawarence College storm has come and gone, with most press devoted to the student demands…like free fabric softener. But the real story is not the ratios of liberal/Communist /Progressive professors to conservative professors, but that the ratio of liberal administrators is even higher.
    For those unfamiliar with the story, a conservative professor wrote an op ed to the NYT. Naming no names, he used recognized national data of the high ratio of liberal administrators and faculty on campus to conservatives. He also mentioned classes students were required to take. Woke classes and such. His point was NOT that opposing views should be taught, but that more views, a more expansive exposure to ideas (diversity) in education….to the betterment of the the students’ education and critical thinking.
    Well, he was attacked as a racist, a woman hater, and the students demanded his tenure be revolked. His family pics and stuff and office door got trashed. He had zero backup from The Administrators. The school would not even condemn the violence, ala, Congress could not even write a clean resolution condemning anti-Semitism. :’

    The bottom line: Do not expect a harsh condemnation of President Donald Trump or any of his associates if they have not been charged with crimes.
    The road map comes in the form a little-noticed 12-page letter written by Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein last June to Senate Judiciary Chairman Chuck Grassley
    The letter was in response to Grassley’s demands for more information on the special counsel investigation, offers a brief history of special counsel investigations and actually quotes former and future Attorney General William Barr who appointed three special counsels during his time as attorney general under President George H.W. Bush.
    In the letter, Rosenstein makes it clear he believes the Department of Justice will not – and cannot without violating long-standing Department of Justice policy – include disparaging or incriminating information about anybody who has not been charged with a crime.
    “Punishing wrongdoers through judicial proceedings is only one part of the Department’s mission,” Rosenstein wrote. “We also have a duty to prevent the disclosure of information that would unfairly tarnish people who are not charged with crimes.”
    Sources familiar with the investigation believe there are no more indictments coming from the special counsel. If Mueller follows the guidance of the man who appointed him and supervised his investigation, he cannot publicly disparage those who have not been charged with a crime.

A problem arises when you consider that the population increase comes from the other places. Pretty certain, if you care to educate yourself, you will understand the illogic in tossing around fertility and fecundity bias in racial physiology when you are actually talking about birth rate (a societal trait, not a biological one as white supremacist doctrine claims). You claim to be a logical person and a stickler for precise definitions. We’ll see.

    Changing gears:
    Why do we have arrested development in our youngins? I can’t get behind the paywall on NYT, WSJ, or Wa Compost, so I had a friend read me parts of the mentioned below article in the link.
    It’s worse than I imagined, but what I have strongly suspected. One story about a mother who always removed the cream off of her daughter’s food. Daughter (or Mom) did not like cream on her food so mom would prepare food without creamy toppings or remove the cream/sauce for the child. When the girl went to school and college cafeterias, the entries were covered with sauce and the Gen Z young woman did not know how to eat with the stuff on it. E-mails back and forth to the student and to the school and college cafeterias with instructions to how to scrap the sauce off (or make cream-less entries) …because the young adult could not do it herself.
    Another story of parents walking ahead of the children moving barriers and clutter out of their way as the kid walked down the hallways inside and also outside the home. No walking around, lol.
    Helicopter and now “snowplow” parenting. Enough. Here’s a case for free-range childhood.

One psychologist said she regularly handles students from elite colleges who must come home because they “don’t have the minimal kinds of adult skills that one needs to be in college.” Skills like figuring out how to feed themselves food they like at their own college’s cafeteria.”

    Yes, Tozer, and federal troops are marching into the White House to place Trump and Pence under arrest. Nancy Pelosi will take her place as President.
    The frogmarching of Trump will take place at daybreak tomorrow.
