I think that a rant concerning Silicon Valley is probably warranted anymore. The days of actually designing and making useful products there is largely gone and we are left with a perfect loop of ad-revenue based companies striving for monopoly. It’s a darned shame really.
Look how little you get with this typepad thing anyway. It’s USENET with a few embedded pictures. If anything, we are marching boldly backwards in terms of UI as people move from workstations to the web browsers and cell phones.
It’s interesting to think about where the heavy hitting really is right now. Robotics companies, biological sciences, stronger AI, plus things that I don’t know anything about. I think that in the last two decades, most of the Bay Area represents the largest waste of technical talent seen in the history of the world.

…now don’t get me wrong. I’m not saying that Silicon Valley has gone 100% legacy business and/or has abandoned technology, but I don’t think of it as the epicenter of things that really matter anymore. It does kill me to see the number of companies, money, people involved in things that are utter BS, but for some reason modern capitalism seems to be rewarding poor business concepts.
re: Robots vs. immigrants for farm workers.
I’m all for robots. Heck, why not just require US citizenship and actually pay people enough to attract workers. What a concept, huh?
Truth is that most of those jobs will be automated soon enough, along with warehouse workers and radiologists.

a) UC Berkeley has some powerhouse departments because the state has millions of illegal aliens .or.

What a load of horse pucky. These self-hating people will find something to blame and if mothing is there they go right to the skin color. My experiences are totally different then the sad sack that wrote this article. America is a melting pot I was told growing up. People are here from every nation on the planet. They are here because of the “idea” of America. All are equal under the law. Our Constitution defends all. And like any country or society there are those that “make it” and those that don’t. Does the author think those “white homeless veterans” on the streets of San Francisco have “white privilege”? When people attack themselves or those that look like them with immutable traits it tells me they are mentally ill. If someone wants to succeed in America they must work hard and try to get along with others. But the “white liberals” of America in the form of their democrat party have decided to “balkanize ” the country and start the quest for power using “identity politics”. The author of this screed wants those in power, duly elected by fellow citizens, to give over their positions to others. And he means “white males”. Well it is Unamerican to even think like the author here. We can all get ahead and be a success without whining about some form of “power”: in the hands of someone else. That is why America is such a great country. A black nerdy kid from Detroit can become a renowned surgeon and a candidate for President of this country. A Russian emigre’ can create a Google. A middle Easterner can create a online marketing and sales giant employing millions. And others can create electric cars. It is just fine to investigate Benghazi, Fast and Furious, or the IRS’s supposed targeting of republicans but it seems to be an outrage when their people get on the hot seat. Wallace went on to say “When Republicans are, have oversight of a branch of Congress or a house of Congress and they’re investigating a Democratic president, they’re gonna make life difficult for them, and now the Democrats are in control of the House and have the control of these committees…That’s the way it works.” he said.

The lamestream media outlets have no such balanced reporting. This happens daily. FN’s two main anchors – Shep Smith and Chris Wallace – are liberal, along with countless liberals on their talking heads panels. The progressive press meticulously avoids putting its tender viewers through having experience and parse cross-narratives. Their only response is calling FN a ‘biased rightwing outlet’ without providing any basis for such charges.
